Liz- I havent tried that yet, I'll have to check and see if its corn free. I know coconuts dont bother me since I use coconut oil in cooking. Thanks for the suggestion :) I havent found a protein powder that doesnt have corn in it though. I swear its in everything.

Cathy- I know about fruit, Its one of my favorite foods there are not too much I dont like. Im sorry he hurt his back, I hope it heals for him soon. Did he find out what was wrong with his problems in the er?

Mayflowers- Saturday sounds good for a weigh in for me actually any day of the week is fine although monday would work better for me due to dh hogging the computer less. I havent tried elderberry before but I know it would cause problems with my mold allergies since I cant eat berries. But thanks for the suggestion. I am on a ton of vitamins. I havent noticed a difference yet except my hair is filling in again YEAH! I lost probably 1/3 of it due to falling out and breaking off before being gluten free.

Shannon- I emailed you regarding the info since Im not sure if I can post it or not. If anyone else is interested pm me :)

Shirley- Unfortunately tomatoes I cant eat or potatoes. Dh and my daughter love them. I have breathing problems with tomatoes due to my mold allergy and potatoes cause me migraines and nausea. I think it might be due to my corn allergy and the washes they use on them.

About me not so good- Im now having a problem with peaches and nectarines. I thought it was just the water but I dont think it is. Im looking into it. Its either washes they use on it, fructose allergy, or leaky gut maybe. I found out others on my corn allergy forum I post on also have the same problem. I swear I wish they made a jetson food pill somedays just so I could feel good everyday.

Food Today-

Breakfast- eggs and a bit of chebe bread (bad me since I havent been doing well with grains)

Lunch- Turkey lettuce rolls ( my standard anymore) and cauliflower

Dinner- Chicken broccoli and cooked cabbage.

Snack - some nuts

Im thinking of avoiding fruit till I feel better hopefully in a few days. Its just making me so sick anymore. I had the dry heaves this morning from being so nauseated. Im not looking for pity just so frustrated on not knowing what to eat where I will still feel good. I swear that is what keeps me on this regimen since most people would with breathing problems and dry heaving LOL! I'll try and get on tomorrow. Dh is a huge computer hog on the weekends. I did pretty good on the water today.

Crud! my 3 year old is up. Have a great weekend everyone :D

Autumn - I just checked my rice protein powder. It says corn free right on the label, as well as gluten, soy and dairy. It's Nutribiotic vegan rice protein powder. I got it at the health food store.

Shirley - sounds like you're catching up with me for busy-ness! How nice that you quilt! I made one once for my mom and it was such a big job I've never done it again.

Shannon - Monday sounds like a good day for a weigh-in. It will inspire me to be good over the weekend. That's my hardest time to be "good" - when we're all home and the kids want some yummy homemade treats.

Mayflowers - interesting about the Elderberry - I think I've heard that before and had forgotten.

Cathy - it looks like you had a good day eating wise, especially when you weren't trying to "diet".

I had another busy day at my convention, so not much chance to overeat. I'm SO glad I can sleep in tomorrow!

B - Handful of almonds on my way out the door

L - about 3 oz of smoked turkey on lettuce and celery salad with about 1 Tbs. dressing and 12 almond crackers

S - Chocolate coconut Lara Bar and about 10 almonds

D - about 1 C rice pasta with sauce and 4 meatballs, large brownie and 1/2 C vanilla rice dream

My two middle school kids are at a Valentine's Banquet at school, so I made the same menu items for us so I could send my son with the same food that everyone else is eating. Good thing it was something simple! That's why we had the brownies and fake ice cream. I'm not going to feel guilty about it - overall I didn't overeat today.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Well, I ended up with boiled spuds for dinner today, along with baked beans, so I didn't bother with meat for myself. Just did hubby a couple of ribs. The beans were likely enough protien.

Sheba and I slipped in a little ice cream for dessert ... shhhhhhhhh, Sheba's on a diet too

Did have my glass of wine this evening too, so I'm probably around 1300 callories for the day. Oh well, was trying to stay around 1200.

The old brain worked over time today, so maybe it burned a few extra.

