Wow, what luck!

It is so much fun! I get started and don't want to stop. It doesn't feel like exercise at all while I'm doing it, but when I'm done I am sweating!

I'm anxious to hear how it goes at Best Buy!

Oh gosh kat, so sorry your dealing with such a messed up situation. Too many things at one time. Try to remember you need to focus on yourself too, in these times when everyone else will need you for one reason or another.

I hope your Dad feels better soon. I'm sure it will make your Dad happy if you and your GS gives him the attention and time he needs, regardless of how your other sister is acting.

I hope things smooth out soon. Family troubles are the worst.

Hope you find that DDR and have some fun with it!

UR Groovy Explorer

Hi again, Ladies,

Thanks Joni.

In keeping with my new-found accountability, here goes (I'll Edit later if needed):

B - Had a little serving of the pot roast I planned on eating yesterday

L - I had pot roast again (easy) - carrots, potatoes, celery, etc.

D - 1/2 a Chicken Breast / Stir-fry veggies again (eggplant, kale, red bells, carrots)

*Joni, I make stir-fry kale a lot, but I'm adding carrots (julienne) tonight on your recommendation - sounds yummy.

Snacks - Seeds & nuts again (boring) / 8 oz. juice / cucumber / a pear

Edit: Decided to have a shot of tequila tonight.

I'm not so hungry today.

About DDR: We went to a couple places & we suspect that Frye's will come out with a sale on Friday. Best Buy didn't have much today. I'm kind of bummed to wait, but we've decided that we're going to the gym tomorrow (Hubby has the day off). I guess I can wait.

Adios, Amigos,

Hi everyone,

Kat - I hope your family craziness is settling down a bit!

I did great, or thought I was doing great yesterday until I was keeping score for our boys' HS varsity basketball game and started to black out. I realized that my blood sugar was in the basement and that I was going to hit the floor any minute. Great... Right in the middle of a game. One of the coaches had some M & M's, so I ate them to avoid an embarrassing situation. I felt better in about 10 minutes, but had a whopping headache for quite a while afterward. I guess I didn't quite eat enough during the day.

Yesterday-

B - 2 pieces of chicken sausage

S - small handful of raw almonds

L - salad with veggies, turkey breast and low-cal raspberry vinaigrette

D - chicken salad with pinenuts and orange vinaigrette

S - quite a few M & M's to avoid passing out, part of a Mrs. May's nut bar to get some protein to avoid having a sugar crash

Today-

B - 2 pieces chicken sausage, one orange slice

S - small handful of raw almonds

L - Salad with turkey breast and reduced calorie Caesar dressing, 2 gluten-free crackers, 3 orange slices

S - a few chips and salsa

D - rosemary chicken breast, about 3/4 potato, cooked carrots

S - several chocolate mint sticks  (no excuse tonight)

I'll be hitting the gym hard tomorrow morning!

Hi Ladies

WOW! Liz I hope that you are Ok now from having a sugar low.

I am supposed to be studing for my Law and Ethics (HIPAA) test that I have to go and take later today, I just can't get into it maybe because it is so boring, and I have next week of it too. So I will keep this short if you can imagine that from me.

With not have an official diagnoses it is really hard when my husband wants to go out or order pizza, I try really hard to order something that I know I will be ok with or keep rice crust pizza in my freezer. So what I am going to try to do is in February is if and when I get my bonus check from work with the amount that is needed to order from Enterolab, order the gene test to see what the results are, because having an offical result would I think help my husband understand that I have a real problem and he'll make an effort to help me out as well. And it will help me to stay on track too.

Meals as of Mondays dinner was not Chicken, mashed potatos, and green beans. I had gotten home too late from picking up my daughter from school and I had to go back to the Mall to finish picking out my glasses, and then repicking because the glasses that I picked out would not support the lens that I need which barely had any string, wire exposed so the Tech said that they would not work and I got mad because I was tired of looking because it is really hard to see in the first place without my glasses, and my daughter was hungry, so I finally picked out some glasses that are really expensive, cute and luckily with everything that I wanted on my lens Insurance covered and I pretty much paid for the frames. I had picked out some frame that were $89 and the frame that I am getting are $149 which are designer Jones New York I had never intended on getting somthing so expensive because I was going to get sunglasses too. because they would have been over 50% off so I had planed on that until the Tech said no that I could not use the frames that I picked out. OK so that was my rant for now, sorry about that, so anyway we go home after 6pm and it was too late to make Chicken so we had Taco Bell.

D- Nacho Bell Grande with no Tomatos (I think at this point I need an intervention on my food intake)

DDP

Wednesday

B- coffee

gluten-free maple buckwheat flake cereal with milk

vitamin water fruit punch

D- Grilled Chicken, grilled shrimp, veggies, rice from Joe's Crab Shack

D coke

water

Today

B- gluten-free maple buckwheat flake cereal with milk

vitimin water fruit punch

Dinner will be this time Chicken, mashed potatos, and green beans because I need something to take to work tonight and tommarrow night.

Tonight when I go to work I will weigh myself and hopefully I will have stayed the same.

Happy eating ladies, keep up the good work

UR Groovy Explorer

Goodness, Liz - that doesn't sound good. Maybe you could try to eat more times during the day or somethin'.

Donna, my husband always complains about how boring it is when he has to do HIPAA and compliance stuff for his job. Hope your test goes well.

So, I went to the gym ! Yaay

I'll post my food probably Saturday, but have a busy couple days coming up w/ family stuff.

I weighed in today - I have, indeed, lost a couple lbs & my waist is smaller.

So, I'm just under 160. I actually lost a couple lbs. Wow.

Have great days,

k

I was part of the old diet thread then I quit dieting! I am back and doing great...I have lost 22 pounds since Oct 1st. I would like to rejoin....is that OK? I am on the South Beach diet. I have rejoined the board since I discovered that my 5yo dd MOST likely has celiacs. She is on day 2 of a gluten-free trial and poor baby had a 100th day of school party complete with cupcakes. I wish I had known I would have baked her some gluten-free ones! I felt as big as an toenail :(

She is im sure handeling it better than I, as she is not food obsessed like us adults (me) tend to be!

I don't know what to do. I don't know how to think. I guess you think you're parents are immortal all your life. My Mom is taking my Dad to the emergency room. We haven't found out what the problem is - I'm 45 minutes away from them - I don't even know where they are. I'm terrified.

Please say a prayer for my family, for my dad. Thanks

Kat, I am so sorry that your Dad is being rushed to the hospital, hopefully everything is OK and hopefully all your family will calm down now enough to see to your Dad. I will say a prayer for your Dad and your family.

Hi Shannon,

Certainly you can join us! Sounds like your doing great on South Beach. Way to go!

I think your right about children and food. They really don't seem to get as emotional as adults do over food. How long are you going to keep her on the diet?

I'm seriously considering having my son and daughter go on a gluten free trial. They both have some subtle symptoms and signs that makes me think they could each have Celiac. My son is willing to try it, but my daughter is kind of bothered by the idea.

Hi Ladies,

I'm so sorry for posting totally off-topic last night. It was totally rude of me.

Welcome to the new thread, Shannon, and congratulations on your 22 lb weight loss - that's great !

Okay, is it possible that I've lost 4 lbs in a week? That's what the scale says - crazy, right? I totally stuck to my diet yesterday, despite certain stressors. My only cheat was milk in one of my coffees. Hopefully, we'll be getting the DDR today. I'm so excited about that.

Just an update: my Dad is going in again today for more tests. For the time being, he's okay ... not great - the details are not so pretty. I Thank You for your concern and prayers. Sorry I kind of had a temporary loss of sanity last night.

Take care, Ladies,

Kat don't worry about going of subject, it was about your dad and It concerns you that something was going on with him and I know that it feels better to get things off your chest, you know and seen me do it about random things as well.

I have decided to try to do away with soda drinks well not totally anyway, but slow down on my consumption on them. I drink way too many espially at work so I have been trying and liking the Lipton Tea bottle drinks with lemon the other flavors not so much. I really hope that these don't have gluten products in these, I figure with my vitamin waters and tea that I should like these well enough to get rid of the soft drinks all to gether because I know that the Aspertame is not good for me too.

Ok meals for today, up at 12:30pm

coffee

D- gluten-free pizza with candian bacon, onion, green bell pepper, and cheese which I ate half of this while driving to work and drinking my Tea

Lipton Lemon tea

For Dinner tonight

gluten-free sandwhich with Ham, cheese, avacodo, alfalfa sprouts

salad with my own dressing

DDP.

I did weigh myself and I am now 146lbs

Happy eating ladies and have a wonderful weekend

Hey everyone,

Hope your all having a great day!

Kat, don't apologize for anything! We all understand and have been there. :)

I hope everything goes smooth with your Dad's tests and he feels better quickly.

Good job on the 4 lbs! Sounds like your new ideas are working...and quickly. Good job.

Donna, looks like your scale is going in the right direction too. Yay!

