Acai Berry For Weight Loss

Happy Holly

Happy Holly Apprentice

I have been hearing about the Acai Berry for incredible health properties which include weight loss. Apparently this product is helpful for blood pressure, cholesterol, cleansing, detox, and weight loss.

I wrote to the company to ask if it was gluten free, and here was the response I recieved: "Our pills doesn't contains wheat or gluten."

I hate to stereotype, but I don't think I was chatting with the sharpest crayon in the box.

Does anyone else know if this product is gluten free? has anyone tried it?

I don't have much confidence in the response I received. ;)

Rather than "buy a product" why don't you check your local stores and see if you can find natural acai berries sold as fruit?

Happy Holly Apprentice

I wish I could do that. The berries, however, come from the Brazilian rain forest. In order to preserve their medicinal properties, they have to be freeze dried immediately. If they shipped them to the U.S. fresh, then the nutritional value would be lost.

Here is more information from Oprah: Open Original Shared Link

The link doesn't say that. It does say that you can often find it in health food stores.

Look around before you opt for a pill.

You can also get them in a frozen concentrate form. Great for smoothies.

Check out sambazon (dot) com - this is the brand we use at work (coffee/smoothie shop) and they're awesome. Sambazon also has pre-made smoothies and energy drinks, as well as acai sorbet. They also have the supplements, but I too, would opt for any of the drinks over a pill.

Just my $.02. :)

I believe they carry Sambazon at Whole Foods. I'm planning to try it.

This is an awesome web site. I just did a search of retailers in my area who sell acai berry products. There are several including my regular health food store, Kroger, and some smoothie shops as well.

Thanks so much for the input.

I'm interested to know how it works for you. For me, I'm really hoping the claimed weight loss qualities are true.

Keep me posted.

I use Acai Pure Gold - nothing else in it. 2 oz every morning. Plus Sams club or Costco sells freeze dried berries in a bag.

I think they have to take the weight loss off the label. With many of these new fruits that state weight loss. I understand it really doesn't do that ... I like it for its anti-aging properities.

https://i.postimg.cc/wjGp0qYy/20250129-194549.jpg My 4-year-old daughter started having pain in her right ear yesterday. We went to the ENT doctor today, and he prescribed an antibiotic and ear drops. The prescribed antibiotic is Augmentin syrup (amoxicillin) with a berry flavor (since my daughter has a very hard time taking oral medication, the doctor chose a flavored version). The package insert does not specify whether it contains gluten or not. However, it does mention that it contains maltodextrin. I read somewhere that maltodextrin generally does not contain gluten, but there is a (much lower) risk that it might. The doctor told us it is gluten-free. The pharmacist said the same but didn’t seem very confident. Given that my daughter has celiac disease and that the last time she accidentally consumed gluten, we ended up in the hospital with severe stomach pain, IV fluids, etc., we are afraid to give her the antibiotic, but she needs it.   Does anyone know if Augmentin contains gluten or not? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum, @Sandi20! By "specifically designed for celiac" do you mean gluten free or something more?

I had high positive iGg antibodies in a full panel celiac test but a negative celiac biopsy. I was eating gluten for 2 months before the biopsy. Doctors are saying to trial a strict gluten free diet for 2-3 months and see if I feel better. I'm just confused about the antibodies. I mean my body is producing them for some reason?? I can't imagine I won't feel better with the diet. Would the diagnosis be non-celiac gluten sensitivity then? I thought you didn't have antibodies with that?  Confused. Thanks for your input!

Thank you! Eating out/take out has been half of my meals for a while so you are correct that this will be my biggest challenge. This has been a journey and I appreciate your help!