It's really the pits when you are having trouble with so many foods. I was like that in the early years of the diet, but seem to be able to tollerate much more now. Mostly if it's something that's iffy I only get bloated now. Not so much vomiting and D anymore unless I get into gluten.

I used to have to stay away from dairy, citric acid, rice and poultry. But now can eat them all in moderation. Hopefully it will get better for you as well.

Strangely enough I had trouble with corn flour, and corn nibblets from the store, but could eat our own corn from the garden with no problem. Perhaps you are right and they spray something on it, but shouldn't it wash off ... or wouldn't it stay on the leaves if corn on the cob? It's a puzzle for sure, but I know how you feel. I still mostly eat our own corn, but don't worry too much about corn starch and such anymore.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Elderberries and mold? Autumn, you're the first person who ever said mold was in berries...You must be thinking of strawberries. They do get moldy but that's the only berry I've noticed that does that. The reading, I've done about mold said only to avoid peanuts, cheese, mushrooms, stuff that grows under the ground, not over it. How can berries, drenched in sunshine have mold? Berries are nature's cure for everything! BLueberries prevent UTI's as well as cranberries.

Well we could weigh on Saturday and report it on Monday for those of you who take off on Saturday. I didn't mean you had to come on line and report your weight on Saturday, sheesh!

I lost a pound this week. ( I'd like to up it to 2 pounds a week, working on that. )I've been losing a pound a week average. Total 9 pounds lost so far.

Last night I took my sons out to the restaurant and I ordered a big Mama's back yard punch drink" (my son drove) spare ribs, 1/2 slab (6) with corn, sweet potatoes, cole slaw and drunken apples...I gave the muffin to my son. I was so full! Now THAT's a dinner! And to wake up and be a pound lighter is amazing. And ladies...No $80 a month for supplements....All real food. Anything I want to eat....

Guest AutumnE

Liz- That sounds like a good dinner, its fine to be flexible with your foods since you were well within your calorie limits. With that protein powder is xantham gum as an ingredient? If so technically they call it corn free because the protein is removed but I still react to it due to it being grown from corn.

Shirley- Its a common wash for all veggies, fruits, pork and poultry. Its the reason why I buy kosher poultry to eat. It might be more highly processed corn products for you or the pesticides used. My main reaction is coughing and unfortunately coughing till the point of vomiting alot of times. I hope my allergy gets less, I guess I shouldnt call it an intolerance since I know Im allergic too due to rast and bloodwork testing. I wash all my fruits and veggies with hot water and baking soda and scrub them then let them soak for 5 to 10 minutes before peeling the skin.

Mayflowers- That sounds like a tasty dinner! I havent had ribs in a long time. Unfortunately all berries do and my body lets me know it when I get brave and imagine I dont have a problem with them. I cough severely with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries. I cant imagine elderberriesare any different. Trust me anyone can be allergic to anything. I am afraid to try new stuff since I was on the verge of an asthma attack last night due to organic fruit. Im wondering if its the corn wash or if Im starting to have problems with fructose itself. Congratulations on the weight loss!

I haven't weighed yet today. I'm going to have a late shower, will weigh then.

My day usually starts at 6:30 up, cup of coffee, a nice walk with hubby and Sheba, breakfast and then shower.

However I knew I was going to paint Santa's sleigh all morning downstairs, so decided to have my shower after lunch. I'm just having my lunch time tea, by then the dishwasher will be finished and it will be safe to shower.

So far today ... B - bowl of rice cereal and skim milk

L - a few corn chips with melted cheese and banana and 11 M&Ms :P

nothing exciting like those ribs

Mayflowers, congratulations on the weight loss! You are doing super!

Autumn, have you tried acupuncture (sp) for your allergies? Several years ago I was going to Calgary to have NAET treatments.

It's a combination of acupuncture and heat. It made a huge difference in my food allergies. It also changed my metal allergy. I used to get terrible rashes when I wore a watch or necklace that wasn't good gold. Now I can wear almost anything. Although my watch will still bother me a bit if it's really hot in the summer and I'm sweating.

It might be worth a try.

Mayflowers Contributor

Thanks for the congrats girls! If anyone is interested, it's the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. You can get the book from amazon .com or any Barnes and Noble in the US. I'm never hungry like the other plans I've tried...

