Salsarita's

I just need a place to vent where other people will actually know how I feel. There's a mexican place where I live called Salsarita's which is mexican and kind of a fast food. like subway, you order your food and they make it in fron of you. well i looked it up online to decide which foods i could safely have. The chips were safe and the queso. Some of the meats were but none of the beans. My husband and sister and her bpyofriend and i all decided to try it.

When i got up to place my order i asked the girl who was going to put mine together to please change her gloves for me because she had just handled a flour tortilla. She gave me a very dirty look like i was trying to play some kind of joke on her. After she changed her gloves, i apologized for the inconvenience ans said i had a wheat allergy ad was just being careful. She then told me she did not need to take her gloves off for getting chips for me. I told her again, i am sorry but i have to be careful of contamination and she rolled her eyes at me. It was very embarrassing for me. I was not trying to cause a big scene or anything i just didn't want wheat particles on my chips!

The food was very good and the others behind the counter looked apologetic but i was just hoping to hear some encouragement from others who understood. I have had waitresses and waiters go look up ingredients and all kinds of other things. I would think changing plastic gloves wouldn't be such a hardship.

oh well, that's life. I will be going back though because i am sure she was just having a bad day. and the queso was AWESOME!

I feel ya. Grats you enjoyed your food and didn't' get sick! I can't find good mexican here that doesn't make me sick. I have reverted to making my own..LOL.

I feel your pain. This last weekend my hubby and me went camping out of town. We had our bestfriend watch the house and the dog. <_< Bad idea. Last night I went to make myself peanut butter and jelly on gluten-free waffels (my favorite comfort food), all the jelly was gone.... OK......I know he had real bread in the house because I saw the wrapper in the trash...OK....I call him ask him if he used my peanut butter on his "normal" bread...OF COURSE he did...what was I thinking...*trash*, OK how about the butter? OF COURSE...*trash*. I must have thrown away a ton of now contaminated food. GRR. And the frustrating part besides not getting my pb & j....he (my bestfriend), is telling me I am overreacting and gets angry at me because I am asking him all of the stuff he used in my house and was offended that I threw them away!!!!!

*sigh* I feel ya.

I was informed yesterday that I may as well buy my own butter since my wife figures there's no way to keep crumbs out of the tub, what with the kids and all. She's probably right, but kids can be trained, hopefully. Adults, on the other hand, can be too self-serving to think about things like that-- really, if they're not inclined to be accomodating about other things, something like gluten which they barely understand, if at all, is barely going to make a dent.

I feel you there! I always had to ask when i lived with my parents. now that i am married my husband has his butter which he is allowed to gluten to his little hearts' content and i have my own nice clean safe butter. i did however convince him to get enough peanut butter out of the jar with the first swipe of the clean knife!

i know its not something most people have to think about. but like with people in a restaurant, if you say to not put tomatoes because you dont like them, then no big deal. but if you ask for no bread for actual medical reasons that's just so weird. doesn't seem like it should so different

Yes, but it does say it is wheat free. So, if it does contain gluten, it would must have come into contact with barley or rye somehow which isn't very likely. I think a lot of companies with products like this aren't willing to claim gluten free status because they don't want to got through the expense of testing and/or incur the liability risk if some customer has a reaction from a batch that slipped through and didn't meet the standard. Yet, in reality they are probably safe for most celiacs. Are you super sensitive?

I did see that one! The facility description is definitely promising, however, on the manufacturers website it says it isn't gluten free under "additional information" so it's hard to know if it can be trusted!  https://www.olivenation.com/soy-flour.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqm52IxCCZyEHR9L6auoR25t15xe_jt2qpYDAA7nCDIIImh00c1

Welcome to the forum, @Newhere19, I agree with @Beverage about getting a DNA test for Celiac genetic markers and trying the gluten free diet.   An endoscopy would be able to check for visible damage and allow biopsies to be taken to examine for microscopic damage.   Some people have camera endoscopy.  Would this be a possibility?   Sending encouragement.  You've found a tribe that understands.
