Dating And Food Allergies - Argh

Hi, I was widowed young, 1 1/2 years ago, at 37. I'm now 38 and just as I was finding out that I have genes for celiac, as well as soy and dairy intolerance -- I met a nice fellow here in Atlanta, where I live. He spent most of a Braves game recently combing the stadium for some sort of gluten-free food for me. :D

We had a GREAT experience at Rathbun's in Inman Park -- they have two desserts that are gluten- and soy-free, and one of those is dairy-free, too -- the mango sorbet. They were so NICE about it, the wait staff and the chefs; very happy to oblige.

But other than that and Outback Steakhouse, geez, eating out is so hard. Is there anyone else from Atlanta who can recommend flexible, understanding restaurants here?

I've heard that Ruth'sChris Steakhouse is accommodating to those on a gluten free diet

When we go eat out, I tend to stick to Mexican Restaurants, or Outback. Ritter's in Marietta is also aware of celiac, and recently hosted a luncheon that was strictly gluten free. (for the members of one of the local celiac support groups). I live in Marietta, so I rarely venture into the city... but let's see... oh, I went to a play at the Shakespeare Tavern (dinner theater) and I contacted the chef ahead of time, and she said that one of her friends is celiac, and there were several things on the menu that are gluten-free.

the following are gluten-free

Barbequed Shrimp

Shrimp Remoulade and Coctail (Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce is uses)

Onion soup (without croutons)

Ahi Tuna (without sauce)

All Salads (without croutons)

All Dressings (except Ranch)

All entrees (except for Stuffed Chicken Breast) (Steaks are only seasoned with salt, pepper and butter)

All potatoes (except Au Gratin and French Fries which are fried in same oil as Onion Rings)

All vegetables (except Creamed and Au Gratin)

Berries with Cream

Wow, thank you SO much. I appreciate the tips and will try these places! I should make a list of the stuff at Rathbun's that is gluten-free, too. Will call them and get them to add to what I know and post it.

You are very welcome! I am seriously enjoying the challenge of finding more restaurants that are celiac friendly... I missed being able to just stop at any restaurant and eat! But I don't miss being sick!

I think that fancier places would be more accommodating and careful about making food gluten free. Some of the fancier places I have been have already had celiacs come to their resturants, so they were already familiar with the precations. At restaurants, I just say "I am celiac and no bread or gluten can touch my food or I will get very sick". I ask for my food to be plain, unless the sauce is gluten-free. I think the more we speak up and familiarize people about celiac, the better eating out will be!

I used to be terrified of eating out, but I've recently given it a try and I've only had good experiences! B)

What about having a date where you cook together? Something that requires teamwork, like making sushi, or gluten-free lasagna? My friends and I, in college, had a great time - socially - making sushi together before eating it.

      I did a gluten challenge. I ate bread yesterday. I immediately felt horrid. Depressed, fearful, angry.  I also had the weirdest night terrors and "day terrors" (delusions). They were do awful, that I am still terrified. How do gluten impact your dreams?

      Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

      New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

      Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

      Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.