Autumn: You poor girl! I had a blood test to test for general allergens and I tested positive for grass, tree pollen (crazy itchy eyes in the spring) and ragweed. I tested severely allergic to ragweed. It's supposed to be the worst in the Autumn, my favorite season, with sneezing, watery eyes runny nose. I don't have any allergic symptoms in Autumn, why? I eat raw locally grown honey for years. It does the same thing as allergy shots but it's natural and very healthy for me. I also eat royal jelly by Bee Alive.

I was tested negative for mold, animal dander (as you can see by my cat, Storm) and dust mites. Your list is so long.. :( I have so many food intolerances that I'd starve if I gave up all of them. I just have to go with the lesser of the evils. Gluten is the worst. I'm still working on the dairy and soy. I'm too old (50) to go cold turkey now. I consider it a big win to be off gluten :D

Viola: Doesn't eating rice cereal for breakfast make you hungry all the time? I can't eat grains for breakfast I'll be hungry all day and pick, pick, pick. It's horrible. I think I'm hyopglycemic and that's why. My blood sugar always tested normal though...weird. And I'm an "A" blood type if you go by the Blood type diet. I should be a vegetarian. I still eat meat. I'm trying to get off of it. I was vegetarian for 5 years and I went back to meat for love of meatballs. Now I can't get off of meat again. I don't usually like pork. I do like ribs....

I'm AB blood type I'm not vegitarian, I don't know what my blood type would dictate though.

It actually does, but I get away with it at breakfast time because I'm usually not around any food in the morning after breakfast. I'm either downstairs painting Signs or Christmas ornaments, or in the spring through fall, out in the garden, training dogs , or out on the golf course. So not tempted to eat or pick. I actually added 1/4 cup of dried cranberries to my rice cereal this morning. Added callories of course :( but tasty.

Yesterday my diet went to Hell as we were gone most of the day. But I did manage to loose another pound last week.

Yesterday I had;

Breakfast Rice cereal in skim milk

Lunch was Chicken fried Rice and Sweet & sour pork at Amanda's restaurant :P I ate half then.

Dinner was the remainder of my Chinese lunch.

And then I splurged and had a Rolo Ice cream bar :o Yummy :P And worth having to write it down today

I by passed my wine last night though, so that was good.

Today so far;

B ... Rice cereal with skim milk and 1/4 cup dried cranberries

L ... Bowl of Thai mushroom soup. few breadsticks (Glutino) and a orange.

Haven't thought about dinner yet today. Will have to come up with something as hubby is on a diet as well. Makes it easier

The good thing is we got our monthly grocery shopping done yesterday, so have lots of fresh veggies and fruit at home. So, a nice salad will be on the table for sure!

Hope you all had a great weekend! I did pretty well, but I did have a few treats. My kids are a bad influence on me! I have lost 1 whole pound though, so it couldn't have been that bad.

Hubby and I had a gift card for a nice seafood restaurant and we went last night to avoid the Valentine rush. The waitress volunteered to get the manager when I started to explain my restrictions. He came out and was very knowledgable and made a recommendation that was delicious - grilled salmon and roasted vegetables. I somehow didn't get the potatoes that were supposed to come with it, but it was actually better, since that left out a lot of calories.

Today I haven't done quite so well :( . I hope you don't all kick me out of the group. I've decided to be brutally honest and not hide anything, gulp.

B - two bites of deli turkey while helping pack lunches and a 208 calorie protein bar

L - about 1/4 C vanilla rice dream with about 12 junior mints, 7 rice crackers with some goat cheese, 1 slice deli turkey

S - carrot sticks (to soothe guilt feelings for rice dream and junior mints)

D - homemade chicken noodle soup with Tinkyada pasta, lots of vegies in the soup, 10 more junior mints

S - waiting on Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread made into rolls. Will eat 2 or 3 small ones (we divide the dough into 24 muffin tins so we don't overdo the portion sizes.

Maybe this is the wrong site, but need help, possibly from Lorka150, as to how my wife can gain weight. She lost about 30 lbs in about 2 to 3 months despite care from a GI and others. Believe her condition is turning around (small intestine) and her weight may be stabalizing at about 106 lbs (dressed) at about 5'4", 62 yrs.

Any help appreciated.

