I did the saliva test and it looks like little strings come down in the water offof the spit almost immediately. I guess that is a positive result for candida. How reliable is this test, and are there other tests to know for sure. What should i do. I cant really afford to buy a bunch of stuff to cure it. I dont know what to do.

I don't know much about the test.

You need to avoid all sugar, including fruit juice. Eat fruit only sparingly.

Take probiotics to get some good bacteria into your gut. You can include yogurt and kifir, but don't rely on them entirely to do the job. If you do eat them, buy the PLAIN varieties, the others are loaded with sugar. If you don't like the plain taste, you can add your own flavoring -- vanilla, stevia for sweetener, lemon juice, etc.

Use coconut oil, garlic, and onions, they kill the yeast.

My doctor has me avoiding yeast as well, though I don't think everyone with candida has to. If you have it really bad, you can get a prescription of Nystatin to help. I don't have candida, but I'm on a lot of long-term antibiotics, so we're trying to keep it that way.

I've heard mixed things about that particular test, but don't really know how reliable it is to tell you the truth.

The biggest thing you can do naturally is cut out or drastically down on the sugars. Cut out all simple sugars for sure. Remember that all starches turn to sugar so limit the good carbs too. I'm being very strict and am eating basically just meat and veggies at the moment. My doctor also suggested avoiding fermented foods, moldy foods, etc.

You can use coconut oil for cooking, etc. Coconut oil is a natural antifungal.

Garlic is also a natural antifungal.

what is the saliva test. I know nothing about candida, but wouild love to hear about this saliva test.

I've heard that it can change from day to day, so I don't know how accurate it really is.

ETA: By-the-way, I don't use threelac and have heard conflicting things about that too, but this was a nice easy explanation of the spit test. :)

I, too, think I'm having a problem with candida; for those of you who have cut down/out sugars, for how long do you do this? I can't imagine just eating meat and veggies for too long!

I'm not sure how long, but I have some other issues which encourage candida, so I'll be on this for several months. A couple of years ago I only did it for 3 months and felt great during that time, but problems came back as soon as I went off of it.

I ocassionally have a half piece of fruit with a meal, but not often and only half. :( ETA: and I usually make it low sugar fruit like an apple.

Right now it's looking like it will be long term for me because I'll be on these antibiotics for at least a year or two.

When I previously went on the anti-candida diet I was very strict with no cheating for six months. After that, I continued the garlic supplements, coconut oil, and probiotics. I'd allow myself the occasional treat. Once you're candida isn't so bad, you won't crave sweets as much, so use that to your advantage. Don't get into a daily candy/soda habit again.

I'd also try to figure out WHY you have candida. If you don't fix the underlying problem, then it will come right back.

Im thinking i mite have candida too. I did the no sugar candida diet for 3 days but on day 3 I felt so awful I had to quit.

Yes, unfortunately that can happen. It may be just that you were killing off the candida too quickly...when they die they leave myotoxins which can make you feel pretty bad in large numbers.

This is a sign that you very well could have a problem with it. I'd just eat a piece of fruit if you feel bad to slow down the die-off. But keep it in moderation as it can be just as bad as sugar for yeast. The yeast get mad/hungry/die when you don't get enough sugar to feed them!

Hi - candida is thrush right? I have oral thrush now I guess as a side effect of the inhaled asthma steriods I am taking. It is not really bad, just isolated to one side of my tongue (disgusting looking white stuff), but my mouth does feel a bit sensitive...

IF it is there, can I assume it is also a systemic problem? Definitely don't want more drugs... haven't seen my dr about this yet.....

Natural treatment is cut out all sugars? Am already gluten and rice free.... my diet is based around fruits, vegetables, nuts, and some red meat and sea fish (shellfish and chicken are also out!). i use milk in my coffee only.... Try not to eat processed foods... so frustrating.

Yes, thrush is considered candida. I don't know if I have that but I have a white spot on my tongue I've had for years...every doctor that sees it gets excited, but the prescription anti-fungals didn't make it go away...I only took them for 3 months though, so may not have been long enough.

Yes the natural treatment is to starve the little fungi/yeast by taking away what they eat...sugars and anything that turns to sugar. You're diet sounds pretty good, you may have to cut down on some of the fruit...maybe only half at a time and keep it to lower sugar fruit.

      Take it easy! I was just prompting you for some clarification.  In the distillation process, the liquid is boiled and the vapor descends up a tube and condenses into another container as it cools. What people are saying is that the gluten molecules are too large and heavy to travel up with the vapor and so get left behind in the original liquid solution. Therefore, the condensate should be free of gluten, no matter if there was gluten in the original solution. The explanation contained in the second sentence I quoted from your post would not seem to square with the physics of the distillation process. Unless, that is, I misunderstood what you were trying to explain.

      No they do not contradict each other. Just like frying oil can be cross contaminated even though the oil doesn't contain the luten protein. The same is the same for a distilled vinegar or spirit which originally came from a gluten source. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean you can tell me that my sentences contradict each other. Do you have a PhD in biochemistry or friends that do and access to a lab?  If not, saying you don't understand is one thing anything else can be dangerous to others.

      The reason that it triggers your dermatitis herpetiformis but not your celiac disease is because you aren't completely intolerant to gluten. The celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis genes are both on the same chronometer. Dermatitis herpetoformus reacts to gluten even if there's a small amount of cross contamination while celiac gene may be able to tolerate a some gluten or cross contamination. It just depends on the sensitivity of the gene.

I guess I misunderstand what you are trying to say but the statements in those two sentences seem to contradict one another.

      It isn't a conjecture. I have gotten glitened from having some distilled white vinegar as a test. When I talked to some of my scientists friends, they confirmed that for a mall percentage of people, distilled white vinegar is a problem. The cross contamination isn't from wheat glue in a cask. While yhe gluten protein is too large to pass through the distillation process, after the distillation process, the vinegar is still cross contaminated. Please don't dismiss or disregard the small group of people who are 100^ gluten intolerant by saying things are conjecture. Just because you haven't done thr research or aren't as sensitive to gluten doesn't mean that everyone is like you.
