My Blood Test Results.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here might be able to look at my blood test results and tell me how high they score. I mean am I off the charts or borderline, or is there such a thing as borderline?

I am totally ignorant about this, so any information would be appreciated.

My doctor said since I have had so many Colonospanys in the past that he didnt feel a biopsy was needed. He said judging from my blood test that there was an 80% or greater chance I had Celiac and to just try the Gluten free diet for 6 months and see how I feel after that.

Here are my test results:

Gliadin Antibody (IGG)= 28 H

Gaiadin Antibody (IGA) = 12 H

Endomysial AB Screen (IGA)

Reflex to Tilter

Endomysial AB (IGA) Screen - Negative

Opinions?

Without the Lab's ranges, it's difficult to determine your test results. Could you post those as well.

Celiac would be diagnosed in the small intestine and therefore an ENDOSCOPY exam would be the testing required to determine that. A colonoscopy would examine the large intestine.

Here are the results with the ranges.

Gliadin Antibody (IGG)= 28 H

Refernece range:

<11 u/mL Negative

11-17 u/mL Equivocal

<17 u/mL Positive

Gaiadin Antibody (IGA) = 12 H

Reference range:

<11 u/mL Negative

11-17 u/mL Equivocal

<17 u/mL Positive

Endomysial AB Screen (IGA)

Reflex to Tilter

Endomysial AB (IGA) Screen - Negative

Thanks again

Bump,

Any opinions on my test results?

Thanks in advance.

They were positive for two out of the three tests. If you are not on the diet already I would give it a strict try for a few months.

Thank you so much for the advise. I am going to do it for 6 months. Being the original OCD personality, I will do it "right".

When should I expect my IBS (D) to start getting better?

For some of us the relief from the D comes pretty quickly. For myself I had relief within about a week. My gas and gurgling stomach were gone soon after. One thing that helps speed healing along is avoiding all dairy at first, the villi that are damaged by celaic are also needed to form the enzyme to digest lactose. Many of us can add dairy back in within a month or two, starting with yogurt and hard cheeses like cheddar, gluten free of course. Another thing that will speed healing is to eat as close to 'pure' as you can. Unprocessed meats and beans, veggies, fruits, nuts, eggs etc are good choices. I hope you start feeling better soon, you have come to a great place for info and support. Read alot here and ask any questions you need to.

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.

The biopsy for celiac disease is done of the small bowel lining and in conjunction with an "upper GI" scoping called an endoscopy. A colonoscopy scopes the lower end of the intestines and can't reach up high enough to get to the small bowel. The endoscopy goes through the mouth, through the stomach and into the duodenum, which is at the upper end of the intestinal track. So, while they are scoping the duodenum, they take biopsies of the mucosal lining of that area to send off for microscopic analysis by a lab. If the damage to the mucosa is substantial, the doc doing the scoping can often see it during the scoping.
