Those familiar with MUA, how accurate are the ratings?

They rate the EM brushes low, or at least the Baby Kabuki, I think they give it about a 45%. Don't quote me on that though (I need to go recheck).

I usually take ratings with a grain of salt however, because something that one loves and raves about another may not like, or vice versa.

I remember seeing that. I think the baby kabuki reviews mostly apply to the old baby kabuki? I don't know, I've purchased highly rated colors that I didn't absolutely love and vice versa, so I don't really go by the percentages. I think the reviews can be helpful to read though. I do think the number of times an item has been reviewed says a lot.

The dhl website says my order will be here in two days. :D (It also says I purchased three pounds of make-up - um that's a lot of minerals  )

Ok i have some good news about the new colors after all.

Today i put majove on my eyes and it is very pretty, its dark but pretty, i put it on the lid then on ther crease i used countryside, brow was oasis and samba as liner and it looks very nice, but i did put floating feathers over it all to lighten it up some. But i still wont use it as a bluch lol.

Today for blush i used all smiles, its kinda peachy but nice and for foundation i used buttered tan, i love this color on me, i am going to get an sample kit today and get all the types of butterend tan and decide which one i want to get a big one of lol.

I dont know if i like my face better today or yesterday lol. I love tis makeup, u can have a new look everyday lmao

Okay, new order is all labeled and color coded. Phew!

Today I've got on Warm-Medium Beige. It may be slightly too dark to match my neck, but sheesh, matched my face exactly just no red. :P It looks pretty good though.

New colors for eyes: Scented Candles and Countryside.  Okay, LOVE both of them. I put Scented candles all over, then a little Countryside at the lash line and up into the crease, then put a little more Countryside as a liner. Very nice!

Blush: Once and Again. Like this very much too. I actually haven't found too many blushes I don't like, so I think maybe I'm done with buying blush...seems like I have a plethora of good shades already. :P If I do get any more shades it will just be the little mini sizes, just to try them or just to have the color on hand just in case.

Lips: Well, so far I like Siesta better than any of the other lip colors I've tried, but none of them show up on me...this one was VERY orange when I tried it on my arm yesterday, but this morning when I put it on my lips, it barely showed. It made my lips very light...almost like a primer might, but not much color. Spring Pink also does that...the other two Cherry Fizz and Cozy Night just don't show at all...they are so close to my natural color that they just don't show, and there's no shine to them. So, I'm a little undecided if I want to try any more colors...wish they had a little tiny sample of the lip colors too!

I take them into consideration, but I often find myself liking what other people don't, lol. That seems to work with a lot of things...not just makeup.

You know, you are probably right. I bet it is the old baby kabuki brush.

Everyone here so far has raved about the brushes so if we had our own review system they would be in the 90%+

OKay! I jumped ship and came on over to the dark side...err colorful side :P

I'm going to order something since I have discovered that wheat is the Evil One and apparently resides in everything in my cabinet and makes me itch. And the sheer volume of this thread leaves me no other choice.. ;)

SO Question 1 Where is the mascara cause I don't go without?? I used to have long thick pretty lashes that have wimped out on me since everything I have ever used is chemical loaded evil filled wheat junk. Who knew?? I hope better mascara and gluten free will rebuild the eyelashes or at least let them grow back instead of falling out everytime I blink.

Question 2 What are you all taking this stuff off with?? I'm now on a get rid of the chemicals and stuff and Clinique no longer fits that bill. So I need cleaner, toner, moisturizer, and lots of other defy the gods of aging things. I posted a topic about skin care and am checking into those links but what are you others using? Has anyone tried the cleaner on Em site?

Question 3 AFterglow vs Em?

Question 4 What color am I? I'm really wierd skin tone meaning I can't really identify it. I have greenish veins, tan easy but will burn in a flash, look good in dark reds and dark blues and dark pinks and dark browns some people say yellow but I think they are crazy. I cannot wear beige at all or white. Black looks good and I don't look washed out. pastels leave me blah looking. Before my hair darkend and went gray it was a yellow blonde with black eyebrows and black eyelashes that are white blonde on the end (I kid you not!) with hazel eyes that are more gold/brown with green as a background. I have no idea what eye colors to pick other than the basic browns and darks with a light beige looks "natural" . A lot of people think I have an olive tone but if I do it is very very very light. Help!! I've never done a lot of colors so I don't know what to pick. I couldn't even decide on samples. And I'm feeling the itch for my box and I haven't even ordered!!

Thanks

Stacie

Okay, so today's picks: Autumn Afternoon and rare silk eye colors (love both) and samba lessons as a liner.

Plum dust blush...very nice color, but very pigmented, lol. Didn't need much.

Foundation today was Warm-Buttered Tan. This is a MUCH better match than the Medium Beige that I wore yesterday. This matches my neck almost perfectly (so far, lol). I actually think this may be lighter than Medium Beige even though it's listed after it.

