Celiac Or Not

So..

I am a student at the US merchant marine academy. The medical staff here, since finding that I had really low iron last year has determined that I might have celiac. They did a gene test, and I guess that I have the gene, but they say that still leads to no definite diagnosis. Also, Ive had a few endoscopies, and apparently, when looked at from far away, it looks like I have celiac, but then when biopsies are taken, they cant determine if I truly do have it.

In addition, Before when comsuming gluten I didnt seems to have any side effects.

I am soo confused. Is there a definite test for celiac. And, does anyone know about military wiavers for celiac, because thats another issue im having....

Any help would be awesome....Im soooo confused with this stuff. You would think after a year plust theu could come up with a definite yes or no answer.

Thanks a bunch!!!

;)

There is, unfortunately, no test which is 100% accurate. However, the gluten-free diet can be most telling, when various health problems go away. This can include things which you didn't even notice, or shrugged off as insignificant.

There are probably hundreds of symptoms, many if not all might be attributed to other things besides Celiac. But to date, it seems that intestinal damage is considered the "gold standard", even though many get false negatives. Not every Celiac is skinny and suffers from constant D. Some gain weight, some have C, some have neurological issues, some just get brain fog, or poor coordination, or any number of seemingly unrelated things.

Here's some information you may find useful (and astonishing)

They should run antibody tests as well. If those come up positive, then it is another piece to the puzzle for you. If you have the gene(s) and positive bloodwork, many docs would dx you. Cant speak for the govt.

Welcome to the forum, @BeeBarnard! I really can't imagine how either skin or skinless chicken thighs could not be gluten free unless one or the other were treated with some seasoning ingredient that was not gluten free. Do the product labels indicate any additional ingredients added to the meat? Is your daughter a super sensitive celiac? If not, the amount of gluten cross contamination found in seasonings is usually inconsequential.

HI, My daughter was recently diagnosed with Celiac and I would like to make her some chicken soup (she's got he flu). I found all gluten free ingredients but I'm having trouble with the chicken. I purchased Purdue bone-in chicken thighs from BJ's Wholesale Club. Purdue says that they are gluten free but the BJ's website says no. It seems like skin-on chicken is not, but skinless is. Does this seem accurate? Thank you

Hello there, it's been ages since I signed into this account. Wanted to see if there were other celiac patients that have gone through perimenopause/menopause and chose to take estrogen or wear an estrogen patch? I know all of our bodies are different but curious how it went or is going for you. Thanks so much.

I believe I've seen them at Costco still in the shells (in the frozen seafood area), which might be a safe way to go.
