Carnival Cruise Excursions?

So my wife (she's the celiac) and I are going on a cruise to the carribean (Cayman Islands, Belize, Cozumel, Roatan) on Carnival. I know that she will be able the eat while on the boat but I am wondering what everyone does for food when on excursions. Will the ship provide food she can eat when we leave? Or will we need to pack lots of Laura bars? I heard some ports don't allow you to bring food off the boat.

Any experiences, advice, etc?

Thanks!!!

Jake

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have a question for you...What did you mean about the ship providing food while on board? Will they cook seperate items for her? I went on a Carnival Cruise last year (before I new I was gluten intollerant) and wondered about it if I get to go again in the future. Thanks!

Well I haven't gone on the cruise yet, so I don't know all the details. But Carnival tells me they will be able to provide gluten free meals for my wife the entire cruise. I'm don't know about the excursions though...

There's a form or phone number to inform Carnival ahead of time of any food issues, it's on their web page, call and fill it out. The first night in the formal dinning room, make sure that your servers know, usually 2 people, and they will be your servers the entire cruse, so yippee, only 2 people to worry about. They did all the leg work for dh, and were really good about making sure we knew what was safe. For the buffet, just start asking, and they will find out, or avoid the buffet, and use the sit down dining, where your servers know you. They even looked up the meringues at the high tea so the dh knew he could eat them. :)

I've not cruised with Carnival recently but have cruised often. If you check their website you should find a number where you can talk to someone about booking excursions and can ask them about food. I find the safest thing is to carry things such as Lara Bars with me, I just put them in the bottom of the bag I am carrying. On an upcoming cruise, I chose an excursion that includes a lunch provided by the cruiseline, I hope this is a very safe option. On another, I spoke with the people who book excursions and they contacted the vendor. The vendor has agreed to fix me a safe lunch. I will make the decision about eating when the time comes and either enjoy lunch or Lara Bars. Either way, I won't starve in a few hour period.

Thanks for all the input! We are looking forward to the cruise and I am reassured my wife will have no trouble eating!

Thank you. I already cut out dairy and eggs because I found out I was having a problem with them. To be honest I’m just getting worn out 😂

Hi Kitty, thank you for your e mail,  I have seen a nutritionist who seemed to be happy with the food diary I had been keeping and nothing was mentioned about extra vitamins, and I’m still using milk etc . The steroids seem to be working and everything is functioning as it should however,  the course of tablets finish at the end of February and I have an appointment with the consultant early April probably followed by another endoscopy, as far as I’m aware I have not been tested for vitamin B and will definitely discuss it with the doctor on my next visit.

It might be understandable to say "friends or family weeded me or you out of their lives". Some people are fearful of getting out of their comfortable known lives and having to make changes to accommodate another.   If they are too uncomfortable to walk a mile with me, I shake the dust off my feet and journey on.  They're just not ready to learn that lesson.  But you confidently keep going on your journey.  They can catch up later.

You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Someone recently recommended Superfoods for looking up recipes free of allergens or intolerances.  It's a web site but there's also an app.