Hello everyone! Wow I have been busy, sorry I have been gone for a few days. It has been busy busy busy! Today I went shopping with my mom and my daughter to 4 stores. Went to our butcher and bought a cow and a pig! Butchered of course and wrapped ;) My freezer is sooo full! I found out my mom's butcher doesnt use any sprays at all on their meats. So today I picked up 4 dozen brown eggs, an entire cow and a pig- well minus the gross stuff! We will be set with meat for a long time. Only $1.80 a pound so its a great price for organic meat. I did have bad news today. My little nephew has another food allergy we found today, peanuts. He became dizzy fell down and they called 911. Thankfully with benedryl he was fine but man it was scary.

Shirley- I havent tried accupuncture or NAET. I will have to look into those. I do have a level 2 rast allergy with trees and leaves so I am not outside when our lawn or one of our neighbor's lawn is being mowed. You sound like me, I love staying busy. Its one of my favorite parts of motherhood. I would get so bored before we had my daughter and now it seems I enjoy every day no matter what.

Mayflowers- I do eat local honey and have been for a few months. So far, Im just getting use to it. I know it may be a lifetime thing so Im taking it as it comes. I try hard to avoid problem foods but sometimes no matter what I do I still eat something that bothers me. If I dont avoid them I stay bloated, brain fog, joint aches and of course asthma attacks and throwing up. Its not worth it to me to eat those foods. I like annalise roberts also, I have one of her dessert books. I also like another one, I cant remember her name Connie saurons I believe. I bought from my local health food store. Tasty and very creative recipes.

Liz- Please dont feel bad about splurging here and there. Its very very difficult to stay on a diet for a long period of time. Which is why Im here obese still. I may do pretty good now but its due to me not being able to unless I want to be sick. Congratulations on the pound! You obviously must be doing it right to lose weight :D Stay honest, everyone here cheats here and there. This is for you so you can look back. One thing that I use to do was journal. I would write my feelings down with what I ate, if I was bored, angry, sad, stressed. It helped me to try to notice it and look for alternatives to have at those times. Seafood dinner sounds lovely, Im glad you had a good time :)

Bob- Im so sorry your wife is struggling. Most of us on this thread are trying to lose it but I will pm lorka150 for you and see if she can help you. Feel free to post and ask questions I have many food intolerances and allergies as others here do also so we might be able to help :)

Guest ShannonL

Hey all! Seems we are all kinda slow getting started this week! LOL We are trying to decide if we are going to move or not. So I have been REALLY stressed. Today I baked 24 heart shaped cookies for my 4yo valentines party. I hope they enjoy them! I am whipped. Gotta head off to give my 13mo a breathing treatment...then off to beddy bye for me.

Guess what? I ate my first GOOD gluten free sandwhich tonight! YEAH. I tried the bread by Lorka (on baking post) AWESOME. I cant wait for lunch tomarrow......

Today I ate:

B- OOPS I forgot to eat. I was so busy. I did drink a NOS energy drink (sugar free)

L-Chicken Enchilada soup and tortilla chips

S-I ate a GLUTEN containing cookie. Better than before...I would have eaten 3! I am trying. Boy my tummy hurts now. Dont plan to do that anytime soon! It is hard to get used to this lifestyle. I sure hope I dont bother you guys when I report my failures.

D-skipped

S-ham sandwich with honey mustard YUMMY!

Not the best day. Maybe I am gaining from not eating enough? Surely not balanced. No vegetables and fruit today. At least I am seeing it. It is all a learning process (for all of us).

Hope all of you are well. See ya tomarrow!

Guest AutumnE

Well todays diet will probably look horrid but here goes.....

Breakfast- 2 lara bars a little chicken

Snack- A few nuts- didnt do well had asthma problems again

Dinner (just now at 10:30 at night) 4 lettuce wraps with chicken and a bunch of broccoli.

Calories are shoddy today, water I barely got in 24 ozs.

