Did I Eat Any Gluten?

Ok, today i felt very bloated and had a really bad stomach ache, it started just before my evening meal and got worse after it. This is what i ate during the day...

1 Danone Actimel Yogurt Drink

2 eggs

A lot of fruit (bananas, apples, oranges, pineapples, blueberries)

1 tea

1 coffee

1 peperami <_<

1 tin of Heinz cream of tomato soup

My evening meal consisted of...

McCain's Rustic chips

Sweetcorn

Broccoli

Carrots

Fillet Steak

Many peperamis have wheat in them. Perhaps that was it?

On the Actimel website is says it's gluten free so it can't be that.

As for the chips and peperami, neither say they contain it but neither say they don't. Couldn't find anything on their websites. :(

I have seen on another forum that people have had some trouble with coffee, does anyone else drink it?

I was under the impression that only plain, and vanilla Dannon yogurts were gluten free. Dannon has been well known for it's gluten content.

What about the tomato soup?? Creamed soups often times have flour in them.

Dannon Yogurt! Dannon, themselves, say that only the plain yogurt is guaranteed by them to be gluten-free. I have had many reactions to Dannon yogurts when the ingredients list looked ok. They must have a cross-contamination problem in their packaging facility.

(with their "granola" yogurts) and their "thickeners".

Also did you mean "pepperoni" - if so, many DO have wheat. I don't eat pepperoni unless I can read the package ingredients.

Also I looked up Heinz soup on their website and could only find Cream of Tomato on the UK Global site! Supposedly it is only available in the UK? (Can't believe that, I SWEAR I've seen it here, but maybe only when I was in UK).

Anyway, the ingredients list IN THE UK is gluten-free - contains "Cornflour" as the thickener.

But if it was in the USA, then I would bet it has wheat flour in it.

So it had to be the Perperami (whatever that is?), or the Dannon - I would bet Dannon!

If in USA I would be it could be all of them.

It's Danone yogurt drink not Dannon, the logo looks very similar as well :huh:

Click on "Your questions answered" Scroll down to where it says "Is Actimel gluten free?". It says

"All Actimel products sold in the UK are gluten free and therefore suitable for coeliacs."

I am in the UK so the soup and yogurt drink should be ok.

The peperami is the dodgy one, don't think i'll eat another one.

      Trents, It's a good question. The experts I have spoken to have told me the distillation process does remove the offensive proteins. Again, I'm not the expert on that. I'm only reporting. I don't have any issue with distilled spirits that don't have any additives. That said, maybe there is something else at play here? Good question for the forum.

      I'm wondering if this is the same issue some celiacs have with distilled liquors. The complete gluten molecule is too large and heavy to to travel up with the vapor but if their are gluten fragments created by the heat, they may not be and the immune systems of some celiacs still recognize it as gluten. I have no scientific proof for this, just a thought because we have so many forum contributors who still react to these "gluten removed" products.

      Thanks, Scott and Trents. Scott, tastes vary of course. The metallic taste may just be me. As to the filtration efficacy, I can only add that the micron level to remove a smaller protein chain must be pretty tight. What about the impact of hydrolization on the R5 test? I've been told it presents a challenge. Trents, thanks for the clarification. I did not draw this distinction, but can. I honestly didn't perceive the nuance.  Appreciate the feedback from you both.

      I don’t think it matters much if you trust the supplier, I get them from a Welsh company maesyffin mushrooms but I think the guy there has retired from growing now and just resells eu imports so it’s probably the same mushrooms he uses to make the tinctures as the company you posted. It’d probably be cheaper to buy dried and make your own tincture.

      Thank you for your prompt reply. Have others experienced LUQ and L sided back pain when on gluten? Could gluten be irritating the pancreas to cause the slight rise in lipase?
