Dreams

I know a lot of people have posted about dreams where they are eating gluten.

For th past couple weeks it seems I started having theses dreams where i am eating pizza, toast, or whatever and doing it purposley knowing it is bad for me and then worrying that I will get sick. I know part of the reason may be because i am seeing a g.i doc next week and I am afraid he is going to want me to go back on gluten for the test, but I DONT WANT TO! And they cant make me!!. I've gone so long without being sick, I swear this is a record for me in 7 years: over a 1/2 a year without a cold or sinus infection!!!!

For anyone else who has had dreams like this, when did you start having them? I never had them when first going gluten-free, but now, a few months in, it seems to be every other night almost!

I have not had many gluten dreams in the 2 years since being gluten-free. However, I did go off sugar a week and a half ago (trying to boost my weight loss for a wedding). I have had dreams almost every night since about me binging on chocolate. I think maybe it's a psychological thing...at least for me. Maybe even a way of mourning.

Sorry you're going through that. Hope they hit the road soon! Good luck with the GI.

I started having them when I went through a big change - moved cities, started an internship, moved in with a roommate. I think I just wasn't sure of myself anymore and had dreams that I was messing up. Stress sounds like a likely culprit.

I can't blame you for going back on gluten. Plus, no one ever mentions this, but why have the test on your medical record? It only makes insurance more expensive. If you feel better, problem solved...

Good luck at the doc!

I don't remember a lot of my dreams generally. But I did have one gluten dream after about 4 months. It was pretty fun, involved Boris Badenoff and Natasha his cartoon accomplice. There is a thread around here about gluten dreams somewhere, pretty long one too. I think they made some of the dreams from that thread into "Tales from the Darkside" episodes on TV. Something to look forward too! :o:D

hahaha I'll have to look for that.

another thing, beside dreams, I havent had any cravingd for gluten what so ever, especially not bread, but it bothers me that lately I've been craving Grape Nuts- AHHH! And this was one of the products that bothered me big time....wierd

Try not to read too much into everything. You're probably craving Grape nuts because they're yummy. Don't bother trying that Nutty Flax cereal as a replacement though, IMO, they were disgusting.

I had a gluten dream last week and I usually don't have them anymore. When I've had them in the past, it's been I'm eating something and hten I realize it may be glutened and I freak out and wake up. This one I just flat out picked up a croissant and ate it, then figured I was screwed anyway and ate another one, then in the next 'scene' I was hanging out the car door on my belly on the seat and puking on the ground. Not pleasant. I woke up feeling very ill. I think that one was because my boyfriend was talking about how we want to try making croissants the day before though.

Interesting about the dreams ... I've had a few dreams about gluttenous foods and woke up thinking how strange

It's kind of nice to know this is a common thing :P

The only vegetable sources of B12 are some fermented bean products using a certain microbiotic culture. It is next to impossible to get adequate B12 from vegetable sources without supplementation. Same with D3. Some mushrooms can make D3 when exposed to UV light. Are you vegetarian or vegan? Do you do dairy and eggs or no animal products at all? Low B12 and D3 could definitely cause or contribute to many of the symptoms you have been experiencing but would not cause celiac disease. It is more likely the other way around, especially if you are a vegetarian eating no animal products. Many of your symptoms seem neurological in nature. The B vitamin complex and D3 is vital to neurological health. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9820561/

Russ, can you link an article supporting your assertion that small amounts of gliadin are detectable in human breast milk? Not doubting you but it would be nice to have the whole text for reference.

Got it. Thanks Scott. I'll set up an appointment with a GI after the holidays and get all the celiac disease screening done. Thanks to this amazing forum and to all who have answered my question, I now know what my next steps are.

Aah it sucks that there's no definitive way to confirm NCGS or celiac. I've found a GI clinic that is covered by my insurance and I'll contact them after the holidays to setup an appointment. I hope to get some sort of clarity with further tests.
