Celiac Magazine?/contact For Exchange Student

Hello.

Someone from the German celiac forum was asking me whether there was something like a magazine for celiacs that she could place an ad in, as she is looking for a host family for her high school year in the US.

Thanks in advance.

This is not the first time it happens that one of my posts receives many views, but no one is posting a response.

I could understand if none of the people here knew where one could find information for exchange students, but I think answering my question about an official celiac magazine shouldn't be difficult. I did some research of my own, but I am pretty sure that due to the fact that I am not an official member of the US celiac disease organization, this might be something that I wouldn't have access to. I don't want to be rude or anything. I just feel bad trying to help people from the other forum, without even getting a simple "Yes", "No", or even "I don't know". :(

Thank you.

Lisa Mentor

I am sorry that your post was not responded too.

An internet search would find some magazines for the gluten free lifestyle, but I would think that advertising would be costly. Contacting the Celiac Sprue Association, Celiac Disease Foundation, the Gluten Intolerance Group and R.O.C.K.- Raising Our Celiac Kids. They have contact information on their websites. Most, if not all have newsletters they send out to their membership.

Anyone of these great organization would be happy to help you in any way that they can, member or not. Make that effort to contact them.

On the cover page of this Forum, the Calender mentions many events with many sponsors. Perhaps some of those listed could direct you the information that you are requesting.

I never saw the first one, sorry

Lisa's suggestions were so great.

Can't add any other ideas.

Did this person know where the student would live?

I can think of a contact for the East coast if that's were they are going.

I still think Lisa's advice is the best for over all info

Thank you so much for your help. :) I am going to "hand the information over" to the person. I'll also try to find out were the person is going to stay, so that I can find out, if your, Judyin Philly, East coast contact might be useful. Again, thank you so much for your help.

spelling might be wrong

but Alice Blast......of NFCA and Vanisa at the site might be good contacts

I'll try to find the link to the site

Thank you, Judyin Philly. I'm sure this information will be helpful if someone needs help again. :) The person that I was posting for already found someone in Colorado though.

Thanks again to all of you for your help!

For people with celiac disease hidden gluten in their diets is the main cause of elevated Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Antibodies (tTG-IgA), but there are other conditions, including cow's milk/casein intolerance, that can also cause this, and here is an article about the other possible causes (you may want to avoid oats):

Hello,  I have seen numerous doctors and they can't seem to pin point why my ttg iga is still mildly elevated at 16-20 even after being gluten free for over 10 years. I follow a very strict diet and don't eat out. All my other blood tests such as ema, DGP IGA / IGG, vitamin levels, CBC, and dexa scan were normal.

@Scott Adams Thank you so much for this thoughtful and encouraging reply 💛 It really helps me feel less alone navigating all of this! I’ve definitely been strict gluten-free, but I’ll admit — in the beginning, I honestly knew nothing about cross-contamination 😅 so it’s very possible my gut is still healing from that. I feel very abnormal because I am not a typical celiac or a typical Crohn's, so it makes me feel very stuck.

Hi still the same unfortunately, they had to cancel my colonoscopy due to my trapped nerve , I'm awaiting some kind of scan , it was the nurses who  told me to refuse and asked a docter , and I was told to cancel and go back to my consultant , I think because my sciatic nerve is compressed between my herniated discs , the prep was enough I could handle , but the colonoscopy itself , they advised me to seek something different ,due to the position I had to be in and the movements , so I will update Wen I know more , thankyou for asking appreciated 🤗
