Does Any One Feel Nausea?

Yes, for me it is anyway. I was nauseated much of the time in the months before being diagnosed. Nausea is one of my symptoms when I accidentally eat gluten and I usually vomit a few times in the first few hours of the reaction.

If you're vomiting, make sure you're staying hydrated. I find drinking water is almost guaranteed to make me feel sicker when nauseated so I usually suck on ice cubes and sip on Pediatyle or even better, suck on frozen Pedialyte.

If you're nauseated even when you haven't accidentally consumed gluten I would look into the possibility of another food intolerance or condition in addition to Celiac.

I spent many years being nauseated (amongst other issues) and not realizing why - I thought it was stress. It's also one of my tell-tale signs now along with mouth ulcers when I've had a little cc issue.

Yes, nausea was my warning symptom to look for the nearest bathroom, quickly!

I was a little bit nauseous before I was diagnosed, but now that I've been gluten-free about 6 weeks, I've definitely noticed that I get really nauseous if there has been some cc. I start feeling really nauseous about 1.5 - 2 h after I eat something bad. it's also a warning sign to me too now that I should make sure a bathroom is nearby.

For many years, my main symptoms were persistant anemia and nausea. Once diagnosed and on the diet, the nausea lessened to the point that I only get nauseous now if glutened.

Extreme nausea. And my very first symptom. In fact, throwing up became daily habit. Sadly, when I was a college student I was accused of being bulimic by my roommates and worse by the campus doctor. I was a very broke college student and one who never went to the doctor, but I was so tired of getting sick all the time and finally made an appointment. I really had no other symptoms at that time to share with the doctor, so the doctor told me I must be bulimic. I was so discouraged by a doctor accusing me of being bulimic it took me years and years to go back to a doctor with all the other symptoms I began having. Nearly 20 years after that horrible experience with the Campus Doctor, I was diagnosed with Celiacs.

Really??? Quite a bad experience for you.....It is really disapointing how often doctors can be wrong and jump into conclusions. I understand they are humans too and they make mistakes but their damage can be really serious sometimes (of course we all say a big thanks for all these great doctors who offer their help and have saved lifes). Any way I hope now - that you are not ....bulimic......!!! -you feel more comfortable visiting a doctor....I never thought that there were people who were misdiagnosed for so many years....Amazing....

Since you had the same horrible feeling of nausea I would like to ask you something....Is there any chance that nausea exists after beeing gluten free??? Or it is strictly related to eating gluten...I know from experience that many other symptoms may keep on for weeks. Is that the case for nausea? Because if it appears only right after eating gluten, and when you stop eating gluten nausea stops too then I must be doing something wrong cause it's been over a week from my last accident with gluten and I am still sick 1-2 hours after eating. Maybe it's one of my other intolerances...

IM like 30 days gluten free but every couple weeks I seem to gte poisoned cause I satrt to get lazy about what I eat...but after my last experience I swore I would never eat gluten again.

So its been about a week since being poisoned and I feel healthy overall i can do my evening push up and exercises after a 14 hour shift. But in the morning its a given to feel nauseated! I also feel nasueasted a bit somtimes throughout the day. Peppermint helps a bit. I hope this feeling goes away the more i recover.

I have had issues with nausea, which seem to be related to gluten, but also blood sugar issues as well. Now, how it plays together I am not sure. However, I have had a horrible time in the past with nausea when I wait too long to eat and my blood sugar gets too low or if I eat too much carbs or sugar- this seems to be exacerbated by the gluten issue though.

I had nausea for more than twenty years and was always told it had to be stress... Then I found out that, besides the celiac disease, I had a dysfunction of the pancreas. I don't digest fat and carbohydrates because I don't seem to produce the enzymes. Now I'm taking pancreas enzymes before eating and the nausea has gone completely. You might check that as well because dysfunction of the pancreas seems to be related to celiac disease very often.

Hope you will recover soon! Nothing is worse than nausea.

When I posted (I think it was on march) I really had nausea all the time. Now, I don't have it any more!!!. My doctor said it was malabsorption (I also had bad body odour and I was losing weight despite my huge appetite and the huge amounts of food I was cosnuming).

Now all these are gone, I've put on some weight, I eat like a human and not like an elephant and nausea is gone!

But thank you for the info, I guess I have to keep it in mind. You never know what is next........

I am glad that your Nausea has finally gone away. Before I was diagnosed I jokingly called my nausea morning sickness, because the first thing I would have to do when I woke up was to throw up. I could not eat anything for several hours after I got up or it would just come back up. This was a daily thing. It got much worse when I was put on prescription Motrin for my arthritis. Then I felt sick most the time. When they finally diagnosed me with Celiac Disease the symptoms took about six months to clear up. But I still can not eat anything for several hours after I wake up. I think it weekend my stomach or something and that has never fully healed. And it has been 14 years now since I was diagnosed. Nausea i the morning is still one of the first symptoms I get if I have an accidental exposure to gluten. I might go a whole day not even knowing that I was exposed. But the next morning my body tells me that I have been and then other symptoms start and this can last up to a week.

EXACTLY....first thing in the morning....nausea and headache. And then I start the "oh not again!!!#@$%$%" thing..... :wacko:

You may check for hypoglycemia. I too get very sick and throw up after having gluteen but I also throw up if I have sugar without having protein.

Thank you so much for your follow up post. It gives me hope. My daughter is about 5 weeks gluten-free and still nauseated much of the time. :(

      Welcome to the forum, @Bernade! There are a couple of possibilities here what is causing your up and down experience since being diagnosed with celiac disease and beginning the gluten free journey. One is that you are not yet consistent in avoiding gluten. It is easy to avoid major sources of gluten such as bread and pasta but to arrive at a completely gluten free state on a consistent basis is much harder and involves a real learning curve. Gluten is found in some many food products that you would never expect to find it in. Just a couple of examples: soy sauce and canned tomato soup (most canned soups, actually). Gluten can be in medications, pills and supplements as a filler. And if you are still eating out at restaurants you are very likely getting "glutened" by cross contamination even when you have ordered foods that are naturally gluten free. Another is that you have other food intolerances in addition to gluten. This is very common in the celiac community and the most common culprits are dairy, oats, soy, eggs and corn. Some foods have proteins that resemble gluten closely enough so as to cause a celiac reaction for some celiacs.

      Dealing with Celiac for 6 months now at first I felt fine and thought it’s a bunch of nonsense it’s not going to make much difference if I have gluten or not I could deal with it how bad could it be??? I try now very very hard to not even smell gluten it is such a very very misunderstood issue.But honestly there are days I feel great then others feeling horrible like body aches headaches and nausea and I just don’t know why I do not eat it I read everything is it airborne can there be other things we just don’t know about yet is there a medication we need to take or should??? Anyone have the same issues???

      My daughter was diagnosed with autoimmune disease and has been gluten free for over 8 years it has been very challenging but it has been a wonderful experience and we together have learned a lot now we cook meals together go to places that are gluten friendly and honestly it’s is a lot easier than you think… everyone has there own journeys for sure never feel alone or down life has wonderful things that come along for more then we expect.💖