I lost 2 lbs. this week. I'm really determined to get to my goal weight this time. I have some money from my birthday and Chrismas but refuse to buy any clothes until I am under 130 lbs. I struggle real hard to try to get under 132, but I am going to do it this time.

I did 45 minutes of yoga Thursday, but nothing Wed. and Fri, so I am doing an hour of something today.

Have a great day!

UR Groovy Explorer

Hi Everybody, B)

I'm here to confess my sins. Last night, I had a beer (Edit: Redbridge, of course), a shot of tequila, and some tortilla chips -

Booooooo.

<_<

It's gonna be the Championship game, there has to be some celebrating and enjoying, right? ;)

I got the DDR. How cool is that ? We tried it for a bit before Charger Happy Hour Friday - I can see where that could burn some calories, although, it reminded David & me of just how uncoordinated we are again. I'm stoked we got it - it's totally fun.

I'm glad you're beginning to get off the sodas, Donna. I have about 1 soda every 2 months or so - usually a root beer as a treat. I don't think they do anybody any favors.

Joni - 2 pounds - YaaY ! I'm not buying clothes either - not yet.

So, hoping that I don't blow it too bad during the game. Maybe I'll just snack on brocolli  - but not very likely.

Have great weekends, all

k

!!! Go Chargers !!!

Joni63 Collaborator

Hey Kat,

Yay! Glad you got the DDR. Yes, you can burn some serious calories on that and it is fun! :)

I think a Redbridge and some tortillas is a nice treat to have now and then. I think every good diet should include a treat night or treat day where you can indulge in some of the things you like! ;)

little d Enthusiast

Hi Ladies,

Kat, I was so pulling for your Chargers to win the game, we were wanting the Chargers to win because we wanted someone differant to go to the SuperBowl, and we were pulling for the Packers to win as well. I am so tired of the Patriots winning, Brady is really not that cute of a guy.

I told my husband that I wanted a DDR, I don't think that I'll get it, but I told him that Hannah wanted one too.

I did not do much this weekend, Saturday I slept until 1:30pm, I worked Thursday and Friday night. The rest of my weekend we just all laid around the house did a little house work, dishes, laundry and Sunday watched football all day and disappointed in the teams that I wanted to go to the Superbowl. So for once I am really not excited about watching on the big game day.

Ok my meals were not so great this weekend but here we go.

Saturday, up at 1:30pm

coffee

D- 1 1/2 Stuffed baked potato with Hamburger, Bacon, green onion, sour cream, cheese

Tea

Sunday

B- 2 gluten-free waffles

D- Chicken cordon blue this I don't think was gluten free I was pretty gassy after

coke zero (so much for my idea of having tea instead of soda drinks

Monday

B- gluten-free english muffin with egg, cheese, ham

milk

For dinner I am planning on making Stew with potatos and carrots.

I am hoping for a great week of eating right for myself, I defiantly feel better, concentrate better and I can wake up without wanting to go back to sleep.

Happy eating Ladies B)

Okay, so I totally blew my diet this weekend - Totally.

It pretty much went like this:

B - pizza

L - pizza and margaritas

D - pizza

Snacks - a little bit of pizza

Oh, we love the DDR. Joni, I'm glad you sparked my interest in it. It takes a little getting used to. We did about 1/2 hour yesterday (we got 2 mats so we can compete). It does get your heart rate going. Dave loves it too.

Yeah, Donna, I was hoping for Green Bay too - we're not real fond of the Mannings 'round these parts. I have a feeling it would have been pointless for us to win our game. Our 3 main guys on offense are hurt so bad we probably wouldn't have a chance at the big game anyway. As always, there's always next year. I'm not that into the Superbowl this year. Patriots - booooo / Giants - boooooo. B)

Hopefully, I'll get right back on the horse as far as my diet goes. I'll let you know.

Have great days, ladies,

k

Joni63 Collaborator

Hey Ladies,

I've been doing well with the exercise, but the dieting is going astray. I've been having a few lays stax, chocolate, and m&m's over the weekend. Had a few lays stax today. I have got to stay out of that can.

Exercise Sunday: 1 hour 10 minutes of power yoga, Monday: volunteer work helping to move 4,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies, if that can count. I was too exhausted and my arms hurt too much when I got home to do anything else.

Kat,

Glad your both liking the DDR. :) We also have 2 mats and we all get to compete against each other. I love it when I can do better than the kids, lol. Of course I don't tell them I do it while they are at school. :D

Donna, maybe since Hannah and you both want DDR, you will be able to get it. It does cost a bit initially, but if you already have a game system it's not too bad considering what a membership to an exercise class costs. At least that's how I justified getting mine, lol.