Oh, and I took pictures of my newly color coded stuff. I had to take some stuff out though so I could actually lay the containers flat. Also included pictures of the the mini train case I bought a few weeks ago...note the size in relation to the pen next to it, lol:

Hello Stacie...welcome to the colorful side!

As far as mascara...EM is supposed to be coming out with one, but they don't have one yet. Some people here use Ecco Bella (available at health food stores I think). I haven't found any locally yet, but must admit I haven't looked that hard. So I use a drugstore brand currently (Lash Blast), which is probably NOT at all good for us, lol.

As far as cleansers go, I take it off with Cetaphil lotion. A side note here: I stopped using Cetaphil for a long time because I didn't think it cleansed well...I'd use it to take off my BE makeup and I'd always have foundation left on my face. I haven't had that problem at all with EM...all traces come off with the Cetaphil! I DO follow that up with an acne scrub (as I did with BE, and still I'd have traces of foundation left on my face when I used my toner).

I haven't tried Afterglow, so can't give a comparison there....I used Bare Escentuals for a long time and I can say that this is every bit as good quality wise--maybe better--and it is much less expensive and much more natural.

Wow, color...I'm so bad at suggesting colors. You almost sound buff, beige or golden. The nice thing about this make up is that a lot of times you will fit into more than one category. So far, I have SIX categories that look good on me. My problem now is trying to decide which one is best, lol. I am technically SUPPOSED to be olive complexion...I have Italian and Hispanic blood...but also have Polish and Dutch, so I've got very fair skin. So far either the lightest or second lightest shades in the Olive, Buff, Beige, Golden, Cool and Warm categories look good on me. My face tends to be darker/redder than my neck, so I have to go pretty light on my foundation to look good.

Email a picture to everyday minerals and ask them to suggest a couple colors. Order a couple sample packets first before you buy a set. I have used BE and Jane Iredale mineral makeup--and LOVE the everyday minerals soooo much more. It seems less powdery, and the prices can't be beat.

You are too funny. Your makeup is very organized: very impressive!!

1. Like Donna said, EM doesn't have a mascara yet, but they are working on one. I use one from Avon because my Mom's avon lady knows she is an easy target so I always get loaded up on Avon crap.

2. I take off my eye makeup with baby oil because I have it in the house anyway for the baby. It works great and smells nice. I use Open Original Shared Link cleanser and moisturizer. i like the moisturizer because it is not too greasy but hydrates my "sahara dry" skin well. I saw a magazine ad for the brand once, and it said gluten-free right on there in big letters. Always makes me hapy to see that. I use Witch hazel as a toner - cheap, natural, and available in every drug store. I have used the Everyday Minerals Lavendar everyday everywear as a night cream, but i think it's too heavy for day wear. It has really made my skin happy.

3. I haven't tried Afterglow, but I think their prices are too high for me.

4. I wasn't all that adventurous with colors when I first started with EM either. But when my next order comes I will have a grand total of 40 eyeshadow colors. I havent found one yet that I don't like. The great thing about the minerals is that you can mix them until you get something that you like. For foundations - Like AmyB said, you can email EM a picture of you and they will recommend colors. All the colors I ordered in my first sample kit were way too light, but I found some great matches in my second. I have actually found a few that work great for my skin tone.

Today I am wearing

Fairly light foundation

chit chat blush

Floating feathers all over (love this color)

Smokey pink on the lid (a really versatile pink that goes with everything)

Silver spoon liner

OMGosh...what a stinking dilemma! I can't decide if I should get:

The Sephora Pink train case,

Pros: removable and infininately configurable dividers (can satisfy my most obsessive organizational tendencies, WHICH by the way only seems to apply to makeup, lol), very spacious, local (i.e., no waiting time, lol)

Cons: may be bigger than I need, expensive

OR

The pink train case that Paula got,

Pros: Very cute, removable drawers, space for brushes on the "doors", the right price, now available at Amazon, not to big

Cons: has to be shipped, might outgrow it sooner (maybe ALREADY outgrown and I don't have it yet, lol), not configurable

SEE, what a dilemma

Sorry folks...I'm needing frivolity in my life right now and you all are the recipients of my endless distractions

donna,

Is it cheaper at amazaon, mine was 59.99 and included shipping and tax and i got it in 4 days so not long at all. It comes from california so your wait time shouldnt be long. I havent put the brushes on the side cause the em brushes are too long lol. I just have them on the bottom drawer with my lipstick. On my top i have all my eyeshadows, in the comaprtmetn under the eye shadows i have my blushes and extra eyeshadows, then in the drawer is all my concelors and foundations. What i do so i dont have to color code my stuff is put it all upside down then i can see the colors lol.

Everyone what are you supposed to use the pink me up pink concelor for, i cant remember why i got it lmao

paula

dlp252 Apprentice

Yeah with the shipping and tax the amazon order would be about five cents or so more than the yazmo order (don't know but Yazmo might have to charge me tax too since I'm in Cal, so then amazon would be cheaper).

