Anxiety

I'm starting to think my symptoms could be anxiety:

dizziness, chest pain, feeling like I can't breath, migraines, upset stomach, shakiness.

So far every doctor has not been able to find anything physically wrong with me...I know I have IBS but I wonder if the rest of my symptoms are anxiety disorder....

Just food for thought. I'll ask my dr. more about it tomorrow....

Does anyone else have this? My real question is, can it last a long time? I don't have attacks, per say, more like feeling crappy all of the time for days at a time, then getting better, then relapsing.

Any thoughts??? Any help would be appreciated if you have experience with this.

Thanks, Jennifer

I know your exact feeling. When I get glutened now..or even when I am under stress I get feeling like I can't breathe due to anxiety and I get nausea then and an overall crappy feeling. When you feel like you can't breathe you may want to try to take a few deep breaths into a paper bag...that helps me calm down at least a little bit.

I get the same way when I've been "glutened"...

I've found that deep breathing helps as well as drinking water (I don't know why the water helps but it does)

I'm actually thinking I could have general anxiety disorder. I have almost ALL of the symptoms.....

I'm so confused! I will ask my dr. on Tuesday. I have my endoscopy tomorrow-

The reason water may help is because alot of the time people do not drink the amount of water they should every day. This deprives the body of water and with your body amost 3/4 made of water it needs quite a bit. Anyways lack of water is a main cause for anxiety..just an fyi

I'm not saying anxiety is not caused by anything else because it very well may be something else.

I know this feeling too. I get it when I've been glutened by accident and I freak out and feel anxiety. Dr. said I feel like I can't breath because esophagus gets swelled up because of all the acids you create that are in stomach and go up the esophagus. Try to calm yourself down when this happens and breath deeply (get a bag if you have to). You might be making yourself hyperventilate too. I get this way to when I have to go get my annual PAP at Gyno's office. My husband gets anxiety attacks when we go to Walmart on a busy day and he feels like he can't breath but once we leave he's ok. You'll probably feel better after you've had your endoscopy cause you'll know what's going on with you or at least you'll be close to knowing.

I believe I am going through the same "anxiety" issues. For several months now I have stomach pain/nausea (which I did not have before being diagnosed with celiac disease). I've taken several acid meds to no avail. I've had many tests and there doesn't seem to be any reason for my stomach problems. At first, my Dr. hinted at taking anxiety meds, but I pooh-poohed that notion. I also have extreme fatigue and shakiness. I do know that the diagnosis of celiac disease has sent me in a tailspin and I think about it 24/7. I think stress has taken its toll on me (physically and emotionally).

I used to get treated for anxiety, general and acute, but then I found out I was hypoglycemic and stopped eating sugar and most of it went away. I went on a low carb diet and found I felt a lot better that way. Then as I was more stable, I started adding carbs and sugars back in until I started having problems again. For me it's relative and I'm not always tolerant of the same amount of sugar/carbs but I am pretty good now at spotting the signs in me and knowing when to cut back. I have had such bad anxiety episodes I have had to pull over from driving before, when the road turned into complete tunnel vision. I even got to the point where I couldn't leave the house or hold a job. I took tranquilizers nightly for two years and myriad antidepressants. But it was cutting sugar that made all the difference. Then cutting gluten on top of that.

Something to think about.

I've already been tested for hypoglycemia, diabetes, etc. I've had sugar, no sugar, etc. and nothing seems to change my symptoms. We'll see what my test reveals today..I'm about to leave for my endoscopy.

Talk to you later,

Jennifer

These are the episodes I experienced in the past. I agree with the sugar thing and the water thing. I make sure that everyday I drink 4 water bottles 20 oz. ones and I pretty much avoid sugars unless I need a fix really bad. I also avoid all caffeine cause I feel that it makes matter worse by making you nervous which contributes to the anxiety.

skbird Contributor

Yeah, caffeine can wreck me. I'm at the point now where I can drink a small pot of green tea in the morning but if I drink more than that or have it later in the day I will get in trouble - cold sweat, shaking, anxiety. No fun!

Jennifer - I'm sorry to hear that even cutting sugar didn't help. I really hope you find some good info at your appointment today. I am also going to my doctor today and am hoping to find something useful in seeing him as well. It's frustrating trying to find answers for something that is affecting you on a daily basis and not being able to lead to anything concrete.

My thoughts are with you.

Take care

Stephanie

Has anyone thought that the gluten could attribute to having anxiety? For various reasons I've gone back on gluten, since they're telling me its all IBS, acid reflux/heart burn and stress related. I'm now having bouts of attacks of anxiety and its really starting to concern me. Pondering going gluten-free not to mention the diarrhea's back and abdominal discomfort. Ahh the wonders of it all!

New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
