So I glutoned myself badly this weekend. On Friday evening after being out the night before celebrating my boy friend's birthday I was way too lazy to cook. We ended up ordering out. I had friench fries and a salad (which I used my own dressing that I have at home) and he had pizza. I broke down and had the topping of one of the pieces of pizza, thinking (or praying) that the "cross contamination" was not an issue for me. It took until Saturday night for me to get sick, but wow. The pain of a tummy attack (that's my name for the attacks) was horrendous. I was ready to go to the hospital. It was 100 times worse than I ever remember and I have only been gluton free for maybe two months. I was in and out of the bathroom for five hours. On Sunday I had the normal exhaustion but along with that I had and actually continue to have today an awful aching in my gut. It fees like I have an open wound in my stomach.

I also (as gross as this is) have been burping this awful tasting gas, like rotten eggs. Is this normal? I'm wondering if I should be concerned and go to the doctor. I'm also still exhausted, it took everything I had today to get out of bed. I'm scared I have done something bad to my stomach, it just feels "damaged".

Regardless, I learnt my lesson. I have diabetes too and when I want to cheat with that I just take extra Insuline, but never, never again will cheating on my Celiac diet cross my mind.

;)

yucky.. sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad, sometimes it takes something like that to happen to get us reminded that we cant touch anything, especially food, that is near or on something gluten!! I get burping too, heartburn, and all that stuff.. it doesnt taste like rotten eggs, but its there..I think it is just a side affect for the gluten..

someone else will chime in here and give you better advice on that than me..

I hope you feel better soon!

One of the best things I have found for that horrible stomach pain is Pepto. It may not work for all but many get almost instant relief and usually I don't need a second dose. You did give your tummy an awful assalt and the rest of your system too. It will take awhile to get fully over it. If you tolerate dairy also have some yogurt to rebalance your 'flora and fauna' just make sure it is gluten-free of course.

I hope you feel better soon.

I definetely will try the yogurt. I"m going to get some for lunch.

I will try pepto next time (hopefully there won't be a next time but I doubt that). But the actual pain I fealt I couldn't imagine something like pepto working. My stomach honestly feels damaged right now. I sure learnt my lesson.

Thanks for the heads up on the yogurt.

After my 3 year old daughter's diagnosis, we all got tested. My 5 year old son also came back positive with number 12x the upper limit.  We will confirm with another tTG and the other 2 tests in the panel.  He has zero symptoms that I have noticed. Maybe occasionally vomiting. He does have asthma. He's kind of an a**hole sometimes but also he's 5. He has SO much energy. Like miles and miles of biking, running, gymnastics. Never stops. Eats great, normal growth. It was comparing my daughter to him that made me push to figure out what was wrong with her!  Is it possible for a tTG test to just be totally wrong?

I'm heading to the UK for a vacation the end of this month on a tour with Road Scholar. I haven't been out of the US since my diagnosis so I'm a little concerned about exposure to gluten during my travels. Most of our meals are provided by the tour. Either the hotels we are staying at, or places we will visit. Road Scholar is aware of my dietary needs as well. Any helpful hints about navigating the restaurants in England is greatly appreciated. Also are there any medications out there to help mitigate the effects of exposure to gluten? Thanks in advance.
