Contiki Tour Through Great Britian

Hi everyone!

My friend and I are going on a trip this August for a few weeks to England, Scotland and Ireland and we want to start the trip out with a tour to get settled and comfortable. She brought some info over about a couple of different companies that do tours and we really like how the contiki tours sound. It said that the tour includes continental breakfasts every day (it is 10 days) and then four three course meals and the others are on our own. I am worried the the breakfasts are goign to be muffins and danishes. I called contiki and talked to someone last night and he said they are good about trying their best to meet different food allergy needs, but that I can't talk to the tour guide until the tour starts because they don't know who it will be yet. I need to talk to the guide when we get there he said (and they will have my allergy down in the file) and it depends how much that particular guide goes out of their way to help me. Has anyone done a contiki tour? Or any suggestions for this situation? I can take a bit of food with me for the start of the trip which would be this tour, but I wont' have a ton of room b/c we are just taking backpacks.

Help!

We need to book our tour within the next couple of days.

HI I Live in england and they are plenty of shops that sell gluten free things you can buy. and most places i have been to have gone out of they way to supply me with breakfast items. hope this helps . when it gets nearer your trip i will tell you the good places to shop. hope you enjoy your visit over here

All I can say is, it would make me very nervous to leave it all up to the guide when you get there, who gets to decide how much he's going to go out of his way to accommodate you.

In my mind, this is part of why we pay tour companies-- so that when we get to our destination, we don't have to stress about where we're going to sleep and what we're going to eat.

If it were me, I'd at least check out a couple other companies to see if you can get a better guarantee that there will be safe food provided for you.

Another option is to ask the tour operator to supply you with a list of the hotels and food establishments providing the food. You would then be able to contact them directly as to whether they can provide you a gluten free alternative.

Is there a web site for stores or restaurants in England that have gluten free products ?!?!? I'm going to the York area in July for 3 weeks - near Pickering. We will have access to a kitchen and I want to be able to eat well ! I doubt I could bring much with me with our regulations - I don't know what to bring anyway ! Any info would be appreciated - esp. opinions of products since some gluten free products are terrible !! :blink:

      Pathology results - coeliac positive?

      Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

      New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

      Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

      Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

      I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
