Response From Cover Girl Regarding Their Make-up

So I decided to write to a few companies and see what products they have that I can use since I am currently using alot of the makeup: I asked Cover Girl to list any products they had that contained gluten or any that were gluten free.

Here is the response I got from Cover Girl:

Here at P&G we know Celiac is a serious disease, so we want to give you clear information regarding the use of our beauty care products. If wheat and/or gluten aren't directly added to a product by us, these ingredients won't be listed on our packages. Like many companies, we often purchase the scents for fragranced products from outside suppliers, and the components of these substances are proprietary information belonging to those companies. Therefore it's possible that a very small amount (generally parts per million) of gluten may be present. When available you could us fragrence free products (unscented means it doesn't smell like perfume, but may have a masking perfume to cover the smells from the ingredients.)

We sought advice from physicians; they told us it would be very unlikely a person with Celiac disease would have a reaction from a trace amount of gluten coming into contact with his skin or hair. This is because wheat, rye, barley and/or gluten generally cause symptoms when they're ingested. Since our beauty care products are designed to be used externally on the skin, their use shouldn't be an issue for someone with this disease.

Since gluten sensitivity can vary among people, it would be best if you consulted with your physician about the use of all types of consumable goods, if you haven't already. You might even consider using one of our fragrance free products that doesn't list gluten or wheat extracts on the label.

Thanks again for getting in touch with us. I hope this response has been helpful to you. For more information about Celiac, you may want to check out Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link

I thought this was a very unprofessional way to handle my questions, they were very unspecific and to be honest I really don't think they know what they're talking about. This particular comment makes me very mad

"This is because wheat, rye, barley and/or gluten generally cause symptoms when they're ingested. Since our beauty care products are designed to be used externally on the skin, their use shouldn't be an issue for someone with this"

Where are they getting their information from???

I guess I should respond to them and give them the facts!

Comments appreciated on what I should say to them

thanks

krista

Thanks for writing to them and posting the answer here.

I got an ever worse response from Juara (I posted it here) and I actually sent them a picture of my dh rash with an explanation of why it matters. Not surprisingly, I never heard back. I bet my email will become an office legend for them. :D

Maybe we can experiment with different approaches to this and see what gets the best response. Maybe you can try a polite, "then I will not buy your products anymore" and see what they say. You might also add that celiac or gluten sensitivity affects about 1/100 people, so they can expect to get the question more frequently.

Good luck! Keep up the good fight!

Lisa

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.

Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.

I wrote that by mistake and there is no where I can edit this.
