We are traveling to Atlantis in May and I wondered if anyone has had any experience attempting to eat gluten free there? I got us a suite with a full kitchen so I could cook for my son. I don't want to buy food in another country though. I have called the airline and they said I could carry on food in cooler, as long as the size meets carry on standards. Does anyone know if this is really true? No liquids,just pizza, chicken nuggets, (i.e. kid food)

If the airline told you that, I would think it's true. They would be the best source of information as to what you are allowed to carry on.

What I would be more concerned with is if they'll let the food into the Bahamas.

I hope I'm not too late -- We were just at Atlantis in March. We rented a condo at Harborside, so I cooked all of our meals. Wouldn't have been my idea of a vacation in the pre-celiac days - but that's the way we roll now :) I packed gluten-free spaghetti, spag sauce, brown rice, dehydrated mashed potatoes, cheese sticks, gluten-free crackers, wraps, smart food popcorn, small bags of cheetos, chicken rice soup. Bring salt or your favorite steak/chicken spices too. There is a 'larger' grocery store on West Bay Street. If you aren't renting a car, have the taxi driver stop there on the way to the resort from the airport. It will be worth the extra $$ since there isn't much for grocery near the resort. And yes, food is very expensive there. We bought meat, eggs, milk, hummus and fruit. Even though there were signs that no outside food or drink was allowed at the pool, no one ever bothered me about it. I brought one of those soft-side collapsable coolers with wheels for our lunches. Bahamas customs is only concerned with fruit/live stuff. Prepackaged, processed stuff was fine.

Also - I packed a collapsable collander for our pasta. The dishes were all stainless, not teflon, so we lucked out with that one. Don't forget laundry soap and dishwasher soap - I always do.

We ate out once at some overpriced brazillian restaurant - chimichuros? Got back and the phone call to make the reservation had cost me $25. Avoided the salad bar and didn't get sick from the meats. We got the kids a $10 ben & jerry's cup of ice cream every day. Ask for the allergy scoop.

I sent you a message, but forgot to include the following -

I meant to include in my message that I sent you earlier - I carry my own FOOD and DRINK when I travel by airlines and out of the country... I do use a large vera bradley duffle to carry dry goods such as chips, salsas, crackers, macaroni, special cookies, canned chicken/tuna , etc... putting them in checked baggage will let the bags "pop" open from the air pressure. If I can be of any help don't hesitate to message me back.

      I did a gluten challenge. I ate bread yesterday. I immediately felt horrid. Depressed, fearful, angry.  I also had the weirdest night terrors and "day terrors" (delusions). They were do awful, that I am still terrified. How do gluten impact your dreams?

      Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

      New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

      Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

      Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.
