Please Help Me Figure This Out......

SO I have been gluten-free for almost 4 months now and I am pretty sure that I am not consuming any gluten, however since my home is not gluten-free I sometimes think that I am getting CC'd by crumbs and residue left on items. But I have had NO symptoms and NO "D" so maybe I am just worried. I have gained some weight which shocks me as I am not eating all the junk that I used to, my doc said that it is b/c I am retaining nutrients...okay. I still have found out all the "junk" gluten-free foods and have been eating them and that is probably why I am gaining weight.

A few times I have gotten bloated, and this morning I felt sluggish. And I seem to be having diffiuclties with peanuts, everytime I eat something with PB I get a stomach ache, nothing severe...but I feel a bit bloated and sluggish. Maybe I cant tolerate Peanuts??? I made gluten-free PB cookies today, and I had a few more than I should have, but with us Celiacs we cant have alot so sometimes we indulge...at least I do!!!! Now I feel a bit bloated and tired, and my tummy is a bit extented and it is not usually like that. If I consume PB and get this reaction does it damage my villi??? So do I have to start the healing process over?? I know that there was not Gluten and no CC in the making of these cookies.

Also, I recently re-introduced Dairy and have had no problems, I do not drink milk like I did before but I have small amounts of dairy. But I have noticed that I am sometimes a bit constipated and I am thinking that it is b/c I am consuming dairy. My daughter is always constipated and the doc said that it could be b/c she consumes so much milk. Again, not bloating not "D" no nothing so I am assuming that dairy is not a problem.

And did anyone have trouble with their eye sight, I mean can it be affected by Celiac?? I get bad headaches and I have been noticing that I cant see clearly close up and my glasses are not helping anymore. I need to get my eyes checked but it costs so much now.

I would like to think that I am going about this correctly, I feel awesome otherwise and I dont ever want to feel like I used to. But sometimes I think that I could do better but I am still new to this and I will learn over time right??

Thanks for reading.

Jess

Or is it something else in the PB, assuming you're not buying a 1-ingred version?

. ... If I consume PB and get this reaction does it damage my villi???

I'm pretty sure it won't but maybe someone who knows more will chime in otherwise.

.. . . But sometimes I think that I could do better but I am still new to this and I will learn over time right??

Yes, Jess, you will. :)

In the meantime, do you get any symptoms while peanut-free for a few days?

If so, I must strongly suggest a food/symptom diary. Eliminating a few foods may do wonders.

Thank you. That’s all really helpful. I think it must have been something she ate as the poo colour has settled now.    Starting to see improvements in her tummy, slowly but surely!

I take all vitamins and supplements.  My cardiologist has me taking B12 5,000 once per weeks.  He gives me complete blood work every 6 months.  He's still building my D levels which is now in 60s.  He wants them in low 80s.  I take 5,000 IU's daily.  With this dosage I've gone from 42 to 65 over a period of about 5 years.  It builds very slowly.   As far as iron, I take a double dose of gentle iron with C on an empty stomach on alternate nights.  Yes, iron is a component for many of us with RLS, but mostly "brain iron" that in some people may require iron transfusions.

The positive DGP-IGA indicates the possibility of celiac disease. It is typical for someone who does have celiac disease to have some antibody tests be negative and others positive. This is not unique to celiac disease diagnosis. It is why doctors typically run many tests when seeking diagnosis of a suspected disease.  The DGP-IgA test is considered to have high sensitivity and specificity. In general, the DGP-IgA test has been reported to have a sensitivity ranging from 75% to 95% and a specificity ranging from 90% to 100%. Overall, the DGP tests, including DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG, exhibit a sensitivity of approximately 85-95% and a specificity of about 95-98%. The above paragraph is taken from this article which gives an overview of the various tests that can be run for celiac disease and their reliability: What symptoms are you experiencing?

      Check Costco's store brand.

Yes, get serum antibody testing done for celiac disease. You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). NCGS shares many of the same symptoms of celiac disease but does not damage the lining of the small bowel as does celiac disease. There is no test for it. A diagnosis for NCGS depends on first ruling out celiac disease. It is 10x more common than celiac disease. Some experts feel it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Eliminating gluten from your life is the antidote for both.
