I'm not sure if this is gluten related, but it started a couple months after going gluten-free back in may...

I cut my running back a lot and have been focusing on more intense workouts rather than long distance. I find I have more energy and feel better. When I was eating gluten it seemed no matter what I did it was a battlle to control my wieght...not that I was overwieght, it was just hard to keep it steady no matter how little I ate, how much I ate or how far I ran. I'm eating twice as much now since being gluten-free and running much much less and my wieght stays very steady, right around 140 give or take 3-7 pounds depending on the time of month -blah-haha

I've been having some problems with bloating/water retention. I always thought that exercizing was suppose to allieviate these symptoms, especially when they are realted to pms. Well, it seems that when I take a day off from running, my symptoms are much better. This really makes me wonder b/c it's not like I am overworking myself, I admit I was when I was on gluten, but not now at all. Maybe i need to take more days off??? I run 6 days a week...7 if the weather is really nice, I alternate days of "hard" workouts and easy...

Does anyone know anything about excerize and how it is related to water retention/bloating? I heard that muscle retains more water than fat...

I have a tendency to overdo things. I can tell you that running 6-7 days per week is too much. You need rest days. I get antsy if I don't do anything at all 7 days a week, so I go for walks on rest days. You need to alternate muscle groups at the very least. Some trainers will tell you that the rest days are just as important. I hate when they tell me that, but it does make a difference.

As for water retention- I've had trouble with that too, so I'm not sure.

thanks. yeah, its just so hard to take days off b/c running makes me feel so good (mentally) and it is like morning coffee for me. I just have to make sure I am busy on my off days otherwise I'll go insane!!! I also do crunches and light wieghts after running....

I'll have to try just going for a walk a couple days a week instead maybe...I get antsy also, always need to be doing something..

      The only vegetable sources of B12 are some fermented bean products using a certain microbiotic culture. It is next to impossible to get adequate B12 from vegetable sources without supplementation. Same with D3. Some mushrooms can make D3 when exposed to UV light. Are you vegetarian or vegan? Do you do dairy and eggs or no animal products at all? Low B12 and D3 could definitely cause or contribute to many of the symptoms you have been experiencing but would not cause celiac disease. It is more likely the other way around, especially if you are a vegetarian eating no animal products. Many of your symptoms seem neurological in nature.       Russ, can you link an article supporting your assertion that small amounts of gliadin are detectable in human breast milk? Not doubting you but it would be nice to have the whole text for reference.

      Got it. Thanks Scott. I'll set up an appointment with a GI after the holidays and get all the celiac disease screening done. Thanks to this amazing forum and to all who have answered my question, I now know what my next steps are.

      Aah it sucks that there's no definitive way to confirm NCGS or celiac. I've found a GI clinic that is covered by my insurance and I'll contact them after the holidays to setup an appointment. I hope to get some sort of clarity with further tests.
