Gluttened By Cold Cuts?

I am fairly new to gluten free. Yesterday I ate rolled up cold cuts with american cheese and about an hour later was very ill. The cold cuts were hatfield ham, wunderbar bologna and shady brook oven roasted turkey breast. Sick all evening and my stomach is not right this morning. I have looked up the cold cuts and I think that they are gluten free. Ever have this happen to you. Thanks. Myra

Did you buy those from the deli where they use the slicer for other kinds of meats and cheeses? If they weren't prepackaged in plastic, I would put that down to CC.

Yes they were from the deli. I have gotten cold cuts from the deli before and not had a problem. I thought maybe it was the kind of cold cuts. Who knows. Maybe the cc.

I can't comment on the deli-cut meats and cheeses, as I haven't bought any in years. But, I suspect I got slightly glutened one time from the packaged thick ham steak slices. The one's that come one to a package and are about the size of a dinner plate. There were no wheat ingredients listed however, so who knows. I never got any again though.

best regards, lm

If you are fairly new to the gluten-free diet are you still eating dairy? I would guess either cc or dairy, possibly both in this case.

I react slightly to ham also. I guessed it was the nitrates. I now buy nitrate free and gluten-free Hormel naturals.

Thank you for your input!  I would really like to know if I have celiac disease because you need make sure you are not getting any cross contamination due to cancer concerns.  I guess I need to start with a knowledgeable Gastroenterologist. Thank you again!

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.
