Blood Test After 9 Mo gluten-free?

Hey everyone,

I have been gluten-free (about 97% of the time - with a few cheats) for the last 9 months. I have a family history of some gluten sensitivity/intolerance (bro gets hives from gluten, mom GI issues/fatigue) but no one has ever been tested for Celiacs. I decided to go gluten-free last year after my 3rd consecutive miscarriage in 6 months. That was after over a year of trying to get pregnant. I figured with my family histiry, and recurrent miscarriage, it was worth a try. What a difference it has made! I am less tired, stomach/gut feels great (most the time) and I have lost 30 pounds!

I just recently met with a fertility specialist Dr. and want to mention to her what a change gluten-free has meant for my body. However, I am wondering if my antibodies would come back positive since I have been gluten-free for so long??? I hadn't talked about it with my GP Dr. because I figured I am already doing all I can to control the celiacs. But if I am a higher risk pregnancy patient then I think that is important for my OB/GYN to know.

Any suggestions? Should I eat gluten before the blood test to help reach an accurate diagnosis? I hate to do that because we still trying to get pregnant!

Thanks for the advice and info!

I'm a little confused. Are you saying you already met with the specialist and mentioned celiac disease & the dr ordered the blood test? Or are you going to meet her and plan to mention celiac disease?

To show positive after being gluten-free for so long is unlikely and some dr's need 3 months worth of gluten eating before they will test. Won't the dr treat you as high risk anyway just because of your miscarriages?

Hello Dc91 and welcome to the forum! Could you first just add the lab ranges for us for your TTG IgA Antibodies as they vary?   Cristiana

Sorry I should have said these bloods were taken Friday morning, a week after the first initial bloods. So I hadn’t starved myself of gluten before these bloods were taken.

Hi all, I’m new here and completely new to celiac.  last week I went to my doctors for acid reflux issues, she also took bloods and sent them off. Last Thursday I got my TTG IgA Antibodies test come back as >100u/ML which the doctor has referred me to the celiac team at my local hospital. I have stopped eating gluten since Friday morning. (I’m guessing this will take weeks or months to be seen)   earlier this evening I got a new result through for Endomysial IgA antibody = Weak positive.    I’m guessing this gives me the difinitive answer I’ve been looking for? A positive is a positive. any help would be greatly appreciated.
