Walk For Celiac

This might be a bit extreme, but I just gave money towards a walk for HIV and it made me think, "why can't there be a walk for Celiac?" Does anyone know how one would even go about organizing something like this? I think it would be a great way to raise awareness and maybe get some donations for research. Even if there were only a handful of us from different states maybe we could make a difference. What does everyone think? We could pick a day and make it Celiac awareness day and do a walk for Celiac? I live in the Philadelphia area and would be more than willing to try to set something up here. Am I crazy or do you think something like this is possible? I would love to hear what your opinions are and if anyone has any other suggestions/ideas/concerns. :P

YIPPEE---I will be on the bandwagon next year. I think we will be hearing more about this in the future as people make the connection between eating gluten free and how it will help with joint pain, ADD/ADHD, autism and other ailments. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Barbara

Yeah, I didn't make it to the one in San Diego this year, but they've been holding it annually for a little while.

There is also one in Sacramento California. For Celiacs and friends.

Indiana Chapters of CSA had their first walk this July. Their website is www.glutenfreeindy.com Contact Diane or Joyce through that site, I am sure they would love to share from their planning experience. I hope to organize a 5K run next year in my area - a fund and awareness raiser. I think it is a super idea!

I am not taking anything except for the multivitamins that I purchased from the supermarket.

The critic acid and sodium citrate is corn unfortunately and they don’t have to label corn because it’s not part of the top 9 allergen and not mandatory 😭

Yaya, from the JAMA study you refer to: "Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity." No one on this forum is recommending  taking anywhere near that amount. We're talking about 5-10,000IU daily.

"Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D." Quoted from the Healthline article @Yaya linked above...
