Hello

I am looking for some help and information on what I should do, I have been strictly gluten free for six mths, and I feel as though I am actually getting worse. My symptoms vary from day to day but here is a few of them:

-Extreme Fatigue (Loss of Energy)

-Sick stomach alot of the time. (comparable to when I was being glutend)

-Horrible Breath

-Chronic Muscle and Joint pain(doc says it's degenerative disc disease in the beginning stages) I differ as the pain is everyday and is sometimes unbareable.

-Dizziness

-Brain Fog

-Horrible Memory(can't remeber the simpilest things)

-loss of libido

-infertility

-acne on face and chest(had for over 10 years now)

-diareha (off and on) depending on diet

-my tounge is thick and white

-chronic yeast infections

-heart palpitations, heart racing

My doctor seems to brush me off all the time, and I would like to start doing an elimination diet. What foods should I start with, I feel as though I need to detoxify my system.

I would like to do a candida treatment too, I have been on plenty of antibiotcs growing up, was sick all the time. I need some direction though where to start. I read somewhere on here that coconut oil is good for candida. Any suggestions??

I am willing to go back to the doctor is anyone thinks I should be tested for something else too.

I am completely gluten free, I have been retested for IgA and my levels are back to normal, so I know I am following the diet right.

I am avoiding dairy somewhat, but still eat chease and yoqurt without problems.

If anyone has good results with a candida diet or a good detoxifying diet with or without supplements please any advise would be appreciated.

I would say you for sure have a candida problem! I'm having a bad health day ..... but I'm sure others will post how to fix it. :)

Coconut oil, grapefruit seed extract, plus sugar-free, low carb diet are a start.

You might also check out the Lyme Disease thread on the Leaky Gut forum. Open Original Shared Link

I'd also look into heavy metal toxicity or mold exposure.

Good luck coming to the bottom of your health issues, sometimes it takes a while.

This thread has some good advice. Not everyone agrees on the exact same thing in this thread. But it can help you do your own research and go with what feels right for you.

And GET YOUR DOCTOR TO TEST YOUR THYROID.

TSH should be under 3 according to the most recent guidelines. Get a copy of your labs to make sure the lab isnt using the old ranges. Mine still does.

If he will not do it, then get them yourself. Thyroid tests are not expensive. healthcheckusa has a good price for a complete panel. Antibodies too:

TSH

Free T3

Free T4

And both antibodies

Thanks for the responses

I have a question:

Carla: I am in Canada, can my doctor check for Lyme disease through bloodwork??

CarlaB Enthusiast

Yes, he can, but you'll want him to use IGeneX. If you read the first page or two of the Lyme thread, you will see there is a political battle within the medical profession regarding Lyme testing, treatment, diagnosis, etc. IGeneX is out of CA. I had the test kit mailed to my house then had my doctor do the blood draw and send it in. All of us pay out of pocket whether we're in Canada or the US for this particular test.

Hidden gluten in your diet? Other food allergies?

could be this also?

Eosinophilic esophagitis

I second the comment about checking out lyme disease.

Addressing candida, other infections, parasites, toxicities could all be factors.

Additional food sensitivities is also certainly a possibility and an elimination diet could be helpful.

Soy is a real problem for me. What is currently making a big difference for me is eliminating most carbs. What I have learned is that the damage of celiac to the villi compromises our ability to make certain digestive enzymes. Most of us know about the problem with lactase, but there are other enzymes also made in the villi.

Testing showed that I was not breaking down carbs--hence lacked these enzymes--and taking supplements of these enzymes helped but not nearly enough. So my doctor put me on the SCD diet and I am really responding to it.

It has helped hugely with fatigue and brain fog.

Hello Mike M

I was wondering would Eosinophilic esophagitis of showed up when I had my endoscopy?

Unless EE has progressed to the point of being obvious, no, a specific biopsy needs to be done. This is another one of those "miss diagnosed" diseases that even adults can have. All the best, Mike

I would agree with the posters who have already mentioned looking into Lyme. There is no test which is 100% reliable for diagnosing Lyme but Igenex is one of the best labs available. Igenex Western Blots have a higher sensitivity than most labs doctors routinely use (these labs are known for false negatives).

Candida is typically secondary to other health issues which weaken the immune system as well as whenever toxicity is a factor.

I would look into Lyme and the issues that are commonly associated with it (candida being only one of them).

The symptoms you listed are all common symptoms in people with chronic illness due to toxicity from infection, heavy metals, mold, etc.

I experienced all of those symptoms and more early on in my illness.