I was way too busy today and gone the entire day. My daughter had foods but her's is easier than mine being only gluten free. Im off to bed, Im exhausted. I definitely got in a workout lifting out the meat today to load into my mom's trail blazer as she got a cow too and I took care of it since she was watching my 3 year old. I hope you all have a great day tomorrow :)

Weight loss for last week- 2 pounds lost so Im a happy camper! :)

Guest AutumnE

Shannon- I know how you feel as my post was basically the same way with being busy. Im sorry your not feeling well. Try red bull, it helps me when I have been glutened. Sometimes you almost have to get the tester out of our systems. I went through a touch of rebelious stage too. It didnt take long and I never purposely was glutened again. You wil get there. We have our house up for sale right now. The market is tough in michigan. But we will still be in the same state about 1 1/2 hours away. But its still hard knowing my family wont be near us if we need them. Good luck with your decision.

Viola 1 Rookie

I suppose everyone is in bed by now  I just got home from a meeting in Castlegar. Actually made it home before 10:00 :o now that's bonus

Let's see ... today

B- rice cereal with skim milk

L- peanut butter and banana sandwich ... kinnikinnic bread

D - skipped as I was on the road, but did snack on a piece of cheese and a gluten-free breakfast bar

S- tonight, bowl of pop corn.

Which probably adds up to not enough callories today, but hard to eat on the go.

Hopefully catch you all tomorrow

lonewolf Collaborator

Hi all. I'm late getting on too.

Shirley - now I can place where you are - I had friends in college who were from Castlegar! You must live easy driving distance from there?

I'm on a no will-power roll here. I do well for part of the day and then it all falls apart.

B - one roll from Pamela's mix with butter, handful of almonds, about 1/2 C applesauce

L - two pieces rice toast, about 1-1/2 oz goat cheese, 2 bites applesauce

S - Envirokidz cereal bar, carrot sticks

D - Taco salad made with ground turkey, a few shreds of goat cheese, salsa and, of course, lettuce; about 1/2 C vegetarian refried beans, 2 handfuls unsalted, organic corn chips

S - 2 heart shaped Valentine cookies - my girls and I made about 5 dozen for school parties tomorrow.

Have a happy Valentine's Day!

Mayflowers Contributor

Happy Valentine's Day! This morning I got on the scale and my weight is UP a few pounds!!! :o I knew it! Too many apple streusle muffines!! I still have 4 days till "official weigh in" to lose it. Maybe it's just water....AAHHHHH! If my weight goes up, I'm going to have to sell that cook book!

Today I just had scrambled eggs and sausage... so far.. I'm going for a salad now, maybe some tuna.

Don't eat too much chocolate everyone!

lonewolf Collaborator

I've been pretty good today so far, but I'm a little distressed. My hubby came home at lunch and left a bouquet of roses :D and a TEN POUND BAR OF DARK CHOCOLATE  on the table for me to find after work. My 13 year old did the math and figured out that it has over 25,000 calories and will make "someone" gain over 7 pounds. I consider this sabatoge!

Guest ShannonL

Hey all! I cant sleep, so I think I will post my daily intake. I am soooo proud of me today. I went to my dd school and didnt eat 1 bite of the goodies!! then tonight after dinner my dh wanted some ice cream and I didnt have any. WOW 2 for 2! YEAH!!!

B-ham sandwich

L-hamburger patty with american cheese

S-rice cereal mix (unhealthy)

D-cajun crawfish stuffed chicken and a salad (what can I say...I live in the south)LOL

S-Some M and M's

Still feel like I am gaining! I will see tomarrow. My menstrual cycle is out of wack right now too. Maybe this is it. I am off BCP's for the 1st time in 15 years (other than pregnancies). I think I may be bloated.

Viola 1 Rookie

Hello, Happy Valentines Day, I'm a little late on that I know.

It's been another busy day today, this time in Nelson. Yes, Liz, we live 45 minutes driving time to either Castlegar or Nelson depending on which way we turn at the junction. It's great to have two towns handy to shop in.

Today I blew my diet again ... we took a friend out to lunch at Amanda's. Megan (our 87 year old friend) and I had the battered, deep fried fish and chips ... they are gluten free and to die for!! Megan isn't Celiac, but she likes the gluten free version better than the gluten one. And my guess is they are chock full of callories :( But worth every bite

So ... it went like this;

B - gluten free cereal and skim milk

L- Yummy fish and chips

S- none

D- a small pork chop, scalped potatoes, peas and salad

S - 10 M&Ms and a glass of wine.

