Please let me know if you start a new thread. I really don't get the impression the weight forum is only for those wanting to gain... it seems like our bodies are so out of wack they are just struggling to find normal. Either they are glad to finally get some nutrients, or they are feeling deprived. Hey, but what do I know, I am new to this.

So yesterday I had almost the same meals. THe only difference was that I cut out the chips at lunch, but then we went to a 50 year anniversary, and I had some cheese (2 slices), about a T. salmon, and a couple of pieces of fruit. I ran 12 miles and then biked for an hour and actually gained about 1 pound. As you might expect I was pretty frustrated with my will power and body. I can't seem to get a grip. I am not eating more than 2000 calories per day, and I am working out pretty hard. So I think I will try the candida diet. I looked at what I am eating and all that fruit adds up to a lot of sugar, and I followed it because a doc made me a few years ago. To be honest, right now i am not optimistic.

Here is today (so far)

Breakfast: none

Snack: 7 dates with a t. peanut butter and about 4 tortilla chips (I crave crunchy and salt) this was before I decided to try the candida diet.

Lunch: smoothie- same as yesterday, but I cut out the peanut butter. about 6 sweet potato chips and 7 dates

Then I read about the candida diet and threw out my dates!

I went on a 45-50 mile bike ride then ran 8 miles.

snack: about 3 chips, a 1/2 t. peanut butter and some cashews.

I am planning to have aout 1 ounce of salmon and a salad for dinner.

If you see what I am doing wrong... let me know. I am pretty frustrated. I would like to get my weight under control while I am still within 10 pounds.

Ok, I went to bed with my stomach growling, but I sucked it up and realized no one ever starved to death because they skipped a snack. Usually after a long ride and run like that I would be retaining a lot of water. Instead I got up and was down 2 pounds. Maybe I am always up after hard workouts because i reward myself with carbs. Yesterday I had protein instead... kind of hard on the stomach when heading out the door to run, but I can probably find something better than a handful of cashews anyway.

It doesn't seem like anyone wants to start a new thread, so let's just keep going on this one.

Hightop Girl - do you do triathlons, or do you just like running and biking? I've always been an athlete and used to do small (sprint) triathlons and I would run and bike like that too. It is frustrating to work out so hard and not lose weight.

I have to severly restrict my eating or I don't lose weight. I've been working out regularly in the gym - running on the running track, riding the bike, working on the "arm bike", doing the elliptical machine and lifting weights and have gained almost 10 pounds in the past year. And it's not muscle. So I'm trying to get back on track and not eat all the yummy things that I like to bake.

Okay everyone, it's Monday, the start of a new week. Is anyone else "starting over" for the spring and excited about getting back on track?

hightop girl,

I just found out that decaffeinated coffee is bloating me a keeping me from losing weight. I stopped it for 2 days and lost 2 lbs., and it was over the weekend so I didn't exercicse much. I also just finished Diflucon and Tetrazole for systemic candida infection so that might play into it. I really think it's the coffee though because the first day I drank 1 cup in the morning my stomach hurt for a while and I was super busy that day and didn't get the chance to have any more and at night my stomach didn't hurt!!!

But if I do not exercise for any length of time, I will put on weight. Are you weighing yourself the same time every day? I am usually 2 lbs. heavier at the end of the day no matter what and it goes down in the morning. Do you drink a lot of water? I also will gain weight after I drink a lot of fluids. The best thing is to try and weigh in the same time every day. Well, actually every week, but I weigh in every day as way of monitoring how I'm doing.

lonewolf,

Yes, I am psyched! Bathing suit season is coming up and I have to lose this weight or be embarrassed at the pool! I'm kind of on an elimination diet and mostly whole foods and it's really helping me. If I eat lots of fruits and veggies I do fine with my weight and lose easier. Exercising has been going well too.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Okay, here I am all motivated, but now I'm hungry and craving Brazilian Cheese Rolls. Must. . . Not. . . Make. . . Bread. . . As much as I love that recipe, I'm sorry I ever found it sometimes. I think I gained 2 pounds last week just from eating those yummy little rolls.

