I emailed them to find out if they had gluten-free info. This was the response:

Dear Jennifer:

Thank you for your email and interest in KnowFat!

OMG- I just want to dope slap them! At least they could admit they don't quite know what gluten is (sorry- I'm cranky today :P )

Yes- corn and potato are grains but the ONLY grains that contain gluten are wheat, rye, barley and oats (only because they are cross-contaminated).

So if the potatoes don't have wheat then they ARE gluten-free unless they are fried in the same frier as other gluten-containing items

Well, I replied to her and told her that corn was not a gluten-free concern, unless I was allergic to that separately.

I don't believe that their fries are actually fried, I think they are fast baked or something, but I could be wrong. I asked her again, I'm curious about the response on that one too.

Why wouldn't they have someone competent answering questions like that! Makes me nervous to even believe her!

It just so happens that I know the owners of this company. Old high school friend. It's a great restaurant idea, and I've been meaning to mention to them how they should include Celiac-friendly items. I'm gonna email now and tell about the ridiculous information they're disseminating.

Please keep us posted on what you find out about Know Fat. I live near a Know Fat and I would love to be able to take my daughter there since there aren't really any other places around here that have gluten-free food. It would be SO nice to have a place where I could stop and pick up something for her once in a while.

Woah - what kind of answer is that?! It makes me sortof annoyed. I wouldn't listen to anything that woman says... Maybe try emailing someone else who may have a better understanding of what's going on!

Would love to hear what happens... I'm always on the lookout for good fries that I can eat.

Thanks...

Don't get the fries!!!!

(Sorry this is an old thread, I am catching up)

There is a KnowFat very close to our place. I went there very hopeful I could eat fries. I know they are not fried with other items. Heck they are not even technically fried, but I do remember them being SO good.

I asked the very nice worker to please get the ingredients of the fries for me so I could see if they were safe or not. He didn't have a list so after some urging, he schlepped the box to the counter for me to read myself.

Their fries have wheat in them!

The corn thing is danged annoying. The Dr. who diagnosed my daughter told me ALL grains have gluten in them. Just varying amounts. Said even corn and rice contained gluten and I needed worry about them. Even said I should just "let her be a kid" every once in a while and let her eat what she wanted. I had to reel in my hand for wanting to slap him him around a bit. She doesn't actually have celiac. Hers is an allergy to both wheat and gluten. But she still haven' have "a little bit" of the allergen. It just doesn't work that way. I am remembering how sick she got last Sunday after eating some chicken salad at a fast food place. Gah! I wasn't with her. My husband got it for her. When he sees something like that, he just sees chicken. Doesn't bother to think of what it might be processed with.

On the one hand I do want to give them credit for knowing that corn contains gluten. It does. Just not the same kind of gluten as wheat, barley and other other stuff that cause trouble for celiacs or those with a gluten allergy. Almost makes me wish they'd call it something else to avoid confusion.

Had a very interesting conversation with the waitress at one of our favorite restaurants today. Turns out she has a severe allergy to cilantro and her son also has food allergies. She understands! We have never gotten sick from their food there. They cook almost everything from scratch and they are good to check the ingredients on any of the frozen or prepared items they serve. Too bad all restaurants can't be this good!

I would suggest you ask your doctor to order a "total IGA" test to check for IGA deficiency.

I did a gluten challenge. I ate bread yesterday. I immediately felt horrid. Depressed, fearful, angry.  I also had the weirdest night terrors and "day terrors" (delusions). They were do awful, that I am still terrified. How do gluten impact your dreams?

Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.
