Hi Everyone

I am hoping some of my celiacs who have either traveled to Italy or are living in Italy can help me with this. My sister, who is 19 and her fiance went to Italy to visit his entire family (mom,dad..sisters) anyway they are staying there till Mid-Jan. So she said she would pick me up some gluten-free goodies while over there. So she called today and said when they went into the grocery store and asked for gluten-free food no one knew what they were talking about...

So my question is, do they call it something else than gluten free (I know it sounds dumb asking this)

Are there certain really good brands that are only available in Italy that may not be sold in the US which are worth trying.

Any input is appreciated...I honestly don't know what to tell her.

We have an Italian market near my place and they have Italian and other western European goods there. Here is what it says on my gluten-free crackers from Italy.

"Senza Glutine" means no gluten.

"Zero Grano" also loosely means no gluten, maybe "no wheat" would be a more direct translation.

They have the same symbol that we have in Canada; the grain of wheat with a line through it in a circle. Their celiac association is "Marchio Dell'associazione Italiana Celiachia." By the way these are the best gluten-free crackers I have ever had.

      Hi Scott and Knitty! Thanks for the answers! You are very kind! Let put it this way: 1.I am now confirmed seronegative celiac. My Last push gastroscopy concluded that there is no atrophy and everything is ok in that regard. 2. From diagnostics perspective so far i have done multiple intestinal TUS, Mr Enterography, Multiple wide spectrum blood tests, Normal gastroscopy, Push gastroscopy(duodenum and jejunum)., Multiple X rays,Swallow test barium....i mean the whole package... 3. from doctors perspective i am in touch with 2-3 gastroenterologist, immunology and rheumatology doctor and general physician...and with psychiatric doctor. My problem is that i am still feeling like "s$#&" EVERY DAY even now when i am on GFD and i am still losing weight with very little energy through day. When i lay down, i do not feel pain or discomfort but during the day i feel bloated, intermitten pain in abdomen(usually upper QD and around belly), discomfort throught whole abdomen and other parts of body and with very little energy. I am trying my  best to be 100 % GFD but i am on very light mediterian food diet. I am currently on gfd  13 months (with small mistakes) Currently i am on ppi 20mg in the morning, now drinking ensure plus because of muscle and weight loss. My diagnose procedure is now lasting almost 3 years and since then i have lost 13-15kg. Please but please i am currently losing my mind...is there anybody who is going through this kind of hell like me? What more can i do? Thanks in advance, Kind regards, Matt

      I appreciate the input and that would make sense to irritation/mouth sores. I'm more asking directly to the taste of the food being too salty as opposed to being irritated by salt.

      I got her results in the app but waiting for call from her doctor. Not sure what it means but maybe not celiac since villi are normal??  FINAL DIAGNOSIS: Duodenal biopsy (#1): DUODENAL MUCOSA WITH NO SIGNIFICANT ABNORMALITY. PENDING IMMUNOSTAIN FOR HELICOBACTER ORGANSIMS (TO BE REORTED IN AN ADDENDUM). Gastric body biopsy (#4): GASTRIC OXYNTIC MUCOSA WITH NO SIGNIFICANT ABNORMALITY.       I doubt very much that it contains any gluten. It works by producing an artificial blood clot, mixing 2 or more proteins found in the natural blood clotting cascade. These are refined from human blood donations. It comes in 2 vials that are mixed immediately before use and clot quickly.
