Hello all! I am from the n. eastern suburbs of Detroit and am looking for a support group in this area. I know the tricounty group has a meeting in Farmington, but it is quite a hike from here. Is there anyone here from this area? Would you be interested in a group near R.O./Troy Beaumont or Henry Ford Macomb? I am seeking peer support for my young child.

I have two Celiac daughters - 4 and almost 8 years old. We live near Clarkston but I go to the Troy Beaumont area for appt.s pretty regularly. Keep me posted if you find more. I also know one 1st grade little girl in Clarkston with Celiac.

Hello Clarkston! So nice to hear from you. I have been looking for a place where my 8 year old daughter can talk to and interact with other children with celiac. I did find the tccsg (tricounty celiac support group), but their meetings take place at a church at 11 Mile & Farmington Rd (I am near Lakeside mall.) Their web is tccsg.com. I am going to call the hospitals I mentioned and my pediatrician and Ped. GI to see if any one knows of any groups that meet closer to us or would help/support/give meeting space for a new group. Although I am hesitant to jump off and start from scratch, I will if I need to. I believe my daughter would benefit from this, and I know I would truly enjoy an outlet with face to face conversation with other parents--advice, experience. I am already interested in hearing your story--such as what doctors you see, how you handle school functions--because our children are the same age. I will do some legwork and post back later on this. One last note, I am considering starting a team for the celiac 5 mile walk/run in May. Check out the web address above to read about it. If you are interested, let me know. My husband and neihbor (neihbor, her daughter-in-law, and grandson have celiac also) said they would walk on the team if I start it.

I was all gung hoe to start a R.O.C.K. chapter closer to us, got all the paperwork then we had job loss. If you are interested, R.O.C.K. looks very simple to start!! MIMommy, PM me if you don't mind so we can exchange info - I did join Tri-County but never made it to a meeting despite my interest because of the drive (and since let the membership lapse).

Heads up - Kyle Dine is coming to Clarkston for a show in May. He has a C.D. out for kids that is really funny and all about food allergies. One song is about being gluten free (he unterstands that celiac is not an allergy - he faces food allergies and that is what got him started). There will be one show for kids up to grade 3 and one for 4-8. Pretty exciting!

Same age kids - can't beat that!!!! Hope to meet you and yours....

Yes no gluten in my diet. I get so sick that I have to go to the ER for fluids and medicine. I was diagnosed in 2017 but was told I probably have had it my whole life. (Went to Mayo in 2019 to confirm diagnoses and address all other autommune issues ect.) Also intolerance to sugar alcohols and chicory root. Try to eat clean and stay away from processes foods.

Dawn, are you diligent with the gluten free diet? When were you diagnosed with celiac disease?

I am on Otzela for my psoriasis an psoriasis arthritis.  They tried pretizon and I got sick on it. ( the doctor at urgent care). Need to see my doctor but he seems puzzled by me. My celiac disease is unresponsive and my numbers are off the chart.  ( 2nd testing went higher but Mayo said they might never go down because I have it so bad) Came back home considering going back to Mayo.

Welcome to the forum, @Dawn Meyers! Are you currently on immunosuppressant medications for your various autoimmune disorders?

Hi I have celiac disease and the dermatitis herpetiformis rash Also other autommune diseases.  I have had bad side effects to all the vaccines I have had and now my Doctor wants me to have the pneumonia vaccine.  I am concerned because of some of the bad side effects I have had in the past example Hep B after shot couldn't  move arm for several months.  Flu shot and COVID was sick right after shot. Told not to get anymore. My lung is inflamed and have a cough I can't seem to get rid of. Very concerned 😟.