Sounds like we all got off our diet a little bit this weekend. Time to get serious again!!!!

(That's supposed to be a determined smiley, not a mad one, lol!)

little d Enthusiast

Hi Ladies

Kat the radio station that I listen to, one of the guys said that he was driving by Texas Stadium and the parking lot was totally empty and he could not help but think that it should have been full of people for the Cowboys vs Packers game that he got sad. I think that it should have been too but Tony Romo had to get his head up Jessica Simpsons butt and go down to Mexico, along with the rest of the team, they did not keep there heads into the game. Tom Landry is rolling in his grave at the thought of the team going down to Mexico to get a little fun in the sun. it just ruined there momentum for the game, it did not matter if TO was healthy enough to play in the game, he went to Mexico too so I think that they were a little too cocky to play the Giants

Ok, so I was laying in bed and I could feel my hip bone which I could not feel in quite a while. It is not like anorexic like feeling but I was able to feel the bone, but I still have a lot of fat there, as long as I cant see it or feel it while standing, I can't see my ribs yet that will be when I am down to 130 or so.

My meals yesterday were

B- gluten-free english muffin with ham, egg, cheese

milk

coffee

L-left over chicken on my last Hemp tortilla with cheese (the other tortilla fell on the floor ;) )

coke zero

D- Beef stew with carrots and potatos

3glasses of fresh tea

Today

B- coffee

gluten-free english muffin with ham, egg, cheese

regular milk so far so good

I have no idea what is for dinner tonight because I am working, my daughter usually eats over at my mother in laws when she spends the night and my husband he can fend for himself usaually he won't eat when he gets home because he eats lunch so late in the day that he won't eat dinner when I do make dinner.

Hello all!

I am pretty new to this forum and anything that says weight loss, I am always interested in reading. Mostly for ideas and and the like. Soooo, I have been perusing a bit...

I just wanted to thank whoever posted that recipe for the stir fried kale!!!!!! (I'm sorry, I forgot the name... :o )

HOW GREAT IS THAT STUFF??????

I do have to say I added some sliced garlic though, but it was absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much for post, I have wanted to try kale for awhile but was unsure what to do with it. Can't believe I went this long without trying it.

Thanks again!!

Liz

Joni63 Collaborator

Hi Liz,

Your are welcome! So glad you tried the recipe and liked it. :) I too started adding crushed garlic after I have made it a couple times. My Aunt just introduced me to that recipe and told me she uses Christina Cooks books and recipes all the time. She eats healthy and exercises and is a very pretty lady in her 60's.

I would have never thought I would like kale, until I tried it! :)

lizard00 Enthusiast

I have never heard of Christina Cooks. Is that the name of the book? or is it a series? I would be interested in checking into that.

I am ALWAYS looking for new ways to cook foods; especially greens. The only way I have ever known them to be cooked was one way: to death with a honking piece of fat back. YUCK! So, now I'm trying to eat them, but not quite sure where to start.

Thanks again!

Hi Everyone!

Kat - I hope your dad is doing okay - sorry to read that he's been having troubles.

Liz - welcome aboard! Nice to see another Liz here!

I'm down 1-1/2 pounds from last week! Hurray!

I've been really busy, so haven't gotten on here much at all lately. Glad to see you all posting and keeping this up! Basketball is hectic, but fun. My JV girls have won 3 games in a row and our varsity girls are ranked 9th in the state. Woo hoo!

Hi Ladies,

I am maintianing a B average in my Medical Transcription, I opted to take my weekly final for my law and ethics class because I had done everything that I could and I was so bored with it that I did not want to continue studing for something that I can only read so much of. So now I am half way through the course Medical Terninology is the next 4 weeks, it should be easy enough for me, because I went through it 5 years ago with my Medical Assisting classes, so I am expecting to do fairly decent.

We are finally moving in 3 weeks, Countrywide finally made the decision on letting the couple who has stuck around long enough to buy our house, it has only taken CW to make a long 4 months I think to make up their minds, I think with the pressure on the econmy that they had to let the decision be a yes, So with that I will look really hot by next October when I weigh 120, because I will be forced to walk my dog and be able to work out in the little gym that they have.

Tonight before I came to work I ate

gluten-free sandwhich with ham and cheese

coke zero

Lipton Lemon tea

water

dinner tonight at work

gluten-free mac and cheese with tuna

another Lipton lemon tea

later ddp

I am still a little hungry so I just might go down and get something to snack on, I think that I saw carrots and celery in the cafeteria.