So far today I've only eaten a piece of turkey bacon and had a cup of tea. I'm thinking about lunch now and trying to keep my willpower together. Salad will have to satisfy me!

Guest hightop girl

I did triathlons (just sprint distance) about 10 years ago. Since then I have done the MS 150 bike ride and several marathons. My goofy sister talked me into doing a marathon with her (supposed to be last weekend, but my daughter had ACL surgery, so I just timed a 20 mile run instead) and then a 1/2 ironman in June. So... I guess the answer is yes I do triathlons. I am having trouble with the fueling part... I don't want to gain weight, but you really do have to fuel if you work out that long at one time. I am lactose intolerant, and I am trying to follow a candida diet. That has really helped with the bloating, but what does that leave to eat? I really couldn't figure out what to have for a snack today so I kind of just gave up.

Here is today:

Breakfast: none

Snack (about 9:00 am) one boiled egg

Lunch (about 1:30) my daughter had a senior luncheon- salad and pasta and cookies- I skipped all of that because I was afraid of even the salad after my airport experience. I went back to work and had a small salad with steelhead trout on it, and a few tortilla chips.

Snack- I tried a few nuts and a little peanut butter- but nothing really sounded or tasted good so I gave up

Dinner- Salad with steelhead and salsa and a few tortilla chips crushed and added on top. And 7 rice crackers.

I really am craving something sweet, but I think I will live- just pout a little.

I biked for about 20 minutes this morning, swam 30 minutes this afternoon, and will probably ride on a stationary bike while I watch the KU game.

I hope my weight stays stable or goes down.

lonewolf Collaborator

I did well today. Did not give in to the Brazilian Cheese Bread cravings. I just daydreamed about them.

B - 1 piece turkey bacon, unsweetened tea

L - Salad with Romano cheese, flax meal and light Italian dressing, carrot sticks

S - Carrot sticks, about 3 C popcorn (no butter)

D - Salmon, about 1 C rice with garlic sauce, cooked carrots

And I just got back from working out.

Howdy again,

I have no idea what's going on in here ...

Hi New People

Hi, also, the ones I'm familiar with

Here are my

Weight Loss Confessions

I've lost no weight. I'm in need of change ... change of habits and of flabbiness. I love working out. Why don't I do it more? I'm fed up with carrying it around. At a size 12, I look a few lbs overweight, but in a bathing suit - it's not good.

I think I'm finally sick enough of this that I'm ready to commit. It's worked before, and it's going to work again.

This is me, working on a goal:

So, let's see ... It's the second week of April. If I were to really reach for it - the GOAL, that is - I would shoot for about 150 lbs, so, at 165, that's 15 lbs to lose - I'm very large frame at 5'7". If I really, really worked out & stopped snacking, I believe that I could lose that 15 lbs. by my birthday (mid-June). That's about 9 weeks. So, it's a little less than 2 lbs. per week. It's possible (and, it's probable, when you take into consideration my extreme level of fed-upedness).

I really think yoga would be great ... weight training - gotta have it. Hiking, DDR, cardio, all the stuff.

It starts with going to the gym today ... right now ... bye.

Hi Kat! I can so totally relate. I don't look too bad fully clothed - I'm a size 12 too - but the bathing suit is not going to happen without some work.

I'm 5'7 too, and want to get to 150 by June 15th. Maybe we can encourage each other extra good? I have about 21 pounds to go, but I think it's do-able if I really get after it.

Hope your time at the gym went well!

Wow, Liz,

Similar goals. I like it. What a coinkidink. I'll post my confessions or milestones, accordiingly. Let's do the weigh-ins, regardless of the outcome. Once a week for me - whatever day - I'll choose a day of the week.

I'm going to work on a schedule for working out & also, I'm going to try to plan my meals and snacks a few days ahead. I have nothing else to do today, so working on this seems important enough to dedicate some time to. Who knows? It may make cooking & cleaning a bit more sano. With a plan, I can make most stuff ahead of time.

