Blood From Ear

Yesterday I woke up to find a 4" spot of blood on my pillow that had leaked out from my left inner ear. I stuck my finger in the entrance and found dried blood. I then took cotton tips and sprayed hydrogen peroxide on the tips to clean my ear out and there was quite a mess in there. Can someone explain to me what cause this type of symptom? On self evaluation I know I take an aspirin or two a day and when I walk I tend stuff the earphones in my ear because of the sound I get. I would very much appreciate advice on this symptom.

Regards, Sunny

See your doctor ASAP. This could mean your eardrum has burst, or something even more serious.

yep, when I was a kid, I had that happen. it was a burst ear drum, from an ear infection. but that should hurt, you say? the doc said the same thing, because the inside of my ear was very swollen, but it didn't hurt! it was just in bad shape.

doctor, tomorrow morning. from what I had learned, it's not quite ER worthy, but it's also not "oh, yes, I'll wait and take your appointment next week" worthy. you do not want to risk permanent hearing loss. (you don't turn those headphones up too loud, do you?)

Sunny26,

Why are you taking 1-2 aspirin a day? Arthritis? Or, are you taking it as a prophilatic to prevent stroke? Even taking one or two aspirin if you do it everyday for a long time might have more blood thinning effect than you might realize. I used to take one adult aspirin a day and noticed that I was bruising easy. Since I was taking it as a prophilactic I cut it down to 1/4 tablet or 83 mg. daily, the recommended dosage for that purpose. Have you had your platelet count done recently?

That happened to me too as a kid. It was a burst eardrum...oddly enough it did not hurt at all.

Great tips, Deb. Thanks.  What a pity that they no longer mark items as gluten-free. And it is even more of a shame that you must bring protein bars instead of the crew helping you with your needs. Are you planning on sailing Royal again?

I've not heard of any issues with Primal Kitchen, but it certainly would be worth not using the brand for a while to see if this helps. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. If you are super sensitive you may want to look for only Certified Gluten-Free Products, as @trents mentioned.

I'm not sure about low calorie, as puddings are typically a dessert, but we do have this category: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/gluten-free-recipes/gluten-free-dessert-recipes-pastries-cakes-cookies-etc/gluten-free-pudding-recipes/ This one might work if you cut back on the sugar:
