Movie Theater Popcorn

I found an old thread from 2005 about this, but wonder what the info is now.

Is movie theater popcorn gluten free? I called my local theater to ask and the very young man told me, "If it was gluten free, we would charge you more for it." I didn't laugh at him till I hung up the phone....seriously? Charge MORE?! I didn't get the feeling he really knew what he was talking about.

Any help out there?

Thanks!

You might find you get a better answer by going in early or on a slow day. What I did at my local theater was go in to a matinee when the theater was very slow, I got there early and asked to see the stuff they use to pop the corn. They had no problem grabbing the tub and showing it to me. It looked okay so I risked it, without the fake butter stuff, and it was fine.

I emailed cinemark recently and was told their popcorn and butter was gluten free. Like within the last 6 months. I can't speak for other theaters though, and you could always check to see if it's still current. I'll look for my email.

I did find my email, and it was from January. I have emailed them again to verify that the information is still correct. I'll post if I hear anything.

They gave me all the ingredients when I went there with my family. So Metrolux theaters are gluten free popcorn, popping oil (coconut & corn), and even the liquid butter type topping. :o) No one could tell me it was gluten free, but with the list of ingredients and suppliers I was able to figure it out! Thanks all! And Eclipse was a great movie!

Just in case anyone else is looking, I received a reply from Cinemark today and the popcorn, cooking oil and buttery topping are all gluten free.

This question comes up from time to time, and if my memory is correct, there has never been a verified case of gluten in either the popcorn itself or the fake-butter topping.

Yes,  Lisinopril gave me an inguinal hernia from the persistant cough. Amlodipine doubled urine output and dry eyes so I could not wear contacts, another had me walking bent over like a ninety year old and one knocked out control of my quadracepts so knees would give out.  None lowered my blood pressure. Average BP  132/67 for Oct 21 - 26.  Lowest was 100/59. High 157/62.

I was undiagnosed for quite a few years. I now have neuropathy in my hands and feet. Be watchful of something like this and definitely see a neurologist if having symptoms like numbness in your extremities.