So, I came in to Edit my previous post. I noticed at some point you all were considering starting a new thread - I really like that idea. I like 'support', and I think it naturally comes when the community begins to come together, but I also like 'milestones' - because I feel good when I have something that made a difference. Also 'confessions' - because it gets it off my chest.

What would you guys like this thread to be about? Or am I just being stupid? :P

Now, I'm going to the gym.

Hi ladies,

Liz: I know that you have been camping in the past and we are planning to go soon, was is easy to make pancakes and food that you needed while camping.

I have not gained or lost any weight, I am still at 147lbs. I have changed my drinking habits, as far as diet sodas go anyway. I used to drink 1-3 depending on the day, I am now only drinking 1 d. soda maybe ever other day or may every 3rd day I might have one. My tummy feels better, since I got my results back from Enterolab I have been doing better on watching what I eat.

Here are my meals

Saturday

B- gluten-free waffles

coffee

D- gluten-free pizza

coke zero

Sunday

B- scrambled eggs with gluten-free bacon, onion, bell pepper

Well, I went to the gym ... feels good. Got in 20 minutes on the bike, and 40 minutes on the treadmill. I'll start hitting the elliptical sometime soon. I'm crazy out of shape. I'm so ready to get it on !

Liz: I know that you have been camping in the past and we are planning to go soon, was is easy to make pancakes and food that you needed while camping.

I had no problem making gluten-free food while camping.

Breakfasts - sausage, bacon, pancakes, french toast, hot applesauce

Lunches - chips and refried beans, sandwiches on rice tortillas or lettuce leaves (I'll be bringing Brazilian Cheese Bread this year to try), Envirokidz cereal bars, cookies, fruit, chips, trail mix

Dinners - Camper stew (meat, potatoes, onions and carrots), hamburgers, hotdogs (Ener-G buns), baked beans, chips, tacos, dehydrated soup, fajitas - lots to choose from!

Snacks - cookies, fruit, trail mix

That's all I can think of now, but we never go hungry and have been doing it mostly gluten-free for several years now.

Hey everyone,

I wouldn't mind if we start a new thread. I like the idea of confessions and milestones. I'm sure we each have some of each to tell about!

I have been great dieting, but nixed the exercise this week so far. I just found out I'm severely low in ferritin stores and vitamin D. At least I know why I'm so tired all the time now.

I only missed Monday and Tuesday so I'll just start back up tomorrow.

Happy Healthy Eating and Exercising!

Guest hightop girl

Well here it is for me...

Breakfast - none just black coffee

Rode my bike to work (10 miles)

Snack- 1 boiled egg and a few tortilla chips

Lunch- salad with steelhead and a few chips ( I can't seem to give up the crunch)

ran 4 miles on my break

Snack- 6 rice crackers with peanut butter and one bite of a gluten free protein bar (I have to find something for the 1/2 iron)bar

Rode my bike home 10 miles

late dinner so I had another snack of about 2 T. mixed nuts

Dinner- salad with steelhead and salsa, a few chips.

Snack -- none

A rum and diet coke

I was down another pound today... I think the combo of fruit and 2 glutenings in 10 days really had me retaining a lot of water.

Guest hightop girl

Have any of you followed the candida diet since going gluten free? I have done one or the other, but this is the first time I have done both. It is working. I am down another 1/2 pound, and almost no bloating anymore. My question has to do with cravings and hunger. I am craving something, but I don't know what every evening. And... I feel hungry (stomach actually growling) when I go to bed at night. Will this go away?

little d Enthusiast

Hi Ladies,

hightop: I don't have any idea about the diet that you are talking about, I don't want to start a new diet because my husband still thinks that my eating gluten free is a fad. But I still keep telling him that it is helping me a lot.

My meals as of yesterday

B- coffee

1/2 bowl of gluten-free maple buckwheat flakes

L- gluten-free sandwhich with ham, cheese, alfalfa sprouts, avacodo

friut punch vitamin water

D- another sandwhich with the same stuff

3 glasses of tea

Today

coffee

gluten-free english muffin dipped in gravy

milk

Again no idea what is for dinner but I am working tonight and the next night so Im sure that I will have lots of tea.