Okay, for the curious here links

Someone on this board recommended it to me like a year ago, and a I just I finally got around to ordering the free samples of foundation, blush and concealer last week. I really like it :)

So anyway, I just kind of went crazy, and ordered a foundation, three different concealers, two finishing powders, two blushes, lipgloss, blotting papers, and four eye colors  ....but....all that was only $50 (one foundation from Bare Minerals is $25, so....that's a pretty good deal :D)

Does anybody else use this stuff? It's really, really natural (less ingredients than Bare Minerals and no parabens). From their website:

I ordered mine a WEEK ago and paid for the express shipping!!! It's not here yet! : (

dlp252 Apprentice

Hi Lore!! Wow, you paid for express and it's not there yet!? Wow. Hoping you get it soon!!

QUICK!!

Give me ten eye colors that will produce a natural looking brownish look! I normally wear a dark brown in the crease, lighter brown ot do the outside corner and a light color to do the upper lid. Other than that I have no idea how to fill up 10 eyeshadows!!

Stacie

dlp252 Apprentice

Comfy (smokey brown)

Countryside

Exhale (medium brown)

Hot Chocolate (very light brown)

Scented Candles (not sure it's exactly brown though)

Um...that's it for me, lol.

Baby Bath

Exhale

Scented Candles

Bird House

Ginger Peach - it's peach, but people rave about it

Countryside

Sunset Voyage

Camomile - pretty goldish highlighter

That's 14. This is why we all have two or three eye shadow kits. One is not enough!

You might want to try ordering a couple colors that are different than what you normally wear. EM provides great opportunity to get adventurous with your eye shadow shades. :P

Oh, and to remove my eye make-up, I use coconut oil. I wash my face with Kiss My Face olive oil soap (the pure olive oil one). I use apple cider vinegar as toner, or Aubrey Organics Green Tea Toner. For mascara I use Ecco Bella.

Welcome Stacie :)

Everyone else pretty much answered your questions.

I am one that uses Ecco Bella Mascara, have for years and I love it. It has relatively few ingredients, although it does have parabens, but it doesn't irritate my eyes.

I use the Earth Science skin care line, they have a Eye Make-up Remover and then the Clarifying Face Wash has worked great for me for taking all the foundation and face color off.

I ditto what everyone said about Afterglow. I have not tried it but EM is so affordable and there are so many foundation shades to pick and choose from to find a perfect match, these were the big draws for me. Plus how can you beat a make-up line that has its own cult

I'm late in my delivery as I see you have already placed an order  , but I wanted to add for any other newcomers that the foundation selection guide can be very helpful in picking a shade.

Oh, and I took pictures of my newly color coded stuff. I had to take some stuff out though so I could actually lay the containers flat. Also included pictures of the the mini train case I bought a few weeks ago...note the size in relation to the pen next to it, lol:

I really like it. I don't know how it would work for EM, but it's a great case!

I don't know if that helps you at all. LOL!

And, I want to order more make up, but I'm really bummed because all the neutral colors (browns, dark pinks, grays, etc.) look TERRIBLE on me! LOL! They make me look like I have really bad allergies, LOL!;)

So I get stuck with all light colors.

@Rogol72, dermatitis herpetiformis occurs in a minority of celiac patients and if the OP hasn't developed it yet I doubt it will show up in the future. I think it unwise to use a scare tactic that probably won't materialize in the OP's experience. It has a good chance of backfiring and having the opposite effect.
    • Rogol72
Hi @trents, You're correct. The OP mentioned fatigue and vitamin deficiencies as the only symptoms at the time of diagnosis. Since the family are not taking him/her seriously and find them to be too fussy, I suggested showing them pictures of dermatitis herpetiformis as one of the consequences of not taking the gluten-free diet seriously ... would make life easier for him/her, and the family might begin to take his/her strict gluten-free diet more seriously. A picture says a thousand words and the shock factor of dermatitis herpetiformis blisters might have the desired effect. The OP did say ... "How do you deal with people close to you who just refuse to understand? Are there any resources anyone could recommend for families that are short and easy to read?".  @sillyyak52, It might also help mentioning to your family that Coeliac Disease is genetic and runs in families. Any one of them could develop it in the future if they have the HLA DQ 2.5 gene. Here's a Mayo Clinic study calling for screening of family members of Coeliacs ... https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-clinic-minute-celiac-disease-screening-for-family-members/ https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-clinic-study-calls-for-screening-of-family-members-of-celiac-disease-patients/ I got glutened a few months ago because I missed the may contains statement on a tub of red pesto. It was my own fault but it happens.

    • Hopeful1950
Oh yes.  I would never recommend taking it for an extended period of time.  When 70% of my body was covered in blistering itchy sores, an amazing doctor prescribed it diagnostically because I was unwilling to do a gluten challenge after already going strictly gluten-free in desperation after 10 years of suffering and being poo pooed by dermatologist after dermatologist. The fact that it stopped the itch and mostly cleared the rash after about 2 months was diagnostic for him.  I stopped it and have remained strictly gluten-free with very few flares since that time (over 10 years ago).  So the fact that it cleared the rash was diagnostic for me.
