Here are some food ideals I bought today

Good health natural foods

crackers

Veggie Cracklebred- . 3 crackers (there about the size of a long graham cracker) is 1 pt.

Kinnikinnick

Sesame bagels - 7pts. ( kinda of high in points but good)

Montanas choc. chip cookies - 2 cookies = 2pts.

Guest michneva

OOOOOhhhhh boy...okay, I said I wanted accountability and so I have to say I really fudged my points yesterday!

It is no excuse...that I was visiting family for Easter weekend...my husband has to work this morning so we visited for two days. Thank God it was only two!

The first day I did really well. I had brought along my own snacks and my mom really worked with me in making a reasonable dinner.

We had seasoned grilled chicken breast/1 cup mashed potatoes/two cups broccoli/ two unsweetened apple sauce cups and diet coke. It was satisfying and filling!

I still had two pts. left by that night and we watched a movie and I had a cup of popcorn and a pudding cup.

THE NEXT DAY did not go as well...

My dad made a traditional holiday breakfast and they specifically had it that day to share it with my husband and I...It was an 11pt. breakfast!

AND I knew that we were going out for dinner with my husbands mom and sister that night...so I was going to try to save points...

by 1:30pm I was REALLY hungry and I was visiting a friend...I had brought snacks with me ...I had one cup popcorn, and a jello ...then at 2pm she was eating this barbacue chicken sandwhich and nuts and I had another jello and actually ate a small tomato!

Twice I ate a couple of nuts...then DINNER...

We went to Don Pablos Mexican Restaurant...I had printed out a gluten-free suggestion list...

I tried to eat small reasonable things, but secretly knew I was going to dip outside my points...I ordered One cup Classic Tortilla Soup, Side Salad, and Spoon Bread . There was a screw up with our order and I was getting soooo hungry and I ate like...five tortilla chips with salsa...and diet coke....I was totally full but a little disappointed ....

I think that the worst decision I made was the breakfast thing...I should have just eaten my cereal with milk and had the strawberries my mom bought...and then I could have had a more substantial thing at lunch time and thus would not have been so starved and frustrated entering dinner.

Well, today is a new day and I am home now and trying to focus on my food menu and not look at the huge basket of candy I made up for my sister -in-law who is visiting :-)

But as I said I am at home and I have easy access to my own gluten-free/WW stash of goodies....hopefully I will be strong :-)

Good Luck all!

I would say it is good to focus more on portions because then at least if you go a little overboard it is not like this wild binge....AND I would also say...when you wake up start over and don't look back!

-erica

HAPPY EASTER!!!!!

"When you wake up, start over, and don't look back"

Excellent advice! You had a high day, but that doesn't mean it has to hurt you. I have found that the occasional mess-up helped by preventing a plateau. Don't make a habit of it, but don't dwell on it or keep kicking yourself for it!

Guest michneva

Thanks DESSA

I really owe it to you admitting awhile back that the point is to focus on portions and excirsise more than points!

Things like holidays, visiting other people, other people visiting you, and eating out are kind of difficult ...I remember that the last time I did WW even though I was not gluten-free at the time this was my downfall as well.

When I started it was Thanksgiving and I was so proud of myself for doing so well on a holiday. I did not lose but I did not gain either...I did pretty well for the next few months and then I started going gluten-free and couldn't do both at the same time. THEN when I tried to combine both a year later my downfall came while my husband and I were away for the weekend for my birthday/our anniversery...I started out fudging points...kind of estimating...then I felt like it was hopelessly unorganized by that point and I felt sooo restricted and I just wanted to enjoy myself and not think about calculating diet points...and gave in ...when I got home I was so disappointed in myself I did not try again until now...

Any advice about the struggle of holidays, visitors, and eating out -my problem is balancing points for the day/being disciplined/organized etc.

-erica :(

"Any advice about the struggle of holidays, visitors, and eating out -my problem is balancing points for the day/being disciplined/organized etc."

