Corn Intolerance/allergy People Might Even Be More Limited Than Before!

I read this article on yahoo Open Original Shared Link

The part that bothered me was the last article The March of Dimes is planning to petition the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to increase requirements that food be enriched with folic acid, which lowers the risk for spina bifida and certain other birth defects

Vitamins are usually added with corn. I think the reasoning is good but geez how limiting does corn allergy have to be?!

Autumn--you are correct. If people think it is rough going gluten free, they should try eliminating the things that contain corn, soy, and rice also. Gluten free was easy for me, especially after needing to go soy and corn free and very limited on rice. It's never easy, is it?

It has been difficult. Gluten free seemed like such a challenge its a whole other situation with other intolerances. Im alot healthier though :) My diet generally doesnt allow junk food .

Wow! Corn is already hard to avoid and I think as hard if not harder than gluten. Last year I was in charge of the food for school parties for the kids with allergies. My daughter is allergic to 7 things (not corn), one girl had a severe peanut allergy and a boy had a corn allergy. I had the worst time coming up with anything for him to eat aside from plain chocolate that was dairy and soy free. Most of the foods that were safe for the other girls to eat contained corn. Ack!

Is it worth it to remove gluten before they potentially do an endoscopy & biopsy? I thought I read it’s best to be eating gluten for 3 months prior to it. So hoping they have a cancellation and call us in sooner.

Thank you for the warning. I get blood tests twice a year to check where I stand with the vitamins I regularly take, so I appreciate the extra reminder. I know some vitamins don’t build up but now I will watch the B6 for sure.

I think you would do well to take a high potency B-complex such that you get more balanced dosage across the spectrum of B vitamins. They work in concert.

Around 5 years ago I visited Tokyo, and luckily had my sister in law with me who is from there, otherwise it would have been more difficult. The bottom line is that there are tons of naturally gluten-free food options there, but you need to be able to communicate your needs to restaurant staff. Here is a gluten-free restaurant card for American visitors in Tokyo. It includes a request for a gluten-free meal and mentions common gluten-containing ingredients to avoid, like soy sauce and miso. English: Thank you. Japanese:   You can also download the Google Translate app, and besides being able to help you speak with people there about this, it has a camera app that translates Japanese text to English in your camera, so you can use it when shopping in a supermarket.