Hi Rachel and thanks for the responce

Can anyone order this test your talking about, I went to the website and it looks like you need a physicians signature to order Is this right?

I don't think my family doc would be in to this, but maybe a natropath.

Thanks

If your stomach can handle it - try Zand Candida Quick Cleanse. It's a potent combination of herbs that surprisingly works well for me... especially considering how cheap you can get it for. If you have gastritis or your stomach is in a fragile state, do not take it as it is harsh on the stomach.. I also tried Threelac but it did not work for me and was expensive ($48.00 a box) BUT it may help you as it has helped a lot of people and is simple to take and not harsh on the stomach.. I take the Zand Candida Quick Cleanse regularly now and watch my sugar intake. Like you, I was on antibiotics as a kid for a long time and a super sugar nut... Also remember to cut out sugar from your diet entirely or at least try to. Watch the high sugar fruits as well...

For the tongue you can get NutriBiotic Grapefruit Seed Extract and put 5-9 or so drops on your tooth brush to thorougly brush the tongue. Remember to not directly apply the GSE to your tongue or it will burn like crazy... toothbrush only!!!

On this regiment I regularly get INTENSE sugar cravings... I sometimes find myself driving home with a gigantic milk shake from Baskin Robins but when I get a grip I usually drink a lot of tea or water to help get rid of the feeling of needing sugar in my system.

Hopefully that will help. Most doctors won't bother treating the Candida but I think it's a very serious problem especially when you have a condition like Celiac. Most doctors just don't get it in my opinion...

Hello and thanks ToddZ for the response. I will definalty try what you recommend, my stomach is still very sensitive right now,( only gluten free 6mths)even an advil will upset it. So the Candida clense you are referring to will have to wait. I have also heard alot about threelac, it is something to try.

Right now I have starting taking virgin coconut oil, which I have heard works really good for killing candida. I am only taking 1 tsp per day to see if I can handle it and not get sick, I heard if you take more you can have bad dying off effects from the candida.

I have also taking Probiotics in pill form, to see if that may help my stomach to heal as it is still very sensitive. Has anyone else had good results with oral Pill form Probioitics??

I am definalty going to go and get myself some of that NutriBiotic Grapefruit Seed Extract, it sounds like it would work. Has anyone else tried this for getting rid of that white thick tongue?

ToddZ Newbie

If you can't handle Advil the Zand Candida Cleanse is way worse so definitely hold off until you are completely healed and then some before taking it. Hopefully the coconut oil will help you.

As for probiotics, I think they work but you'll need to take them for a long time so they can get a foot hold and start doing their thing but I don't think they can hurt.

If candida is a major problem, if I were you (with what I know now), I'd get a test to see if your fecal sugar is high. That would mean you are not digesting carbs; instead of being broken down to monosaccharides and absorbed in the upper gut the double sugars are getting to the whole intestine--not absorbed. Basically then you become a wonderful food source for candida and many other bugs...

If this is the case, you have to eliminate those carbs that are not breaking down if you want to get a handle on the candida.

Also like Rachel said, the candida can be secondary to other things. So treat the candida but be sure you are covering the bases on other things too.

Have you tried sheep's milk and goat's milk cheeses? After my diagnosis I could not tolerate cow's milk for ~2 years until my villi healed, but for some reason I did not have issues with sheep milk or goat milk cheeses.  I also had temporary issues with chicken eggs, but could eat duck eggs.

This is not a test for celiac disease, but your total IgA levels. This test is usually done with other celiac disease blood tests to make sure the results are accurate. Did they do a tTg-IgA test as well? Were you eating lots of gluten in the 6-8 weeks leading up to your blood tests? This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.

Test results came back for everything that was tested now. Cholesterol is off the charts high. Not sure if that’s related to celiac, I have no idea how it could be so high. Also tested positive for H pylori  infection… is there a link to celiac and H pylori? Or am I just experiencing symptoms of the H pylori infection?

I’m reading that some sites list a high Immunoglobulin A result for my age above 300, another site says above 356, and other sites are saying above 400. I don’t know what to make of this result 🤷‍♂️

You got some bum steers my friend. I have little confidence that you can trust your test results as differentiating between NCGS and celiac disease. And I think you would be much more likely to have gotten that note you need if you had been diagnosed with celiac disease. But believe me, I understand the predicament you are in with regard to the risks of repeating the gluten challenge. We have heard this story many times on this forum. People experiment with the gluten free diet before getting an official diagnosis and then cannot tolerate the gluten challenge later on when they seek an official diagnosis.
