Worse Stomach Pain After Endoscopy

Syptoms

-Stomach pain all the time ( lower. abdomen. stomach area )

-burping

-constipation

-loose. thin stool

-shortness of breath sometimes

-freqent bathroom trips

-not full evacuated after going to washroom

-dizzynes mostly after eating

-pain worse after eating

after just doing a endoscopy I have had severe stomach pain with all the above syptoms just much worse.

I took last 4 days off work and went to hospital with severe stomach pain I could barley stand up. They checked my blood and did x-ray and said i was constipated and gave me laxitive.

They never told me if they were testing for celiac is it something they have to specifcally test for or something they will see when they check it out.

I have had pain for 6 months now, but it is so bad now it hurts everyday and i dont feel like eating anything anymore.

I have to wait 6 weeks for biopsy for results, Doctors will not help me now and i dont know what to do.

My syptoms started ranomly one day out of nowhere i had extreme stomach pain that night too.

I have done every test to check for other disease. barium enema. blood tests. stool tests. barium swallow, ultrasound, endosopy showing no ulcers

I tried gluten free diet for 3 weeks no results

Does anyone have any idea what this could be???

The pain after the endoscopoy is - at least for me was - because they fill your intestine with air in order to stretch it and take a good look or take a biopsy. I think it was the worse pain I've ever felt in my life.

Now are you sure you are 100% gluten free?? most of us couldn't do it 100& for several months. There are so many places gluten could be hiding you can't even imagine. search for hidden gluten (in this forum or use google or other search engines on the net) and you will get an idea. Just to let you know that there are even products that say they are gluten free on their package and they turn out not to be (I think you have in your country someting that is called Rice-chex or something like that and it is labeled as gluten free and it wasn't - check it out.)

and even if you are 100% gluten free (which is not very very possible for the reasons I explained you), 3 weeks is so little time. Ok it took me 3 weeks to feel better, but for others it took 2 days and for others 2 months or more.

and now if it is not celiac after all, then it could be candida, or some other parasite, or body ph imbalance, or IBS or or or...so many things. ask as much as you can, search the net, try to find a doctor that won't give you the "It's all in your head" answer and I am sure you will find your way out of this. Or it could be just lactose intolerance. Hey I forgot that. When you go gluten free you have to go dairy / casein free or you will not see any results. If you actuallly have celiac your intestine is too damaged to be able to digest lactose and lactose intolerance can cause the symptoms you are describing. Have you tried eliminating lactose???

Finally I strongly suggest you to keep a food diary and check out what are the reactions of your body when you eat something. Keep in mind that some reactions may show up after 7-42 hours.

Hope this was some help for you.

Ask anything you want.

I went lactose free when i went gluten free i was eating completey gluten free for 3 weeks no results.

Its now 4 days after endoscopy still severe stomach pain and burping

how long will it be like this for my stomach pain to go away

it was bad before but now its become irritated and much much worse.

.......after the endoscopy the pain for me was just some hours.....I really don' t know the answer to your question.

But 3 weeks is not a safe period to make conclusions about celiac. Have you checked your cosmetics, did you get rid of old wooden stuff in the kitchen, (wood hides gluten), did you avoid cross contamination etc??

any way I guess your endoscopy will show if you have celiac or not. I think that celiac is obvious cause your villy is totally destroyed if you are celiac. So they don't have to look for it. They just see it. But that is what I THINK....

I am sorry I don't think I have any other answer for you.

kenlove Rising Star

Its strange I never had pain with my endoscopy. Actually felt better after it. It was before I knew about celiac and after I felt like they straightened out the knot in my intestines.

Hope things are calming down in Athens now

take care

Yesterday was totally hell right in front of my house. about 500 stores in the centre of Athens are ruined...... They even burned the huge christmas tree... Today things are better.I think they are actually calming. Thank you ken...!

as for the endoscopy, I was in pain cuz the laxatives didn't work and my intestine was full (grossy....!) and they filled me with air (to get the biopsy) and wow that was painful. I don't know if our new friend's pain is because of that. And even if it was, I guess it should have gone away after 4 days.

kenlove Rising Star

Glad things are calming and hope it continues. Have had to photograph many of these type of things for newspapers, I hope never have to see it again.

