I have only posted on this board a few times, but read it almost every day for new ideas and for general information.

My son (7 1/2) has Celiac Disease and has been on a gluten free diet for 4 months. He continued to have stomach pain although it was better than prediagnosis / pre gluten-free diet and most of his other symptoms had disappeared (leg pain / weakness, brain fog). We tried him on a dairy free diet, tried cutting out soy, and were really at a loss as to why he was still having pain. The nurse we work with even said 'well, he may just be one of those people who has 'functional pain' and will have to live with it.' I didn't like that answer and did not accept it.

I happed to read a post on this forum that was responding to a parent who was new to eating gluten free. The post mentioned 'and don't use Rice Dream since it's not truly gluten free.'

I had been giving Rice Dream to my son for 2-3 months because we were keeping him off of soy milk (which hurt his stomach big time) and milk while his gut healed. I can't believe that the nutritionist or the nurse we worked with told me about how it does contain small amounts of gluten.

Anyway, I don't mean to ramble on, but really wanted to thank the people who post here and share the important information ... it does need to be said over and over so that families who are new to the diet can find this information out!

My son is finally feeling better after 1 1/2 years of daily stomach pain and wanting to 'be somebody else so he could get away from the pain.'

Thanks for all of the wonderful information ... keep it coming!!! :D

Margaret

Thank you for direction.  Eating out is a concern though we rarely do, but I'm prepared now.

Thank you for the update.  So interesting to know how things are changing, when I was diagnosed I had very similar blood results but still had to have the endoscopy.  Glad you know where you stand.  As your father has celiac disease you probably already know a lot about it, but do contact us if we can help further.

But isn't it easier to just take a D3 supplement? Is the D light somehow a superior source? Links?

So the way it should be used is to take it before possible gluten exposure, so right before a meal at a restaurant take 1-2 capsules. Unfortunately taking it 1 hour or more after an exposure is too late.