The only advice I have to offer on this is to eat a large salad/fruit plate before the main course, and try using smaller plates/bowls. I used to have a day care, and had kiddy size dishes. I found it easier to control portion sizes by using the smaller dishes. Noshing on the 0 point veggie tray and the 1 pt fruit platter meant eating less fatty food at the main course. Also try little things like premeasuring a pat of butter for your potatoes, or a packet of sugar instead of a spoonful. Things like this stop me from overusing, which cuts calories in a somewhat painless way!

201!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! I've been exercising and being careful about what I eat, the gain is because it is a BAD arthritis day! All of my joints are swollen up huge and aching. This is the part about trying to lose weight that frustrates me the most!

I went to the Yahoo group, and one of the ladies has figured out points-values for some of the gluten-free flours. I figured it all up, and just one of my pancakes is around 10 points!! And that is without butter, syrup, or jam! I was eating one every day, and some days two! :o ! I will have to make smaller pancakes! :(

DESSA before you mourn the loss of enjoying pancakes see if you can buy Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Pancake Mix!!!

The pancakes are only like 1 pt. each and are soooo delicious!!!

Check your local supermarkets, like their organic sections and their cereal sections ...more and more stores are keeping some type of all natural section...

Check your local health food market, sometimes the independent ones if they do not have cirtain things will order them for you...although you may have to buy more then one...but I guess then just prepare to stock up...especially if you like them that often it is worth it! Each package lasts quite awhile ...well, it makes a feakin' lot of pancakes anyway!!!

Good luck !

Dessa...I keep mentioning this...you were the one who encouraged me about proper focus ...I KNOW it is difficult...

That must be frustrating and uncomfortable. :(

But listen...You know that you have been doing the right thing by your body. The point is to be healthy.

By your portions, exersising, and food choices you should be VERY proud of yourself!

Each week will vary, we all know that is life with our (fallen) human bodies ;) right?

You know how ready you are to whip this ...so ....Whip it! ( Whip it good! <singing> lol)

With everyone having a tough first week I am really hoping you all will be there for me when I have my tough weeks..although this week was not it for me, I do empathize, as we have stated before we have all been here before!

I ran out of time while getting ready for work yesterday and forgot to get back on to post my wiegh in....

I weighed in at 200lbs.

So that is -6lbs.

Thank you for your support...let's keep going ladies!!!

We all are doing this whole things living different lifestyles as well, like family situations, locations, different malfunctions of the body to deal with etc. So, hopefully as with being gluten-free...sometimes it is really tough and you want to throw in the towel...but being healthy is more important!

Please cheer up ladies and let's start fresh in this new day...

-6 pounds, Erica! That's fantastic!!

I can't use most ready-made mixes, they contain rice, which I am allergic to. I make three small pancakes each time, I just won't be able to eat them all. I am going to try freezing two of them for another time. I do it with regular pancakes for my family, then they just throw them in the microwave for instant breakfasts. I must control the portion sizes!

And yes, we will be here for you when you have bad weeks! That is what supporting each other is about!

Guest talsop

You go girl, 6lbs. that is great. Dessa I understand that swollen thing. Next week will be better for us. I am proud of both of you for at least trying to get healthy.

I'm singing with you erica, A WHIP IT, WHIP IT GOOD

Guest michneva

Yeah, I just noticed the rice allergy on the gluten-free WW e-mailings...

It is awesome that you are able to realistically look at what needs to be modified and make changes !

Oh, wait a sec....I just looked at the package ...the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Pancake Mix and it does not appear to be made with rice at all <brightening>

The ingredients are as follows:

potato starch

sorghum flour

tapioca flour

corn flour

turbinado sugar

baking powder

baking soda

sea salt

xanthan gum

serving size is 2 4" pancakes

servings per bag 15

Calories 140 mix 190 as prepared

Fat .5g

Dietary Fiber 2g

so would this be ok for you??

How is it going for you two with family/friend support???

-erica

plantime Contributor

Thanks Erica! I'm going to have to see if Fox Farms has some next week! Shame on me for assuming it had rice without reading the label first! I made my pancakes last night. Instead of making one big one, I made two small ones. I ate one and froze the other. I'm eating the frozen one now, after heating it in the microwave. It's tough and chewy. I will have to cut the recipe in half and make them fresh each time.

