Dr Doesn't Understand Results

I had bloods done and when the results came back I was negative for the antibody test but positive for the gene test. My GP doesn't know what this means and told me he'd have to get back to me on it. I've been gluten free for some time and the allergy doc told me the antibody test gives a false negative if I'm not eating gluten.

Also my imediate family has had intestinal symptoms for some time so I'm worried they might have it, I've told them to go have testing since they are still eating gluten.

If you have been gluten-free for any length of time, the antibody test is going to be negative. The body does not produce them, except in response to gluten, and they don't stay in your system forever.

The gene test being positive means that you are susceptible to celiac disease. So you may or may not have it. To prove it would require a gluten challenge which you deliberately ingest gluten in quantity over time to see if causes damage. Unless you have a real requirement for a confirmed diagnosis, I wouldn't do it.

Testing your first degree relatives is a good idea.

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.

Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.

I hope you meant "pen pal" instead of "paypal".