Maybe it is the intestine's being full that caused the pain. I had not eaten anything other than jello for a few days prior to mine.

Could nto keep anything in me. Guess maybe thats it.

take care

Oh God! I wished I would not have read this posting not because of you saying anything bad. I am going to be going in on December 19th for an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy at the same time. And the thoughts of having both done pure scare me and having pain afterwards. Right before Christmas too! I sure hope I don't end up with pain like that. That will scare me to death!

Bad thing! I have always been scared of needles, have getting IV's because of rolling viens and am not a pain tolerant person!

At least I have some tylenol with codiene if I need it and will get my husband to ask them if I can take it when I get home.

That is scary to be having that kind of pain after a test. I hope you feel better soon but now I'm scared!

Sincerely,

Linda That Is Tired of Tums

Hmm! Maybe I should cancel those test and just start treating myself with the gluten free diet and not let them tamper with my intestines. I'm scared! :(

tiredof tums, I was scared too but honestly the endoscopy was a piece of cake. I not only felt nothing, I blinked my eyes and asked the nurse would the dr be in soon. She said, "honey, he's been and gone. It's all over!" I had no pain or adverse affects afterwards. My daughter had one at age 14 and had the same reaction; no reaction.

Last year my DH had a colonoscopy and was scared to death. He felt nothing and had no pain whatsoever. I wouldn't lie to you if it was really bad, I would say so. I think the poster has something else going on as I have never heard of anyone having that kind of reaction.

Just got my biopsy results and their negative I dont know what I can do from here still have severe stomach pain (lower stomach area around belly button) everyday along with intense burping and gas.

I have done barium enema. blood work. ultrasound. endoscopy. barium swallow.

I still dont have any idea what it is. I went to hospital twice last 5 days and they wont help me cause Ive had this problem for 6 months and they dont understand how much worse it is now.

My doctor said i was thinking about it to much and making it worse. Because im sure My brain is making stomach pain of course.

Anyone have any suggestion what I can do?.

ang1e0251 Contributor

Did you know that many people have negative test results with gluten sensitivity and celiac disease? If you're still having symptoms, then you may want to try an elimination diet to see how you feel. Cut out dairy and gluten and see how you feel. It's handy to keep a food/symptom journal to help you narrow down your reactions. It can help you with your doctors too. You alone know how you feel. Be your own dr. A GFDF diet cannot hurt you and you may be surprised at how well you could feel. You can't be any worse off than you are right now. Listen to what your body is telling you.

I hope you are feeling well soon. Keep us posted and ask any and all questions you wish.

If your pain has not started to abate a bit by now do demand to be seen by your doctor. You may be having an unusual reaction to something you had done and while it is unusual sometimes complications can arise from any procedure. If you have developed a fever or your pain is increasing rather than decreasing or any other new problems pop up do please get into your doctor or the ER in addition to starting the diet.

I hope things improve soon.

Linda,

Don't be scared. When I had my testing done, I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy 4 days apart. They were both a piece of cake. I felt nothing, woke up, went home and slept for a few hours. I had no pain whatsoever. I ate some bland food and watched TV and read. The next day I was good to go. The prep is the worst part, but even that wasn't as bad as I had heard. Don't worry. You'll be fine.

I seen my doctor they refuse to help me. The hosptial will not help me either.

im not seing my speciliast for 1 month.

I had my endoscopy an biopsy done wednesday now it is sunday and i feel worse. My bowels have have been going nuts from watery,to explosive,to constipation to skinny regular stool.gross topic to discuss but were all in the same boat here so i don't feel so embarrassed to share that info.but i have been nauseated ,pain under my ribs especially the left where i have been finding the pain since this winter and aching pain out through my back.I only had a upper gi endoscopy done not a full one which i wish he had done but he didn't feel it was necessary. Maybe it is my fybromyalgia making me extra sensitive but what if it isn't i guess i won't fully know until i see a doctor.

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

One positive blood test result means you likely have celiac disease, but to confirm it they may want to do an endoscopy to verify it with biopsies. Unless you have severe symptoms now, you likely should continue eating gluten daily until all testing is completed, and should eat tons of gluten daily in the 2 weeks before an endoscopy.

Be sure to look at the inactive ingredients, as it might still be naturally gluten-free.