Mine are excellent. I am truly blessed in that area :)

plantime Contributor

My friends are divided. Some say that I am doing wonderful, and encourage and support me, another one asks me why I toture myself by not eating breads and limiting portions. My family supports me all the way. They like the thought of a healthier me! How is your support network?

:) It is good to hear about the positive support!

In my house it is my husband and I and HE has always been amazing in that area. He has no qualms about me buying what I need for a proper diet, and he is very understanding in arranging meals with me, and waiting for me to get all my info together if we are thinking of going out.

He has never put me down about my weight, and even now he does not make any comments relating to it being about the wieght. He just says I am cute and he is proud of me for really going for it and he is all for me being comfortable with myself and being how I told him I would be which is more healthy and less inhibited.

As I said when I visited my parents for Easter weekend my mom was amazingly supportive. She had a really hard time accepting the gluten-free thing. But it really worked out. I called her to tell her about the loss and she said she was so happy for me ...she did throw in there that she has been worried about me...but also added that she knows that I was struggling with losing weight before as I would squeeze it off but it would jump back on and I kept getting sick and she said and I quote, " and all because you were eating things that were making you sick..." Hmmm....so maybe she is getting it...

My best friend is very supportive and congratulated me...as she is more then up to date on my weight complaints and gluten-free life...

My co-workers...all women...are constantly swinging on and off diets...so they praise weightloss but sometimes mock food choices...two that I work with that I am closer to then the rest are just supportive, although they do not really understand gluten-free stuff they respect it.

Making a long story longer I am also finding it easier to do all of this with a calmer lifestyle...my husband and I used to be in youth work and even just my gluten-free diet alone suffered a lot as we were always on the go...

I am very content and thankful :D

-erica

Your concerns about Nando's cross-contamination practices are valid and important for the celiac community. It's disappointing that Nando's does not have stricter protocols for children's portions, especially given the risk of cross-contact with gluten-containing items like garlic bread. Cooking gluten-free items on shared surfaces, even if cleaned, is not safe for individuals with celiac disease, as even trace amounts of gluten can cause harm. While the adult butterfly chicken may be a safer option, the inconsistency in practices for children's meals is concerning. It's frustrating that Nando's headquarters did not take responsibility, but sharing your experience raises awareness and may encourage them to improve their protocols. Consider reaching out to celiac advocacy organizations to amplify your concerns and push for better standards. Always double-check with staff and emphasize the importance of avoiding cross-contamination when dining out.

I had this symptom when I was diagnosed. Are you sure that your diet is 100% gluten-free?  Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

Based on your results, it seems unlikely that you have celiac disease. A negative endoscopy and the absence of HLA-DQ2/DQ8 genes (the primary genetic markers for celiac) strongly suggest you do not have the condition. However, the elevated TTG-IgA (22) could indicate a temporary immune response or another issue, such as a different autoimmune disorder, intestinal infection, or even a lab anomaly. The presence of DQA1*05 alone is not diagnostic for celiac. Meeting with an allergist and GI specialist is a good next step to explore other potential causes for the high antibodies, such as non-celiac gluten sensitivity or other immune-related conditions. Keep a detailed food and symptom diary to help guide further testing and discussions with your doctors. Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.
    • Captain173
I had celiac panel done back in October, only ttg iga came back high  (22 with positive being over 3). Endoscopy done in January, it was  negative. Genetic test done after endoscopy, negative for both hla dq2 & dq8. Did show positive for dqa1*05.  Scheduled to meet with an allergist next week. Not scheduled to meet with GI specialist till after allergist. Confused if I have celiac or what caused high the antibodies originally if I do not.

Tums is an antacid.  Calcium (also vitamin D) need it acidic for absorption, so you're not really getting any calcium benefit.  Try DGL, it coats rather than counteracts acid. You need acid anyway to digest and get those vitamins. It's usually not too much acid that causes heartburn, it's not enough acid which causes food to rot and ferment in the stomach. Try DGL, everyone I've gotten to actually try it has had great relief. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IAJW0K
