Medications That Are Not Gluten Free

Over the past few weeks I have been having headaches and feeling nausea and I went to my doctor. Even though the symptoms were nothing to do with my coelaic disease (more my arthritis!!), the Doctor gave me STEMETIL to ease my nausea.

Please be aware that Stemetil and also it's generic brand contains WHEAT STARCH. The wheat starch is not listed on the medication packet and the Pharmacist had to ring the company to confirm its ingredients.

As Stemetil is a rather common medication for people with an upset tummy or nausea please be aware of this problem. It also shows that we have to question every medication that we are given. I now have to go back to my doctor (and pay more money!!) to get a prescription for another type of medication for nausea.

I know sennosides (otherwise known as senna, a herbal laxative) gave me a celiac reaction.

No other tests. This was from about 10 years ago, I noticed it when checking through my all bloods to look for patterns.  I will go back to my doctor...

Were there any other tests besides the EMA run for celiac disease? If not, you should request them. At minimum, "total IGA" and "tTG-IGA" should be ordered. A more complete celiac panel would also include the DGP-IGA, DGP-IGG and TTG-IGG. And very importantly, you should not have been reducing gluten consumption in the weeks/months leading up to the testing blood draw.

I'm looking into it. I have several quite low vitamin results which I believe may be from malabsorption. B12, ferritin, folate, vit d all very low. Re-occuring mouth issues, gut issues.

Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease or are you looking into it?

Thank you. There is no reference range mentioned unfortunately.
