I Got Sick

I came home from school yesterday and was ready to break out my toaster to make some gluten-free waffles for dinner and my mom stopped me and said that I bought you a Greek salad from where they got there pizza from. Now i have orded from here before and know that I am okay with eating there salad. well, I was finishing the last couple of bites and what do i find at the bottom of my salad a SOGGY CRUTON. I totally flipped and I am really paying for it now. It really sucks.

But needless to say my mom called and spoke with the manager and they made me a new salad and delivered it to my house. Restaurants just really dont understand how careful they need to be. But what is somthing that I could do in this case? I def. dont want this to happen again and I have eaten there many of times before and had no problems.

But I am def. hesitant about eating the new salad that they made me. Anyone have any ideas, maybe I could print out that card and give it to them and maybe that will give them a better understanding. Because they know my family in this pizza parlor, because we order from the qite offen. I need some Help!! thanks :)

P.S. celiac3270 not sure where I was supposed to post this??? hope its in the right spot B)

As much as I'm willing to occasionally deal with eating in a restaurant, I will NEVER eat food someone else ordered for me from a restaurant. (I had to turn my boss down when he did this for me one night a bunch of us worked late. I know he didn't understand, but I'm not going to get sick over it.) If _I_ can't be there to explain the situation, and guage how well the person I talked to understands my request, I ain't eatin' it. ;-) But that's how I deal with the situation... Maybe I'm just a control freak. :-) :-P

Maybe I'm just a control freak.

I don't think we are control freaks, ok well maybe we are, but it's because we HAVE to be in order to stay safe. I feel the same way. If I didn't order it, I am not eating it!!

Yea I understand your position, but this was my mom and she is extremely carefull and explained everthing to them. I still live at home and she goes to all of my doctors appts. with me and has been there for me the entire time, so it is def. there fault. because when she ordered the food she explained to them and that is why i guess they made me a new salad and delivered it to my house. But she is very knowledable about the diease and understands my needs because I live at home. I just think that the resaurtant just slipped up, but they took responsibility and made me a new one.

I was just looking for an idea on how better educated the pizza parlor, just so that they are extra careful everytime! Thanks :D

Haha...Well, whether you posted it in the "dining/eating out section" or you initially posted it there, that's fine :D.

Thank you. I already cut out dairy and eggs because I found out I was having a problem with them. To be honest I’m just getting worn out 😂

Hi Kitty, thank you for your e mail,  I have seen a nutritionist who seemed to be happy with the food diary I had been keeping and nothing was mentioned about extra vitamins, and I’m still using milk etc . The steroids seem to be working and everything is functioning as it should however,  the course of tablets finish at the end of February and I have an appointment with the consultant early April probably followed by another endoscopy, as far as I’m aware I have not been tested for vitamin B and will definitely discuss it with the doctor on my next visit.

It might be understandable to say "friends or family weeded me or you out of their lives". Some people are fearful of getting out of their comfortable known lives and having to make changes to accommodate another.   If they are too uncomfortable to walk a mile with me, I shake the dust off my feet and journey on.  They're just not ready to learn that lesson.  But you confidently keep going on your journey.  They can catch up later.

You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Someone recently recommended Superfoods for looking up recipes free of allergens or intolerances.  It's a web site but there's also an app.
