My friend and I are planning on visiting Scotland for about a week and a half this August and we are not sure we want to stay in hostels, but we don't have a huge budget either. Does anyone know of a bed/breakfast or cottage or a place to rent that we could get for a reasonable price that they would recommend?

Also, I can't find much about eating in Scotland. I would really like to go to edinburgh but we have no ideas about where we want to go so we are pretty open to suggestions. Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!

Scotland is an easy country to visit if you have Celiac. It's common there and you do not necessarily have to find official gluten-free restaurants with menu's to eat well. Every time I ordered a meal, I generally got steamed vegetables to go with it. They were good too. Lots of potatoes, more so than rice, and they are big on game and meat, chicken and fish. These can easily be made gluten-free, if you leave off the sauces and have them broiled or grilled, on a clean grill. Pubs may have gluten-free options and their food is generally cheaper. The Scots are far more celiac disease savvy than most Americans and they eat good, fresh foods.

I'm sure they have places with gluten-free menu's but I can't give you names offhand. Do a web search and you'll find listings. Don't sweat it....I found it easy to eat gluten-free in the UK and never got sick once. Have a marvelous time in Edinburgh...it's a fantastic city!