I'm doing the candida diet and the casien free diet along with gluten free now. I think it's helping with weight, but I also quit caffeine and all coffee and that has made the biggest difference!

Wow- your dropping pounds like crazy. Good for you!

I think the cravings will go away in a few to a week. It seemed to take me about 5 or 6 days.

I saw one of my docs today and he put me on an anti- autoimmune diet. The idea is that the inflamation from gluten as well as overgrowth of yeast and other allergies causes my autoimmune system to go hog wild. i have lots of autoimmune problems. My biggest fear is that soon I will just get to drink bottled water... Actually I guess i will live. I gave up fruit earlier this week and my bloating went away and I actually started to lose a few pound. Now he wants me to give up nuts as well. That actually made me sad. i given up bread, all grains, pizza, fruit, dates, peanut butter, real beer, and now nuts. I may go nuts. Will all of this "giving up" ever end?

Hey Joni,

There's that Vitamin D again. I've really been trying to get my 10-15 minutes of sun - I've been going for 15 minute walks without sunblock (but I always block my face) to get my stores up again. I should see someone who can assess my vitamin levels. Anyway, hope you get your levels up too.

Is it one of those situations where you may be able to go back to a few of those foods at some point if you get the candida, etc. under control? That would be nice. I always retain water if I get glutened.

-------------------------------------------

Our computer had a meltdown. I'm using a back-up pc. I think it was a virus. I just hope there was no information taken (like turbotax). I'm hoping it was just a meltdown.

We're going to shut this one down & see if we can re-format the other hard drive or something - I don't know. Anyway, I'll be back probably next week. It's been a couple days with no computer - strange how much I rely on it.

In the meantime, I'll keep going to the gym (I've gone twice this week) & I started weight resistance at home - so far, triceps, biceps, shoulders, back&chest

See you guys next week. Have good weekends !

Just checking in to confess what a failure I am in this area. I've managed to gain 2 pounds this week. I've worked out 3 times (usually 4-5), but have eaten whatever I want. I don't know what's wrong with me. I keep getting "motivated", but then it only lasts 12-18 hours and whatever food I happen to see looks good and I think, "I'll just start over tomorrow". This is pathetic - I'm a PE and health teacher and I know exactly what I need to do to lose weight. I just can't make myself do it. Yesterday I ate a bunch of cookies after getting off to a good start. I have no one to blame but myself.

Today I haven't done too badly - it's only 9:15 am. I've eaten 2 pieces of turkey bacon and a whole grapefruit.

Guest hightop girl

Well, I am holding pretty steady today. I am actually up about 1/2 pound, but we went out for a late dinner at a mexican restaurant last night, so it is probably just a little water retention. Finally have some nice weather, so I am going to go for a run.

I am doing better with the diet the doc wants me to follow, but I found that I need to just be a little more reasonable with myself. The minute I felt like I couldn't have those things, I just craved them. so I decided I will cut out some of them, and cut back on some a little more gradually. That seemed to help.

Guest hightop girl

so much for holding steady. Now I am just plain cranky. I am up enough that I refused to actually look at the scale this morning. I am not sure if I got glutened again, or if I just ate something that didn't agree with me in general, or if it is hormonal, or something else... I hate this! :( I ate basically the same thing as everyday... scrambled my egg instead of boiled, lunch was a salad, dinner was a salad. I had the smoothie the doc wants me to eat, and some sweet potato chips. The only 2 things that were different were that I tried cherries in the smoothie, and I didn't have any coconut butter (I ran out) so I just threw in some flaked coconut. By 1:00 in the afternooon I was bloating. Today I am really puffy, my knee is swollen and hurts and my sinuses are congested. I guess I get to start all over trying to lose the weight again. I guess it gives me something to do. I am beginning to be afraid to eat. I can decide if it is a late reaction to the mexican from Friday, or the cherries or the coconut. I guess it is safe to say it wasn't the celery in the smoothie... :P

Guest hightop girl

I just want to give up, put my head under the covers and go back to bed... maybe never face the world or food again. :( After working so hard last week to get the water off from the last glutening... it happened again. I gained at least 4 pounds back over night. I can't decide which is worse: the pain in my stomach, or the pain I feel when I step on the scales. The only 3 new things I had were: flaked coconut, canned tuna, and some sunflower seeds that list cottonseed oil. None had gluten that I could find. And my hormones kicked in again (a week early-) So... here I go again.

