Looking For Good Doctor In Akron/cleveland Area

Hi all, I'm new here and have family with Celiac (Mom, Grandma) and we have come to the conclusion that I am suffering the way they did before they went gluten free eight years ago. They all have been diagnosed with Celiac and have Thyroid problems amoung many others due to such late diagnosis in thier lives. I have had all kinds of allergy tests done etc, but have never been officially tested, but what I know to be certain is that I react horribly when I eat Gluten!

I would like to go in for "officially testing" and wanted to know if anyone has a great doc in the Akron/Cleveland, Ohio area. I saw earlier posts about this but they were very old, and also printed out the names listed on the site under Ohio. Yet I'm wondering whom you feel are the best and if certain doctors are best for testing vs. continued care post diagnosis?

Thanks,

Christy

Christy,

Welcome aboard!

I don't know about a "great" doctor (Is there really such a thing?) but, I have been going to Dr. Michelle Inkster at the Cleveland Clinic - Independence office. She is a gastro specialist who diagnosed me via endoscopy & blood work and, has been receptive to my questions/concerns post-diagnosis during the past two-years. With that being said I think most Celiac people will tell you that you just have to listen to what your body is telling you. If you feel good then run with it. If you feel lousy then you need to make some changes until you find a happy medium.

Best of luck!

Cleveland Bob ;)

The short answer is if it hurts, don't do it. Yogurt may help sooth your gut and repopulate it with benificial bacteria.  I prefer whole milk yogurt because it is not processed and the no fat yogurt is processed dehydrated milk powder with guar gums and water added to make it mouth feel like fat.  Especially in early healing there may be other foods you cannot tolerate for a while.

I guess I would encourage you to abstain from the wine for a while. If you know something causes you pain then it is a good idea not to do it if you don't have to.

Encouraging to hear others have had this pain and thanks for the responses   yes I was checked, no H pylori.

We have had numbers of others on this forum report pain in that same area. Have you been checked for an H. Pylori infection? This is something very common in the celiac population.

Hi! Yes I have, endoscopy didn’t show anything other than celiacs. I’ve been wondering if it’s possibly that my intestines are so damaged that the wine is irritating because they have not fully healed. Very odd, I felt better for a few weeks and then all the sudden started noticing the pain again after the weekends when I drink wine (don’t drink during the week). I’ve also heard that dull left side pain isn’t a common symptom with celiacs so my diagnosis was surprising to doctor as well though the pain did initially subside with gluten-free diet.
