Hey everyone,

I was watching Six Degrees last night and all of the sudden one of the characters asks a reporter if he would like a cookie and he responded with "I'm allergic to gluten" and her response was "who isn't these days". I was like so shocked it was on there. It definititely seems like its being recognized more on tv.

I was like so shocked it was on there. It definititely seems like its being recognized more on tv.

Recognision is good, but I thought that was a snotty comment. Many people that I know, are going gluten free because it's the "New Fad Diet".

The up side of that is that the more people go gluten free, either by necessity or by choice, the food industry will hear.

But if you were just following the diet for the heck of it why would you say I'm allergic to it? I do see your point though, I didn't think of that.

Oh, not doubting the wheat allergy. But the comment about "who isn't these days." bristled my back a bit.

Same here, Momma Goose. I don't watch Six Degrees, it just happened to be on, I happened to hear it and so it was a totally random snotty remark!

So funny - it totally didnt strike me that way. I am from NY and i feel like everywhere i go these days, when i tell people i have celiac (or an allergy to gluten, as i do say sometimes when i'm around people who probably dont know what celiac disease is), they always say things like that - it seems like everyone knows someone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance these days. I assumed that was how it was intended - and that someone involved in the show has celiac and threw it in.

i got 3 phone calls after that episode to tell me i needed to watch it, but no one would tell me why - they said "there is one line that made me think of you"

It didn't strike me rude either... I was SO excited to see it mentioned! it seems that Gluten is being mentioned a LOT on TV lately... it was also in Medium (Allison has to order a rice crust pizza for her daughters b-day party because "one of the girls can't eat gluten") and it was also mentioned on Scrubs... JD talks about when meeting someoene new, girls LOVE to have things in common, and he says "I'm allergic to Gluten... OH me Too!"...

I personally think all the Gluten mentions are AWESOME!! :D

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

      Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

      Thankyou so much for your words.Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