I had a small smoothie that the doc wants me to have, and I will have a boiled egg for a snack once I get to work. Hey... maybe I'll try drinking some water today.

Yesterday I just gave up. I started out on the right foot. Then I went for a 2 hour bike ride, but never got my run in. Then I had a granny smith apple with peanut butter and nutella, 4 of those little chocolate eggs, and I started to have a few potato chips but stopped. I just wanted to give up. I guess I should feel good that this weight is probably down from yesterday. What should I do?????

UR Groovy Explorer

Hi,

Pardon my absence. I haven't been on line in a few days. It was definitely a virus on the other computer. We're still farting around trying to decide whether to just get a new computer, a laptop, or reformat. Drag.

Some good news though. I've been working out ! I'm down a couple pounds from last week. I'm determined to not eat a ton of junk at night. Saturday night, I had a major binge. Oh, I felt terrible. After that, I just decided - no more food after 7pm. That was my one area of weakness (sound familiar?). So, I'm sticking to it.

I actually jogged on the treadmill today - something I've never attempted. I decided that if those Biggest Losers can do it, then I certainly can. Have you seen them? These people come in sometimes way over 300 lbs & are running within a week or two. I'm fascinated by the fact that they manage to lose so much weight in such a short period of time. There's a lot of drama in the show, but it's fun to watch them push themselves to the limit.

Just checking in to confess what a failure I am in this area.

No, No ! Not a failure. Make your mind up - take a picture of your butt or something  . You don't have that far to go, Liz ! We can do this. Let me know how you're doing.

What should I do?????

Keep on truckin'. You'll get a handle on this. Takes a while to change things. So, my advice: One day at a time.

Keep smiling ladies !

Hopefully, we'll get this computer issue figured out soon.

As for me, I'm being relentless. I'm going to work my butt off and keep an eye on my diet.

In the US you don't need a referal to see a specialist if you are self pay. PPO you can go directly to any specialist or doctor you prefer. HMO you’ll choose a primary doctor to manage all your care. Pricing of the insurance will vary, as will prescriptions coverage.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @lsky! In Canada I believe your healthcare system is totally socialized so I doubt if you have the option of making direct appointments with specialists. In the U.S. it is becoming more and more that way as most people here now are covered by some government managed healthcare network and almost all providers and specialists are part of those networks. Here and there you will find independent providers that take private pay only but it is the exception. Both in Canada and in the U.S. I believe there is a concerted effort to always keep the PCP in the loop.

I have had celiac disease since i was 7 and i've recently had worsening symptoms, I live in canada and the doctors right now are horrible so my general doctor never puts in my referrals or she does it wrong and i have to wait months-years for an answer. I was wondering I already have a Gastroenterologist, could i just contact him and ask to book an upcoming appointment? i'm not sure if it's different in canada or not.

Welcome to the forum @Juliana82! Bleeding where? Thanks for the articles on seronegative celiac disease. As I recall, one of our moderators is seronegative and has been faithful to draw our attention to this phenomenon at different times. The heterozygous factor seronegative celiac disease is an important factoid I believe.

With such a weak positive, his got may or may not be cleared in three months. My daughter when diagnosed at the age of seven had a TTG score of 388. It was 18 months on a gluten-free diet before her levels returned to normal. it seems to me that when you started something that allows your son to gain weight, as he clearly needs to do, you may want to keep doing it.  Sometimes you just need to figure out the science of it as you go along. Have you been tested?  That’s how I found out I had celiac disease, was after my daughter was diagnosed, and the recommendation given to me was that all of her first-degree relations should be tested as well. I came back with a weak positive when I was on a largely, though not entirely, gluten-free diet (cooking for my newly diagnosed child). good luck with everything.