She has a cooking show called Christina Cooks and her real name is Christina Pirello. Here is the link to her website. I believe she is a vegetarian.

Yay Donna, glad your house is finally going to be sold. I'm sure that makes you happy.

How long does your medical transcription class take to complete? Sounds like your doing really well with it.

I did well with food and exercise yesterday. Don't know how today will go - I have a terrible migraine and was up all night with it.

Hope you all have a great day!

@Mynx, how long have you been gluten-free? I ask because many newly diagnosed celiacs react to many things, and often think their reactions are caused by gluten, when in fact, they are really caused by a combination of a sensitive gut due to damage, as well as additional food intolerance/leaky gut issues to other foods which may be temporary until their villi heal.
    • Scott Adams
Many major brands of distilled vinegar in the USA, including Heinz white vinegar, are typically made from corn. In the United States, corn is a common and cost-effective raw material used in the production of distilled white vinegar. The process involves fermenting the sugars derived from corn into alcohol, which is then further fermented into acetic acid to produce vinegar. Distillation follows, which purifies the liquid and removes impurities, including any residual proteins or allergens. While the source of the vinegar (e.g., corn) is not always explicitly stated on the label, corn-derived vinegar is widely used in the food industry due to its neutral flavor and affordability. For individuals with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, distilled vinegar made from corn is generally considered safe, as the distillation process effectively removes gluten proteins. However, if you have concerns about cross-contamination or specific sensitivities, it’s always a good idea to contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the sourcing and production practices. Heinz, for example, has stated that their distilled white vinegar is gluten-free and safe for those with celiac disease, but verifying this information can provide additional peace of mind. The belief that distilled vinegar is gluten-free is rooted in the scientific understanding that gluten proteins, which are large and complex molecules, are generally too big to pass through the distillation process. Distillation involves heating a liquid to create vapor, which is then condensed back into a liquid form, leaving behind larger molecules like gluten proteins. However, the concern about cross-contamination arises from the possibility that gluten-containing ingredients may have been present in the liquid prior to distillation. While the distillation process itself is highly effective at removing gluten, the equipment used in production could potentially introduce trace amounts of gluten if not thoroughly cleaned between batches. For most individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, distilled vinegar is considered safe because the gluten content, if any, is typically below the threshold that would trigger a reaction. However, for those with extreme gluten intolerance or celiac disease, even trace amounts can cause adverse effects. This is why some individuals, like yourself, may choose to avoid commercially produced distilled vinegar and opt for alternatives like apple cider vinegar, which can be verified as gluten-free. The meticulous process of researching ingredients and preparing homemade products, such as ketchup, is indeed challenging but crucial for maintaining health and avoiding gluten exposure. It’s important to note that regulatory standards for gluten-free labeling vary by region, and in many places, products labeled "gluten-free" must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is considered safe for the vast majority of people with celiac disease. Nonetheless, individual sensitivity levels can vary, and your approach highlights the importance of personalized dietary management for those with severe gluten intolerance.
    • Bebee
I have been diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis (LC) for quite a few years, so I have been gluten-free and DF.  I would like to get tested for Celiac Disease because of the possibility of cross contamination and colon cancer.  And if you were hospitalized and didn't have a celiac diagnosis you could not get gluten-free food, I don't know if that is true or not.  Also because there is chance of colon cancer so I want to know if I have Celiac Disease and need to be on very restrictive diet.  The only testing I did was a sigmoid scope and Enter Lab but no gene testing.  I know I can go back to eating gluten for a few months, but I would worry you would have to stay home for the few months while getting gluten.  What other options do I have?  Should I do the gene testing?  Maybe through Entero Lab?  Any other tests?  How important is it to have Celiac diagnosed? Thank you! Barb
    • trents
Take it easy! I was just prompting you for some clarification.  In the distillation process, the liquid is boiled and the vapor descends up a tube and condenses into another container as it cools. What people are saying is that the gluten molecules are too large and heavy to travel up with the vapor and so get left behind in the original liquid solution. Therefore, the condensate should be free of gluten, no matter if there was gluten in the original solution. The explanation contained in the second sentence I quoted from your post would not seem to square with the physics of the distillation process. Unless, that is, I misunderstood what you were trying to explain.
    • Mynx
No they do not contradict each other. Just like frying oil can be cross contaminated even though the oil doesn't contain the luten protein. The same is the same for a distilled vinegar or spirit which originally came from a gluten source. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean you can tell me that my sentences contradict each other. Do you have a PhD in biochemistry or friends that do and access to a lab?  If not, saying you don't understand is one thing anything else can be dangerous to others.
