I wonder if I should start taking a probiotic?? I've heard that they're good...for....ahem......loose stools. Wonder if it would help me? Do any of you guys have any experience with these sorts of supplements...and any others that you might be able to recommend would be GREAT!!!

(I just had my first bout of stomach flu post-dx and it has kicked my BUTT, I'm trying to get back to where I was!)

I would highly recommend taking Florajen. It states right on the bottle that it is gluten free. Probiotics work great to get the normal gut bacteria working properly. It has a very high cell count and the bacteria are supposed to be better ones than those found in other probiotics. It needs to stay refridgerated but if you are gone, the capsules can stay good from 2 weeks. Here is the website link Open Original Shared Link

Well, my Mom got me "Sustenex." I wasn't sure, but after checking it out on their site, they ARE gluten free!

Now, I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up or anything....but I was still on the "loose" side even after several weeks of a gluten-free diet....as SOON as I started taking this probiotic.....I mean the VERY NEXT DAY.....I had nearly normal stools! And it has continued!!! I've been taking it for about a week and I just keep getting better and better!!! I'm still gluten free...but I think that maybe the combo of the two just really gave me the boost I needed....especially after having that bad bout of stomach flu... I think it help get my "chi" realigned or something.... Whatever it did, I'm GRATEFUL! :D

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.

The biopsy for celiac disease is done of the small bowel lining and in conjunction with an "upper GI" scoping called an endoscopy. A colonoscopy scopes the lower end of the intestines and can't reach up high enough to get to the small bowel. The endoscopy goes through the mouth, through the stomach and into the duodenum, which is at the upper end of the intestinal track. So, while they are scoping the duodenum, they take biopsies of the mucosal lining of that area to send off for microscopic analysis by a lab. If the damage to the mucosa is substantial, the doc doing the scoping can often see it during the scoping.
