Upon having a recent CT for severe back and abdominal pain for years, I have been told I need to see a bone doc as I have a lower back fusion, (with out surgery) and a severly infalmmed sacroiliac joint. I am afraid it is AS. What else could have fused my lower spine? What really upsets me is years ago the fusion was discovered in an exray, when I was complaining then about severe lower back pain! The PA at the time said, maybe you were born that way! I just excepted it and went on living in pain until it got so bad this year I had to look into it again. Anybody out there relate this to Gluten? I have been gluten-free for a year now and everything else is getting better. Help! Thanks.

      Hello, @StrongerThanCeliac, Not insane.  Misdirected, maybe. The digestive enzymes in saliva and the bacteria in the mouth probably digest all the gluten before then.   More likely, it takes that long for your histamine level to come down.  Histamine is released by mast cells as part of the reaction to gluten.  Vitamin C, B12, and Thiamine (Benfotiamine) are good antioxidants which can help lower the inflammation.   When I get glutened, I like having  hot tea with a couple of whole cloves in it.  Cloves contain Eugenol, an anti-inflammatory oil, that can calm the immune response.  You can chew up and swallow the cloves which will have some antibacterial action in your mouth, and be calming to the digestive tract.   Hope you feel better soon!

      Flavorings usually identified but don't know if there are laws that govern that. I bot lamb shanks that had rosemary flavor but did not see anything else that might be a grain so I ate it. I eat tons ground beef usually organic and grass fed from aldi. Not identified as gluten-free but hopefully it is. On the other hand I would only eat hot dogs which has several ingredients if identified gluten-free.

      All liquor that has been distilled are gluten-free because the liquor is captured from evaporation. Gluten is a heavy protein that will not evaporate make it safe for all celiac’s. cheers!

      Ground meats can contain flavorings and fillers. You must look for the gluten-free symbol on the packaging. I use Jennie-O brands which are marked gluten-free.

      I take Clonidine for blood pressure control.  It is the only one that did not debiltate me.  It also helps with my ADD.  Doctors always turned me down when I requested Ritalin (I am an adult) so it turned out for the best that I reacted badly to all the different BP meds they tried. Originally Clonidine was developed for ADHD adolescents that could not tolerate Ritalin.
