Weird Symptoms

Not sure if this is where I should post this but something strange happened to me tonight. I have been on the gluten free diet for about a week now. I have also been lactose intolerant and stayed away from milk products for about 10 years. Even though lactose intolerant I have found that I can eat small amounts from time to time and be fine.

For the last three days I have eaten the SAME thing ( I have done this because even though off gluten I still have had some symptoms from before so I am doing the " eat safe foods and introduce unsure of food slowly " to figure out what is bothering me ). Anyway, i have eaten the same thing for three days, which consists of apples, nectarines, rice crisps, brown rice, risotto, beets and chicken breasts. As I have been unable to find a BBQ sauce that I know is gluten free, I have been putting annies natural ranch dressing on my chicken breasts. This I know does contain milk products, however as I said before I used to be able to handle small amounts. So, last night I had this, and was fine. Today all day I have been having trouble with having to go to the washroom a lot and hot flashes, and then now tonight after having dinner I am experiencing hot flashes something terrible along with my chest feels tight.

Lol, keep in mind I am only 26 so pretty sure I am NOT going through menopause, lol ....

Could this honestly be from ingesting that small amount of the dressing? Could it be something else? Are these common symptoms of ingesting something you are intolerant too? Could my lactose intolerance be more touchy now that I am gluten free?

You probably are going through withdrawal symptoms. I have had many myself including hot flashes when I was too young to otherwise to have them be menopause. Actually you might be having yeast/candida/fungal withdrawal symptoms if you usually eat either more sugar or starch or both. I did get the hot flash like symptoms and blinding headaches or eye aches with that. Just going off the gluten however could be the culprit. Your system is used to having the opiates from the gluten and now it ain't getting any. Kind of like what a druggie goes through detoxing...It isn't fair, but somehow that is how it is.

Taking liver detox herbs helps--like dandelion root or milk thistle. Burdock root can also be a help. Don't take tinctures however since the alcohol is grain based and thus has gluten. Saunas might help too or bentonite mud packs on your hands and feet (make a paste with water and either 1 to 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or lemon juice and leave on at least 15 minutes before washing off--use old wash cloths since it might discolor the material).

Eating lots of green veggies and drinking a gluten free green drink (like chlorophyll from alfalfa mixed in plain water) really helps. Also taking freshly ground flax seed really helps pull out the toxins plus gives you much needed omega 3's. Use a clean coffee grinder and grind. You can add 1/4 tsp. apple pectin to the seeds before grinding to increase the potency of pulling out the toxins in the intestines. Its a very gentle way to detox plus helps with elimination. Mix in water and then chase with more water.

Marshmallow root caps will also help soothe and heal the lining of your gut faster.

WOW, thanks that is a lot of informtion!! I will have to try some of those for sure. But, one thing however, since I am more prone to D will any of these make that worse, or aggrivate it, or will I be fine?

Here is a list of companies who will clearly list all forms of gluten, as in "wheat, rye, barley and malt". It will help you find a good barbeque sauce. B)

Sweet Baby Ray's is gluten-free...and really good! I used it pre DX, and was thrilled to find out it was gluten-free.

      Yes stress can .make the pain worse. That being said it is taking years for my body to heal. I am not able to eat out as 98 % of restaurants do not know how to cook for celiacs.  I only eat out on special occasions. Any time I eat gluten I feel there is a tourch going through my digestive system specifically in the area you have mentioned.  Like where the deudenal is . I am very sensitive to cross contamination so any small amount of gluten makes me sick.

      @Ems10, celiac diagnosis normally involves two steps. The first one is serum antibody testing which you may have already have had done and are waiting on the results. The second step involves and endoscopy (aka, gastroscopy) with biopsy of the small bowel lining. This second step is typically ordered if one or more antibody tests were positive, is a confirmation of the serum antibody testing and is considered the gold standard diagnostic test for celiac disease. Now hear this, you should not be eating gluten free weeks or months in advance of either kind of testing. Prematurely going on a gluten free diet can and will sabotage the results of the endoscopy/biopsy should you get a referral to a GI doc who would want to do that. Eliminating gluten from the diet causes causes inflammation to subside which allows the small bowel ling to heal such that the damage they would be looking for is no longer there.

      Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

      It might make sense for you to find out if they've run a celiac disease test on you, and if not, consider planning for it.

      Thanks for your reply! I’m really not too sure, the doctor just took a few tubes of blood & that’s all I know 🥹
