Glutenfree Restaurant In Or Near Hanover, Pa?

Hi everybody,

this morning i went to Hanover to train with our gymnastics women and they told me, that we will meet next wednesday and eat out together after training. They thought the chinese restaurant "Best WOK" wouldn't be bad. So i told them, that i probably can't eat there (they all know my problem) and went and checked it out beforehand. The restaurant would have opened at 10.30 and i was already there at 10.20. It was still closed and there was no other customer there yet. One woman opened, when she saw me standing outside. I told her that we want to go to their restaurant next week with a group of approx. 8 people. And i also said, that i'm sick and i can't have wheat, rye, oat or barley, because of certain things in it and wanted to know, if they thicken their soups and sauces with one of these flours. She said, she can't tell me. I said, that if i don't know, and i will eat one of these things mentioned above, i will get very sick. Then she became very ignorant and said. Then don't eat anything, we don't want you to get sick. NICE!!! She also said a few seconds later, that i could bring my own food. Well, i don't travel an hour to Hanover, have 90 minutes of exhausting acrobatic, then DON'T eat anything and then drive one hour back home. Some people are really ignorant.

How would you do that? My mother-in-law suggested to bring a little something and maybe next week there is something else there. So i repeat what i said to this woman and maybe talk to the manager. And if they don't want me to eat there i can ask, if i can eat my own food then and mention, that this other woman already said that i could do so. And if they're still that ignorant i should mention, that they will lose a lot of customers, since i will report it to our support group and all the gluten people that will avoid their restaurant then sure would have brought some friends also.

I don't know what to do, some suggestions would be nice. Or maybe there are also some people from the Hanover area here, that could help me with some other restaurants?

Thanks very much in advance for you answers. I will also let you guys know, what happened next wednesday.

Lots of hugs, Stef

Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
