Spending The Holiday In Seattle!

I'm going to be visiting my brother in Seattle from the 18th to the 27th -- I just confirmed my airline reservations.

I'm going to do a search on this board for restaurant recommendations and such, but I was also wondering whether anyone knew of stuff I should just plain do in Seattle while I'm there for the holidays -- I know it's going to be cold, but I'd be particularly interested in anything that might involve _hiking_ and _mountains_. My brother's a big hiker/kayaker and will definitely have some ideas, but I'd love to hear what anyone else has to say.

Yea!!!

Hike the Ho rainforest. Walk the Dungeness Spit. Kayak from Bainbridge to one of the nearby islands.

Go to <www.rei.com> and check their calendar. Sometimes they have some cool stuff (like guided snow shoe trips) around Christmas.

Gluten-free Girl's chef-fiance's restaurant is in Seattle. He makes almost everything safe for people with celiac, so that she can eat there. It's called Impromptu Wine Bar and you can find posts about it on her blog: Open Original Shared Link

I can't vouch for it personally, but the way she talks about the food makes me want to go to Seattle just for dinner!

Check out: www.pacificcoastrestaurants.com for some good grub!

Some very high class restaurants in the NW. Stanford is great, as is the grill, and Newport Bay.

Good luck! Try and stay dry :P

do you subscribe to "living without"...they just had a huge list of gluten-free restaurants (both chain and local, separated by state). you might want to pick it up if you can!

Welcome!

If you were staying any longer, I'd say that we should do something on the 27th! :) Unless you've got the 22nd open... :P Anyway...

Wow -- this is great, everyone. I'm definitely going to Impromptu and the hiking ideas sound great -- although my brother seems to have his own mysterious plans about what kinds of outdoor activities we'll be doing (all I know is that he asked me to be sure I've packed my rainpants as well as my regular shell)! He's also been talking up some kind of Seattle underground tour...

Edit: Uh -- now that I'm looking at the weather, I realize that those rainpants may just be an everyday precaution! Wow -- looks like the Pacific NW is getting hit hard!

The Underground Tour is great - ask him to sign you up for the 'adults' tour; it's better. :P

Yeah, the weather has been... interesting. Snow the day after Thankgiving, massive rainstorms earlier this month, and the windstorm last night.... 700,000 customers without power, said one of the main power companies around here. (Seattle proper wasn't too bad, but we didn't have power for ~24 hours, and we're one of the ones back on early.) Lots of snow over the pass (got to learn how to put on tire cables today!), and trees down all over the place, including one in our back yard (so now we own a chainsaw!).

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, but I am curious what sort of hiking he's thinking of. I swear I'm going to need snowshoes. (If you have skipants for that sort of thing... Might be good.... :) )

Thank you. I already cut out dairy and eggs because I found out I was having a problem with them. To be honest I’m just getting worn out 😂

Hi Kitty, thank you for your e mail,  I have seen a nutritionist who seemed to be happy with the food diary I had been keeping and nothing was mentioned about extra vitamins, and I’m still using milk etc . The steroids seem to be working and everything is functioning as it should however,  the course of tablets finish at the end of February and I have an appointment with the consultant early April probably followed by another endoscopy, as far as I’m aware I have not been tested for vitamin B and will definitely discuss it with the doctor on my next visit.

It might be understandable to say "friends or family weeded me or you out of their lives". Some people are fearful of getting out of their comfortable known lives and having to make changes to accommodate another.   If they are too uncomfortable to walk a mile with me, I shake the dust off my feet and journey on.  They're just not ready to learn that lesson.  But you confidently keep going on your journey.  They can catch up later.

You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Someone recently recommended Superfoods for looking up recipes free of allergens or intolerances.  It's a web site but there's also an app.
