Going Out To Eat For The First Time Since Going gluten-free (Biaggi's)

So I did my research, found out that Biaggi's (awesome italian restaurant... it's a chain so some of you are familiar I hope!) has a gluten free menu. Even the bread that they first bring out to the table has a gluten-free version.

I called ahead and made a reservation and told the girl I will be needing a gluten-free menu. Then I stopped. I felt almost shy about it. I realized that I sort of feel awkward demanding that they be extra careful since I have not had a "formal" diagnosis. I know this is all in my head and I should realize that since I want to take this seriously, I should relay that attitude when asking that they do, as well.

Anyway, wish me luck! Has anyone been to Biaggi's and ordered gluten free? Their gluten-free menu looks awesome online! I hope it's a good experience!

I have, and it was great. I didn't call in advance, so they didn't have any bread on hand for me, which was a bummer, but I learned my lesson on that! Next time I am in an area that has one, I definitely will call so that they will have some bread for me. The waiter knew what gluten was, and when he brought the bread basket for my husband, he carefully placed it on the other side of the table and smiled at me and said " Don't eat that, it isn't the gluten free stuff" I had pizza, and it was excellent. I definitely would go again. I hope your experience is as good as mine was!

We've done Biaggis in Champaign and Naperville (both in Illinois). Every time we've gone we've been very happy with the food, the service and especilly the way they make Celiacs feel normal. One of our top three gluten-free places -- the other two are Luciano's and Ina's.

Hi Scott, i think You misunderstand me i am confirmed seronegative celiac but i still feel shity. I do not eat GLUTEN or Lactose. I am on gluten diet for 1year now and i am still dropping weight and muscle and still feel shitty. I have done every possible test regarding abdomen... Does somebody anybody have similar or same situation....? Thank You

Given that she had a weak positive tTg-IgA blood test for celiac disease, and she gets symptom relief from a gluten-free diet, she could be in a pre-celiac disease stage, and might develop full blown celiac disease (villi damage) if she continues to eat gluten. At this point, even though her biopsy is negative, she may want to stay gluten-free. As @trents mentioned, she likely has NCGS.

Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS. Have you had symptom improvement on a gluten-free diet? If so, you may be in the NCGS area. Also, are you eating oats, and have you tried cutting out dairy/casein?

Probably NCGS then and there is also the possibility of an H. Pylori infection.

Scott thank you. Finally found the oreos and they are a winner.
