anyone aware of a support group or any new info on restaurants in the lake county area. i know the whole foods in palatine does meetings but thats a pretty good cruise from beach park.

Haven't got a clue, but just wanted to say "hi!" I'm in Pittsburgh now, but grew up in Glencoe.

Man, I miss Lake Michigan!!!!

Oh, we had it here, too! We get all your weather, minus 5 degrees or so, and sometimes with a little lake effect precipitationfrom Lake Erie, held in by the Allegheny mountains, so it's nearly always cloudy. And we have major hills here, which really screws everything up!

Why dont' you call some of the major hospitals in Waukegan and see if they have any meetings or have phone numbers for any local support groups. I was not diagnosed Celiac when I left IL six years ago. So I had no reason at that time to look for support. There is also a hospital in Chicago that has a Celiac research center and maybe they would have phone numbers for a local support group in your area. Good luck.

thanks mouse , thats a good idea. i think i found the hospital in chicago i think its UIC and they have a celiac specialty section i will diffenitly look in to it ....thanks again

      Pua, do you understand that genetic testing cannot be used as proof of having celiac disease as it only establishes the potential to develop active celiac disease? About 40% of the population has the genetic potential to develop active celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop it. However, it can be used as a rule out measure.

      Mahalo for all of the answers this has been super helpful. He is doing so much better on a gluten free diet. I may consider genetic testing as I never thought of that as an option and I definitely don’t want to go the usual route and have to give him gluten again for the test. It’s nice to have an “official diagnosis” but as long as he’s healthy I don’t c...

      Welcome to the forum, @Marilyn1941! As Wheatwacked explained, we need more information. There are a number of blood antibody tests that can be run to detect celiac disease. Some are more meaningful than others in the sense of positive results being due to celiac disease or possibly due to something else. So, knowing exactly what test the score you gave...

      When my son was weaned in 1976 he was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. My mom said at the time. "you got what you gave." His doctor insisted on Nutramigen as the only hyperallergenic baby formula with full nutrition. After 6 months he was weaned to gluten free diet. It seems it still has that status. He has grown strong and well.

      Hi @Marilyn1941, Welcome to the forum. There is not enough info to go on. What test name? What are the results and the laboratory's normal range they used? Why were you tested? What kind of symptoms? Age, sex and country would be helpful but not necessary.

      Welcome to the forum, @Marilyn1941! As Wheatwacked explained, we need more information. There are a number of blood antibody tests that can be run to detect celiac disease. Some are more meaningful than others in the sense of positive results being due to celiac disease or possibly due to something else. So, knowing exactly what test the score you gave is referring to would be helpful. In addition, the ranges and units of measure used by different labs differs from one lab to another. There is no industry standard for these. So, we would need to know the reference ranges for negative vs. positive for that test used by the lab who did the analysis. And was there only that one test ordered by the physician?
