Anybody know a good pediatric GI dr in Pennsylvania? We are in NE PA but can drive a few hours if we need to.

I don't know how far you are away from Wilmington, De, but we see Dr. Schaffer at AI Dupont and he is very good. He actually had to talk me into the diagnosis. My daughter had no obvious symptoms, except that she is type 1 diabetic. I don't know any doctors in PA, but since Philly and Wilmington are so close....

Sorry if this doesn't help.

There are sveral doctors at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. My daughter was dx'd by Dr. Barbara Haber. Dr Petar Mamula is also a good one and has celiac disease himslef and Dr. Ritu Verma has 2 children with celiac and runs a children's support group. Appointments can be made at 215-590-3630

Good Luck, KathyB

Current "gluten challenge" recommendations are the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) daily leading up to the day of the biopsy.

Thank you for your input!  I would really like to know if I have celiac disease because you need make sure you are not getting any cross contamination due to cancer concerns.  I guess I need to start with a knowledgeable Gastroenterologist. Thank you again!

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.