Anyway, we walked all over Nelson trying to get businesses to donate a prize for our golf tournament coming up in May. (Hubby and I are both on the board of Directors of our community golf course ... a volunteer position of course) this golf course runs on a shoe string.

Anyway, we are soooo pleased! We had an appointment with our financial advisor and I wanted Hubby to ask him to sponsor a couple of prizes. Well hubby told me that an investor wouldn't have anything like that.

Well, guess what! :o We got four small prizes from him ... plus, his company is sponsoring a hole in one prize with a Galloway Driver ( golf speak for "oh my God, I want one of those!!!) Plus, everyone that plays that hole in the tournament will be able to put their names in for a draw for a trip to the British Open :o:lol: And Hubby didn't think they would have anything to offer :rolleyes:

Anyway, we did great, got another dozen prizes and I think the local Ford dealership is going to sponsor a $5,000 hole in one on number nine green.

Can you imagine, this little (but beautiful and challenging) nine hole course, out in the boonies having two huge prizes for a hole in one! :o:P It's un heard of!

Can you tell I'm pumped ?

Shannon, Autumn and Mayflowers, we have to all get together and go and help Liz with that chocolate bar!!! Heavens!! We just can't leave the poor woman drowning in all that chocolate! :P

lonewolf Collaborator

Shannon - Good for you to be so disciplined! You should be proud of yourself. Yes, with your menu I can tell you're from the south!

Mayflowers - don't even get on the scale until weigh-in day. I'm sure you'll be back down.

Viola - I'd go for fish and chips too! I've had them once in the past 11 years and they were yucky :( . You're welcome to come share my chocolate. Hubby got out HALF of it (about 12" x 12") and took a hammer to it to break it up. The package says that there are 113 servings - more than enough to share with all of you for a long time. The kids were all happy to have it, but boy is it rich. We laughed because it has 2 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein per serving - practically a health food when you add in all those anti-oxidants too!

I'm not even going to list my food today. I started out well, but ate a few hershey's kisses, a handful of candy hearts, a few bites of chocolate and a large piece of cake, along with all my healthy food. I'll be more motivated tomorrow!

Yup, chocolate has come a long way ... it's now a health food. Isn't it wonderful? Melt it and dip strawberries in it and you have a chocolate fruit salad :P

jerseyangel Proficient

Chocolate fruit salad--Shirley, I like how you think!

I've been reading all along, and I'd love to join in, if I may :)

My situation: Since my surgery on Jan 3, I've lost 10 lbs! I didn't have much of an appetite for the first couple of weeks after, but have been eating normally now for a month. The weight has stayed off, and I'm happy!

I'd like to lose a few more, as well as tighten up all over. I plan to start using my treadmill, and as soon as I can, get back to Pilates.

My diet is limited because I have several food intolerances in addition to Celiac.

Today:

B--2 slices of gluten-free toast with fruit spread, bacon (done in microwave on paper towels to absorb grease)

L--Large salad w/olive oil and vinegar, hamburger (no bun)

S--Chocolate pudding made with almond milk, a little Cool Whip on top

D--Beef stew, handful of chocolate chips

I love the idea of doing this with you all. I'm pretty motivated--this should be fun!

I believe I've seen them at Costco still in the shells (in the frozen seafood area), which might be a safe way to go.

A dedicated rack is a great idea if everyone in the house understands and supports the idea, and just to clarify, I didn't recommend just wiping the rack down, but washing it well in soap and hot water.

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back to me.  Sometimes the retailers don't have content info on products they sell and they have rewrapped them with no ingredients list. Guess I'll stick to prepackaged medalions with all the info.

I find that I sometimes have symptoms due to cross-contact with foods that *might* be contaminated in the processing. 100% gluten-free certification is something I look for in every processed food I consume.

I would not be comfortable with just wiping down the rack after a gluten-containing food was cooked on it. When I cook pizza in the oven, my gluten-free pizza goes on the top rack - nothing else is ever placed directly on that top rack, gluten or not. Contact with minute traces of gluten cause me symptoms within a few hours. If I heat a gluten-free roll in my toaster oven, I place it on a small bit of foil so that it does not directly contact the rack that *might* have traces of gluten on it.
