Dunkin' Donuts Coffee...

Hi everyone! I am fairly new to this and still in the ongoing testing stage, but have been gluten free for a week now with some pretty big changes (long history of health issues - never thought they could be Celiac!).

Anyway, I have read that Dunkin' Donuts coffee is okay...I love their coffee and as a busy mom, buying a cup of DD coffee on the go is one of those small pleasures I look forward to! I have read past posts here that say their coffee is okay, but I also am learning that cross contamination is really common. It's hard to imagine that if I go into a Dunkin' Donuts (or even do drive thru), that I can be sure the server hasn't been handling flour and things like that.

What are your experiences with this? Thanks in advance!

I personally didnt have any issues with their coffee and around where i live they are very accomadating with washing their hands prior if you tell them you have an "allergy." on the website they do say all of their drinks are gluten free so i can even enjoy my latte.

I agree, I had the same worries about anything coming from Dunkin' Donuts considering how much flour has to be flying around that place! However, I've not had any problems with their coffee. I switched to DD from Starbucks a while ago because of cost. But haven't had any cc problems. Of course each one could be different, depending on the manager and who's working there. But since they make the claim on their website I feel like at least they're trying. And like I said, so far no problems.

I am someone who would choose to make my coffe at home and just bring it with me.

I want to address a more important issue. If you are still in the testing process for celiac you really should not be gluten free yet. You need to be on gluten for the tests to have any chance of being correct. If you have finished with blood and biopsy then go ahead and do a trial.

No problems with coffee from Dunkin Donuts or any other coffee shop.

Thanks guys! I had a small (black) coffee from DD today and it seemed fine - phew! I don't particularly like to drink it black but right now dairy doesn't agree with me

:(

Maybe I'll get used to carrying around a gluten free non dairy creamer :)

has anyone tried dunkin donuts pumpkin lattes? everything looks ok to me but was curious to see if anyone has tried it yet.

i looked up ingredients on their site and this is what they have:

Milk, Brewed Espresso Coffee, Pumpkin Spice Syrup [skim Milk, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Brown Sugar, Caramel Color, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Salt].

they also have a table that lists all the big allergens and marks it if it's in the product.

"Natural and artificial flavors" are always questionable. Remember, those can be barley-derived and since barley's not a Big 8 allergen it doesn't have to be disclosed. Contact the company.

I m questioning if my cold brew with cream and sugar is indeed gluten free. The last few times I have had it I get itchy and gassy. Any thoughts?

Caramel color can also be from gluten.

Ask Dunkin "Corporate" how that cold brew is made. It is very possible that they are using a coffee extract, processed on cross-contaminated equipment. (Folger's instant says this up front; Nestle uses dedicated equipment and says they can't have that problem.) It is also possible, if you are very sensitive and they have a lot of flour dust in the store, that you are being affected by flour dust either in the store, or that has settled out into the brew.

Bottom line, if it hurts you? "Don't do that." and it won't hurt you. 7-11 makes better coffee anyway.(G)

My uncle was a chef, and cold brew is the easiest thing to do at home and then you know it is gluten-free. The left over coffee in a glass jar with either cream or one of those gluten-free lactose free creamers by Delight and chill it overnight. Also that same Delight creamer can be frozen with no preparation, in a paper cup for gluten-free lactose free ice cream it was very very good, not just sort of good, and I used the caramel. I will make it again there is nothing to this. Also a 2 ingredient brownie with no grains at all, small jar of Nutella heated and added to 4 eggs that are whipped for 10 minutes, really whip those whole eggs, fold in Nutella and bake for 35 minutes in parchment lined baking dish at 350 again easy and a please make it a second time recipe!  Stay in your wonderful plan folks!

1/1/2 slices of bread is likely not enough. Current guidelines for the gluten challenge are recommending 10g of gluten daily which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. Physicians in practice are often working from outdated info.

Please list the ingredients of the granola. It may have nothing to do with gluten but an allergy or sensitivity to some ingredient.

I have alerted surgeons that they need to check with manufacturers and labs to vet the anesthesia. My hands surgeon did that and I was ok so reconstruction surgeon called her to use same anesthesia. They certainly wouldn't have taken just my word.

A pleasure.   It could just be the oats (even pure ones can cause problems for some coeliacs, as I mentioned) but don't be discouraged if that is the issue, as for most of us that passes.  Very odd, really, as before going on a gluten free diet, they had no effect on  me at all!
